Wine as it is. Fernão Pó Winery is a family business dedicated to producing genuine gastronomic wines, without compromise. Harvested from 148 acres of vineyards in the sandy plains of Fernando Po region, its wines result from four generations of Freitas & Palhoca’s family expertise in winemaking.
Key facts Fernão Pó winery is located in Fernando Po, Palmela, in the Portuguese Setúbal Peninsula Wine Region. The winery founded by Aníbal da Silva Freitas circa 1955, and remains a family business, from joint families Freitas & Palhoça. In the family 148 acres of vineyards red grape varieties predominate. ASF wine, the top choice from Adega Fernão Pó range, was named in honor of the founder, being an acronym of his name. Traditionally Fernando Po was a pilgrimage stop for families from all over Portugal, who sought the best wines to stock up for the whole year.

Fernando Pó Sandy soils 148 acres of vineyards Red grape varieties
Located in the Setúbal Peninsula, the region of Fernando Po is famous for the quality of its grapes, that grow on the soft sands of the plain, under about 2200 hours sunshine per year, sheltered by a microclimate seasoned byTagus and Sado rivers. Red grape varieties particularly reveal in all its glory here. In the 148 acres of family vineyards they are dominant, including local Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Tannat. In the white varieties, the choice went to Fernão Pires, Syria, Verdelho, Viozinho and Muscat. All under the viticulture direction of experienced Custodio Palhoca.

The winery has undergone constant improvements over time, having a capacity to transform about 1000 tons of grapes. The family seeks to combine the best of tradition with modern technology. Including social and environmental concerns, such as adherence to Wine in Moderation program and the Business and Biodiversity, in addition to producing grapes with environmental certification.
Wines In Fernando Po region wine was traditionally part of everyday life, inseparable from food and sold at the cellar door. During the weekends, visitors arrived to fill their cardboys, shared stories and snacks. And became friends. This is a legacy that Fernão Pó Winery keeps alive, creating wines made for the table, genuine and gastronomic under the direction of João Palhoça in oenology.

Named after founder Aníbal da Silva Freitas, every drop of this red wine reflects his commitment to create the perfect wine. It is a full-bodied and elegant red wine, made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Castelão grape varieties, with 6 month aging in barrels. With a profile made to match everyday meals, it covers red, white and rosé versatile and tasty wines, where the local grape varieties shine. Intense gourmet wines, perfected to give a taste of the best grapes from the family vineyards, one variety at the time.
Packaged in convenient Bag in Box system, they assure one can taste a good wine every day, as an appetizer or to match each dish at the table.
People Custódio Palhoça
João Palhoça
Agricultural farm manager with a long experience in viticulture in the region. He founded the company with his father in law, Aníbal da Silva Freitas and is in charge of the vineyards and management. With a degree in oenology, he toured Australia before becoming in charge of Fernão Pó Winery’s winemaking cellar Ferdinand Powder, managing it along with his father, Custódio Palhoça.
