Christmas has to be my favourite time of year for theatre, and we’ve been enjoying Scottish Ballet’s sparkling Snow Queen, soon to be followed by our very own pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This year’s panto is bigger and better than ever on the majestic Festival Theatre stage and the fun keeps flowing all the way through January so book yourself a New Year’s treat. For the wee ones, Barrowland Ballet bring The Gift to The Studio, the second delight in our trio of early years festive commissions with Eden Court and Aberdeen Performing Arts. We’re also delighted to be coproducing The Unexpected Gift with Barrowland Ballet, a specially adapted show for audiences with complex needs.

This highly interactive and inclusive dance-theatre performance is made especially for and with children with complex needs such as autism ages 6+. Playfulness within the work creates space for live response between the audience and performers, with its adaptable approach allowing the individuality of each child to be celebrated.

The Unexpected Gift celebrates the art of play and curiosity, taking ordinary objects and making them extraordinary and magical. Bursting with energy, acrobatic dance, textures, sounds and colour to create a multi-sensory wonderland from the left-over boxes, ribbons and wrapping.

The Unexpected Gift is designed for a small audience to be able to accommodate and engage young people who experience the most barriers to access.

The Unexpected Gift is co-produced by Capital Theatres and Barrowland Ballet. The second piece on the bill is devised by award-winning choreographer, Mthuthuzeli November. Nina: By Whatever Means, is inspired by the artistry and activism of Nina Simone. November weaves a skilful picture of Simone’s turbulent and influential life to take us on an emotional and empowering journey.

We’re delighted to welcome back our friends from Edinburgh’s dementia inclusive Forget Me Notes choir. Join the audience, either in the theatre or online, as we stream these dementia friendly concerts across Scotland for everyone to enjoy. Celebrating life’s stories through a series of songs picked and performed by people with lived experience of dementia, these special afternoons are an opportunity to spread the joy and kinship found through music.

Captioning Captioning is a bit like subtitles on TV. Captions are shown on two raised display units either side of the stage. The text is in large print and delivered at the same time as the words are spoken or sung. Please mention if you wish to use this service when booking your tickets.

BSL – Sign Language Interpreted A BSL Interpreter will stand on one side of the stage and interpret all spoken or sung speech. Please mention if you wish to use this service when booking your tickets.

Audio Description Audio Description is a form of audio-visual translation. Through a headset (collect on arrival) a describer will tell you where the characters are on stage, what they are wearing, how they gesture and what the set looks like. Please mention if you wish to use this service when booking your tickets.

Touch Tours Touch Tours of the set, costumes and props are usually available from one hour before the Audio Described show. Touch Tour tickets are free and should be requested in advance. Touch Tours are exclusively for those using the audio description service and their companions.

Discounts

Student/Young Scot Standby Tickets from £10 on the day from midday to half an hour before curtain. Stalls and upper only and subject to availability. Valid photo ID required. Phone 0131 529 6000 on the day for an indication of availabilty.

Babes in Arms On selected family shows, babies under 12 months will be admitted to sit on their parent/carer’s lap. A limited number of free Babes-in-Arms tickets are available per performance – please book at the time of purchase. All babies require a ticket for entry. Babies do not qualify as group members for group discounts.

Concessions Available for full-time students, senior citizens (65+), unwaged (with proof), people with disabilities, Young Scot cardholders, children.

Ticket prices are subject to change with demand, book early for the best seats and prices. All Concessions are advertised on show pages where available. Exclusions may apply to all discounts and are subject to availability and not available on all shows. Discounts can be withdrawn at any time. Discounts apply to full price tickets only. Only one discount per ticket. Proof of status must be shown where appropriate. Tickets are non-refundable unless the performance is cancelled. Theatre Development Fund

Ticket prices include a contribution to our theatre development fund which pays for the restoration and upkeep of our theatres.

Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance, which could be the interval. The Latecomers Policy is set on a show-by-show basis. We advise you to arrive at least 30min before the performance to avoid queues, especially if collecting tickets.

Admission Policy Management reserves the right to refuse admission.

Cancelled Performance If a performance is cancelled we will make every effort to accommodate you at another time, or offer a refund.
