Trail of Gardens
Menil Campus
Houston, TX
Public Center that joins a coffee shop, bookstore, dormitory, tennis courts and locker rooms
Trail of Gardens is Located on the Menil campus, across from the Menil Drawing Institute. The programs are located in separate buildings, but are connected by a path that runs in between them, which also acts as a connection between Loretto Street and Colquitt Street. In addition, there is a ramp that weaves through all of the rooftops that provides a path for passerbys to access the tops of the buildings without having to enter them.

Bellaire Music Hub

A Music Hub for the Community
Our project aims to create a community music center for the Bellaire neighborhood, offering a space for people to learn about music, attend performances, and engage with the arts. The program includes areas for music education, rehearsal spaces, performance venues, and community gathering areas. Located in Bellaire’s downtown district, along Bellaire Boulevard, the city’s most diverse corridor, the site sits on the grounds of an abandoned supermarket. We plan to demolish the old building while preserving the surrounding wall, blending the new design with the existing exterior structure to create a music hub for the community.

FACADE RELATION TO BRICK WALL
Due to the site susceptibility to flooding, the first floor of the building is only comprised of the Lobby so that the rest of the buillding can be lifted off the ground floor. The second floor houses spaces for music lessons and practice rooms as well as a coffee shop and a music store. Finally, the third level is an open area which houses the exhibition and performance space
STRUCTURE
EXTERIOR
The structure utilizes a steel framing system and a shear wall at the base. In addition, it uses concrete cores for the elevator and stair case to help support the cantilever. The exterior facade consits of aluminum metal panels.

Brady Island
Houston, TX
A Self Recycling Island
Waves of Brady is a self-sustaining destination that transforms compostable waste from Houston into compost and mulch. The project seeks to restore the island’s land while supporting agriculture and commercial use. The site will also feature a vegan, plant-based restaurant that incorporates composting practices to minimize waste and promote sustainability.
In line with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership East Masterplan, the project will link Downtown to the Port of Houston to unite the community.

Design Breakdown
The Final Design... incorporates a hybrid system of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Cold Formed Steel. Some walls and columns extend to the transparent curved roof, allowing natural light to fill the space. The roof itself is made of glulam beams and is equipped with solar panel glass, which collects sunlight to power the island.
Step 1: Volume created on the highest elevation of the island
Step 2: Volume broken up into 3 major program spaces; restaurant, composting center, and bagging area, all separated with the plaza spaces, and raised on stilts to prevent flooding
Step 3: Final touch of adding the curved roof that connects all the spaces together as well as creating shade

Cordemex

Redensification of the Cordemex neighboorhood
Our project focuses on creating mixed, diverse, and dense housing in the Cordemex neighborhood. Each team in the class is assigned a 9x18 meter plot, where we will design buildings that engage with the public at ground level while providing housing on the upper floors. Given the location of the project we are focused on natural ventilation strategies. Our designs will incorporate features such as crossventilation, strategically placed windows, open courtyards, and shaded areas to maximize airflow and ensure comfort.

Cordemex site
Our project begins with the concept of two apartments spanning three floors. ‘Apartment A’ starts on the second floor and extends across half of the third floor, while ‘Apartment B’ begins on the third floor and occupies a portion of the fourth floor. These layouts are mirrored on the opposite side of the building to create a balanced and symmetrical design.
