NOT EVERYONE IS GOOD WITH MANAGING THEIR FINANCES. SOME PEOPLE NEED HELP, WHICH IS WHY RUDY RILEY, SOLE SHAREHOLDER OF RILEY & PEARSON FINANCIAL SERVICES INC., IS CONTINUING HIS FATHER’S LEGACY OF PROVIDING FINANCIAL SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES.

“My dad started it in 1949, and I took it over in 1981.” Riley explained. When his dad owned the business, it was called Riley & Rogers Bookkeeping Service. “We’ve had a couple of name changes through the years.” Riley changed the name in 1995 to Riley & Pearson Financial Services Inc. “There was supposed to be a Pearson, but there never was a Pearson. He got cold feet.” Riley said.

RILEY PROVIDES A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES INCLUDING LIFE INSURANCE, FIXED ANNUITIES, 401K ROLLOVERS, IRA’s, retirement planning, notary services and more. “We offer accounting, income tax – with the income tax we do sales tax, returns, business returns, individual returns for small and medium-size businesses.” Riley partners with Community Tax to provide tax debt resolution for his clients.

Originally, Riley’s office was located in downtown Detroit. However, Riley relocated to Oak Park in 2006 after one of his clients mentioned that he had commercial rental property there. “At one point, when we were located downtown, we were the largest independent tax office downtown, from like 1983 until I left in 2006. So we’re still one of the larger independent tax firms even though it looks like we’re small. We’re technically not small compared to other people.”

Many of the almost 600 clients Riley manages have been with him for more than 20 years. Most of Riley's clients first come to him because of their financial problems. They usually become long-time clients because he has years of experience and provides personalized service with a smile.

“Most of my clients that have come to me through the years are problem clients. They have some kind of tax issue going on and I help them resolve it and they become a client.”

RILEY WORKED AT THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE for years. “Then I retired from Wayne County as an audit manager.” His background knowledge and education makes him an expert. Riley has a bachelor of business administration degree with a concentration in accounting, and a double minor in speech communications and general business from Saginaw Valley State University. In addition, Riley has two certifications: Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) and Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA). Riley usually works alone except during tax season when he hires three people to help him during the peak season.
