Eight screens — including IMAX — promise spectacle, yet it is non-electric seating delivering maximum comfort that quietly defines the experience.

To realise this vision, the cinema installed the Opus Glide. Its intuitive glide mechanism allows the backrest to move backward and the seat to move slightly forward in response to the guest’s own weight, providing natural support and enhanced relaxation compared with standard static seating — all without motors, wiring, or electrical infrastructure.

This simple, mechanical solution reduces maintenance needs and installation complexity while still delivering a premium, dynamic seating experience.

The Opus family is available in static, glide, and recliner versions, all sharing the same elegant design to maintain a cohesive, high-end aesthetic throughout the venue. The Glide option allows operators to offer midtier price points between standard club seats and full recliners, delivering premium comfort without the cost or complexity of powered seating.

Across all auditoriums, fully reclining seats provide generous comfort without sacrificing space. Premium twin recliners in the back rows feature built-in swivel tables, cupholders, cocoon-style privacy panels, and reading lights—creating an exclusive, luxury experience. Front-row configurations maintain style continuity while allowing for efficient layout planning and accessibility.

Upholstered in contrasting performance leatherette tones, the seating delivers visual impact, durability, and timeless appeal. From specification to installation, every detail was carefully considered to blend elegance with practical functionality.

RISER RECLINER BUSINESS CLASS UPGRADES

The customer selected Ferco’s riser recliners as a practical, high-impact upgrade that delivers premium comfort without the cost, time, or disruption of a full refurbishment. By installing recliners directly onto existing risers, the cinema was able to avoid major structural works, significantly reducing capital expenditure and eliminating the need for extensive construction.

This solution also ensured that screens were not taken out of operation for long periods. Fast installation and minimal on-site work allowed the auditorium to return to service quickly, protecting revenue while still achieving a noticeable upgrade in guest experience.

COMFORT AT A CULTURAL INSTITUTION 2023, London, Paragon 588 Boutique seats

In 2023, this cinema in the heart of London’s cultural complex on the Thames’ South Bank underwent a substantial refurbishment to improve comfort and accessibility.

We manufactured and installed 108 Paragon 588 tip-up seats. This included a front row comprised of removable seats, enhancing the accessibility of the space.

The Paragon 588 is noted for its compact form factor, providing flexibility to fit any space alongside class-leading comfort and multiple options for customisation, including cup holders and embroidery.

The seats are upholstered in a rich velvet by Sunbury Design, the autumnal colour scheme brings both elegnace and character to this iconic cultural venue.

Often hailed as a crown jewel of London’s film scene, the upgraded seating at this venue sees some of the biggest names from film and stage every month.

After years of anticipation, this historic cinema has returned to Edinburgh’s cultural scene— modernised, revitalised, and more inclusive than ever. The renovation blends heritage with contemporary design, creating a welcoming space that celebrates independent cinema while meeting today’s expectations for comfort and accessibility.

Seating played a pivotal role in this transformation, with a focus on ergonomic comfort, operational flexibility, and aesthetic character.

Across all four auditoriums, seating layouts were carefully configured to enhance sightlines, personal space, and audience enjoyment. Removable seat systems allow quick adaptation for wheelchair users, ensuring the venue is inclusive and adaptable for all visitors.

Each auditorium features its own identity through a curated colour palette, using plush, durable upholstery that adds warmth, luxury, and visual appeal. Flame-retardant and abrasion-resistant finishes were selected for long-term performance, while embroidered seat numbers and aisle markers subtly elevate the overall look and functionality.

The deliberate reduction in capacity prioritises spaciousness, accessibility, and premium comfort— reflecting a shift toward quality of experience rather than quantity of seats. The result is a cinema that is intimate, thoughtfully designed, and purpose-built for modern audiences.

Comfort was key in the latest upgrade, with sixty premium seats installed in the newest auditorium—complete with integrated cupholders, embroidered numbering, and removable front-row seating for flexible layouts and accessibility.

In this multiscreen boutique cinema, the Rex Glide was selected as a refined seating solution that enhances comfort while maximising capacity with a fairly compact seat. The glide mechanism allows the seat to move fluidly with the guest, providing a more relaxed and supportive experience than conventional fixed seating.

The Rex Glide can be set or locked into a fixed position at any point, giving operators full control over row spacing and sightlines. This means cinemas can achieve a noticeable comfort upgrade without the need for electrical installations, cabling, or complex infrastructure. Installation is faster, maintenance is minimal, and long-term operational costs are significantly reduced.

At the same time, the Rex Glide is a proven, reliable seating solution, trusted for its sculptural comfort and durability. For this premium cinema, it was subtly re-imagined through bespoke finishes—custom velvet upholstery and tailored timber tables—allowing the venue to express a boutique, high-end identity without taking risks on untested products.

For the customer, this delivers the best of both worlds: better comfort than standard fixed seating, the operational simplicity of a nonpowered solution, and the visual and tactile quality expected of a premium cinema environment.
