condition only intensifies his craving for her, and he finds himself faced with a choice: a life of passion with Italia, or one of comfort and predictability with Elsa.
"Suddenly, driven by an absurd rebellious impulse, you look for the bones of the man you would have liked to be," Timoteo explains to his unconscious daughter, as if asking forgiveness for his wrongs to her, for his infidelity to her mother, for his cruelty to Italia, for preferring the passionate life he glimpsed so briefly.
In taut, psychologically intense prose, Margaret Mazzantini has crafted an erotically charged tale of obsession, deviance, anddevotion. It is also an emotional and moving prayer for redemption, one that electrifies from start to finish.
