Healing time following surgery varies from person to person and is based on a variety of factors, such as hardness of bone. Your dentist may place an abutment, or an extension of the metal post, after that healing period. In some cases, when the implant is very stable, this can be done at the same time that the implant is placed. After that, your soft tissue then needs to heal.
During this time, your dentist will make molds of your teeth and jawbone to place the final tooth or teeth later. The entire process can take many months from start to finish. Much of which is devoted to healing and waiting for the growth of new bone in your jaw. Time spent healing can be greatly impacted by whether or not a bone graft is needed. Although, much of the process is determined by jaw bone growth throughout the entirety of receiving your implants.
