New York Photo Festival (Nueva York, USA) •Dalí International Photography Festival (Yunnan, China) •The Solo Project (Basel, Suiza) •The Israel Museum (Jerusalén, Israel) •FotoEspaña (Madrid, España) dcc@lacupulamerida.org

KIMIKO YOSHIDA True Lights Internationally renowned Japanese artist Kimiko Yoshida presents her evocative imagery based on elaborate self-portraits. Exhibited for the first time in Merida, Yucatan, her work calls for pertinent questions as to the role of women in modern society, and is strongly driven by feelings of transformation. Kimiko Yoshida often says “Art is above all the experience of transformation. Transformation is the ultimate value of the work. To me, Art has become a space of shifting metarmophosis. My self-portraits are the place and the formula of the mutation”. Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1963. After graduating from the Tokyo College of Photography, in 1995 she attended the École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles, France. She now lives and works in Paris, France, and Venice, Italy. In this new series, exclusively made for the opening of Centro Cultural la Cúpula in December 2016, Yoshida interacts with her own printed selfportraits with acrylics as if the canvas were Rorschach’s paper tests. In erasing the visible, silence takes into words, the abstract speaking through it. In a contemporary battle, the abstract figures, colorful paint over her selfportraits, make those invisible and indistinguishable, bringing some intimate light into each hidden image. True Lights, Yoshida’s Rorschach series represents the fight against darkness and silence. Kimiko Yoshida exhibits worldwide in museums, private galleries and international art fairs, such as: Paramount Pictures Studios (Los Angeles, USA) Maison de la Photographie (Paris, France) Venice in a Bottle (Venise, Italy) Katara Arts Center (Doha, Qatar) Grand Palais (Paris, France) Festival a-part (Les Baux-de-Provence, France) New York Photo Festival (New York, USA) Dalí International Photography Festival (Yunnan, China) • The Solo Project (Basel, Switzerland) • The Israel Museum (Jerusalem, Israel) • FotoEspaña (Madrid, Spain) • • • • • • • •
