Dr. Duncan Mukeku, Chiropractic Works
CHIROPRACTIC IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST FIXING THE NECK AND LOWER BACK. DR. DUNCAN MUKEKU, OWNER OF CHIROPRACTIC WORKS P.C. IN OAK PARK, EXPLAINS HOW CHIROPRACTIC CAN IMPROVE FUNCTION FOR THE ENTIRE BODY.
“Think about it like this: Your brain has to communicate with every part of your body to feed messages. The only way a message is going to go from your brain to the big toe is through the spinal cord. So, chiropractic basically opens the spinal cord, which enables the nerve to start functioning better.” Dr. Mukeku said.
DR. MUKEKU AND HIS STAFF OF SEVEN, INCLUDING TWO MORE DOCTORS, treat patients ranging from newborns to 90+ adults, and pregnant mothers too. Typical patient ailments include sciatica, constant headache, dizziness, and more. “When you are getting your spine aligned, you are basically making your heart function better, your kidneys function better because they’re getting the communication they need from the brain.” Dr. Mukeku explained.
His team also treats those who’ve suffered from failed back surgeries. “They come to us because we’ve helped so many people.” Dr. Mukeku is one of the few doctors in Michigan with a post-doctoral degree in auto accident injuries. “Not every doctor is trained to really know what to do with a patient who comes to the office who was involved in an accident. The injuries that are involved go beyond and actually cause a lot of problems later in life for a lot of people.” Dr. Mukeku said most people's body’s don’t feel the negative impact of the accident until often ten years later, when they start suffering from its ailments.
SINCE CHILDHOOD DR. MUKEKU KNEW HE WANTED TO BE A MEDICAL DOCTOR. He needed scholarships to afford medical school, and was awarded many. Dr. Mukeku's medical school dreams were crushed when the scholarships were stolen. However, he never gave up his dream of healing and helping people.
“I looked for something because I really wanted to be a doctor and to heal people. So, I was looking for something that could make my dream come true. I met a chiropractor – we went to church together – and they talked to me about chiropractic I liked it.” I went to the office once a week for a year, and then I decided that’s what I’m going to do.” Dr. Mukeku said.
Dr. Mukeku studied four years of pre-med and then four years of chiropractic school. After graduating, he worked for the doctor who introduced him to it for six months and then started his own business. “My father was a business owner and I grew up in the business world so I just couldn’t see myself being employed by anybody. My father was never employed by anybody and he took care of the family.” Dr. Mukeku has been a chiropractor for the last 16 years.”
CHIROPRACTIC WORKS P.C. OPENED IN 2006 AND IS A FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS. Dr. Mukeku’s wife is the business manager, and his two children have worked at the office throughout the years. Most insurances and medicaid are accepted. “We have a lot of patients that are sent by the Veterans Affairs Hospital.” Dr. Mukeku has a relationship with the Detroit Police Department, Detroit Fire Department, Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and more. “We try to do the best we know and it just opens doors.” They have financially supported the Oak Park youth baseball program for years.
DR. MUKEKU IS EXPANDING THE BUSINESS SINCE MICHIGAN GOVERNOR GRETCHEN WHITMER put into law that chiropractors can now hire medical doctors, nurse practitioners, and physical therapists. “So now we are in the process of looking for physician assistants and nurse practitioners to hire. We already have a doctor we are working with to add to our staff. It’s just going to get better and better.” Dr. Mukeku said. Please contact Chiropractic Works P.C. directly to apply for the open positions.
In 2015 Dr. Mukeku was nominated as a special reservist of the Detroit Police Department. Since 2015, he’s been featured in Hour Magazine as a top chiropractor in Michigan. In 2015 and 2018 Dr. Mukeku was voted as one of the best chiropractors in Michigan by the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare. He challenges people to see a chiropractor to experience better health results. “The greatest problem we have is that a lot of people don’t have an understanding of how powerful chiropractic is.”
