CNC RECYCLING NOMINATED FOR THREE AWARDS AT NFA 2023

National UPVC Recycling company CNC Recycling are delighted to be nominated for three awards at this year’s NFA 2023 Awards.

They have been nominated for Recycling Company of the Year, Kate Riley has been nominated for Business Development/Sales Executive of the year and two nominations for the Director of the year Melanie Coates and Ian Ward.

Managing Director Melanie Coates of CNC Recycling said “We are incredibly proud and humbled by these nominations and is a reflection of our teams consistent efforts and performance. To be recognised in this manner is a testament to our team’s dedication and hard work which embodies the whole ethos and spirit of CNC Recycling. The National Fenestration Awards are incredibly important to us as a company as they are the Fenestration industry’s fastest-growing and most inclusive awards event which are decided completely by the participation of the industry votes These are very special for us as the nominations are from our customers and suppliers working in the window and door industry and we are extremely grateful for their trust and support.

As an Independent company this year has been a hugely significant for us as we have grown from a single North East operation right through to the installation of our brand new state-of-the-art recycling facility that can clean and refine UPVC to the highest possible standards. We are very proud of the innovative and technological system installed.”

CNC Recycling’s installation of the new plant and equipment this year allows for the final processing of UPVC ready for extrusion and was the next natural step for CNC Recycling in the UPVC recycling process to create a closed loop as one of the big

hurdles in reuse is processing UPVC so that it can be used effectively into the extrusion of new products.

The addition of the recycling plant compliments the investment over the last eighteen months into additional shredding, granulation, washing and separation steps to recover ferrous, non ferrous and stainless steel from the UPVC waste streams as well as stones, glass and other impurities.

To further support its customers to reduce their waste on site, CNC Recycling has committed to the glass cullet recycling scheme which has enabled us to provide a post-consumer glass recycling service to installers. This material is processed at our site into glass cullet which can be fed directly into the manufacture of new glass. These developments consolidates CNC Recycling’s long term commitment to creating sustainable products into the future of UPVC recycling represents a significant investment into our recycling facilities and infrastructure throughout the UK ensuring old windows have a home for recycling for many years to come to ensure this primary source of raw materials is never lost to enable the process of recycling old windows and doors back into the fenestration Industry and never lost to landfill.

CNC Recycling continue to be heavily committed to recycling every piece of UPVC waste created as we look to be THE trusted and reliable partner to the fenestration industry.

The NFA’s are very important us and we would be very humbled if you could kindly take the time to vote for our company at - www.fenestrationawards.co.uk/vote/voting closes 29th September

EUROCELL’S MODUS WINDOW SYSTEM AT THE HEART OF THE ENERGY HOUSE 2.0 PROJECT

As part of the industry-wide efforts to develop new build homes that meet the 2025 Future Homes Standard and zero carbon housing, efficient materials and systems are being tested in the Energy House 2.0 project which is being led by students at the University of Salford.

The UK’s leading manufacturer, distributor, and recycler of PVC-U building products Eurocell, alongside Barratt Developments, Bellway Homes and Saint-Gobain, was selected to provide its Modus Window System for the testing project.

Costing £16 million and completed in 2022, Energy House 2.0 is a state-of-the-art testing facility, with the purpose of creating real world, temperature-controlled environments that are necessary for fully understanding how materials and building practices perform.

The Energy House 2.0 has two large chamber that allow for two detached houses to be built

within. Each chamber is capable of simulating a wide variety of weather conditions and temperatures ranging from – 20 to + 40°C. Eurocell’s Future Homes ready Modus system, which was created after a £3m investment in research and development, is a breakthrough in design, engineering and performance that is a result of the construction sector’s leading designers working to solve some of the most pressing thermal challenges.

THE ENDURANCE SHOWROOM TURNS ONE

2023 sees the Rocal Group trading into their 30th year, employing over 250 staff members over two sites and is currently implementing an ambitious strategy to grow substantially over the coming years. Endurance Doors have over 800 installers throughout the UK and are proud to manufacture the most stylish and secure composite door on the market. With over 2000 service reviews they are also the only composite door manufacturer in the UK rated as excellent on Trustpilot, the UK’s premium review platform.

It’s been a busy few years for Endurance Doors with a recent management buyout, the development of an industry leading smooth skin product in Avantal and the opening of a new site which includes a marketing office suite and a consumer facing showroom. This expansion has led to the growth in the both the marketing and sales teams and has ensured new appointments in Graphic Design, Marketing Executive and National Sale Manager roles. The nomination for the composite door manufacturer of the year at this year’s NFA awards is very much warranted.

It’s now been one year that the dedicated staff at Endurance have been providing personal design consultations within their showroom facility. Homeowners can call or book online to sit with the showroom staff to discuss their requirements, such as the style of their house and spend time viewing and getting hands-on with example door designs, glazing units and hardware. It’s also a perfect opportunity to highlight the products USPs, such as the 48mm cross-laminated timber core, use of heat-reflective foiled skins and the unique Moisture Barrier System. However, if you’re not local, you can alternatively book an online design consultation at a time that is convenient. Appointments are available seven days a week and 80% of customers who experience a consultation complete a purchase, demonstrating just how useful this service is to the buying process. This consultation service has become instrumental in the local Installer Partner’s sales process, especially if they are

without their own showroom. The dedicated showroom staff bring decades of collective experience to the table; they understand the significance of attending to each customer’s unique requirements with precision and care. Whether your customers are at the beginning of their buying journey or have a good idea of the design that will suit their home, they will be provided with comprehensive information and guidance, ensuring they leave the showroom with the perfect design in mind and the contact details of a trusted Installer Partner in their area.

The showroom service in conjunction with the other benefits of the Installer Partner scheme, such a free lead generation, in-person product training in their purpose-built facility, and wide range of marketing and customer service support makes the Endurance proposition perhaps the best in the industry.

You can find the showroom on Bridge Street in Brigg, and you can direct your customers to an appointment by calling 01652 340 340, or arrange an online design consultation here on their website: endurancedoors.co.uk/ourshowroom/.

OPENING WINDOWS AND DOORS TO VERSATILE SOLUTIONS

As the cost of living continues to rise, homeowners’ disposable income is restricted along with their capability to undertake home improvement projects. With this in mind Russell Hand, Head of Product and Technical at REHAU Windows, discusses the importance of installers and fabricators ensuring their portfolios are as versatile as possible to secure new business in this challenging climate.

According to insight from Rated People, renovation projects have slowed over the last few months, with only 35% of UK homeowners saying they will definitely be carrying out their planned home improvements in 2023 (down from 52% in 2022) . Yet with energy prices increasing as colder months approach, homeowners will be considering efficient solutions that offer them more than just reduced energy bills.

To combat the shrinking number of home renovation projects available, installers and fabricators should look to their portfolios to ensure they can offer a wide variety and cater to peoples’ requests. With many window and door offerings in the market, to gain new business in a climate where its limited, fitters must be considering energy efficiency as well as everyday concerns of the average homeowner, such as aesthetics and security.

What are homeowners looking for?

Heading into the final months of 2023, inflation remains at about 6.8 per cent and financial markets predict interest rates to peak at 5.75 per cent later this year . Analysts warn it could be well into next year before they start to fall, making energy efficiency an understandable priority to try and reduce costs wherever possible. With the average home losing around 30% of its heat through its windows, considering thermal performance ahead of installation will help futureproof a property in-line with the current energy crisis . For example, REHAU’s Rio Flush Fit French door boasts thermal performance equivalent to an A grade Window Energy Rating (WER), showing low thermal transmittance, reducing heat loss and lowering energy costs.

Additionally, the door uses REHAU’s specially developed deep bottom rail used to complement the original window system. As well as this, installers and fabricators do not need a new-door sash, further streamlining fitting. Complicated fittings can lead to extended project time frames, upping customer costs while preventing fenestration professionals from picking up additional work in a challenging period. So, at a time when homeowners will be looking towards efficient solutions, products such as the Rio Flush Fit French door can help streamline what could be a time-consuming process and offer lasting results.

Visual appeal and efficient function are not mutually exclusive, and customers should not have to forfeit one for the other. A consistent look across a window and door selection can add a sleek finish to any house – portfolios offering a range of finishes can accommodate this. REHAU’s Rio Flush Fit French door provides an appealing solution which also complements the highly popular Rio Flush Fit window selection.

The innovative offering presents homeowners with an attractive timber look without the associated maintenance challenges, aligning with the demand for stylish and practical windows. What’s more, a cleverly engineered jointing and welding process replicates the look of a traditional timber corner joint while ensuring the high standard of a PVCu frame. Available in a range of laminates, from traditional white to wood equivalents like Turner Oak and a contemporary Anthracite Grey look, as well as the Pebble and Agate Grey, the French door demonstrates applicability across both modern and traditional home types.

The Climatec Group, Product Manager John Banks comments on customer preferences: “Current trends for an authentic timber look for windows and doors have shown a big interest in flush products. We’ve been manufacturing these for many years now, and it was very quick and easy to sell the Rio products to our customers who already have been purchasing REHAU TOTAL70 windows and doors from us.

“For example, we had customers that had

never entertained a flush window before until REHAU introduced the Rio products. Fabrication follows the same processes as the TOTAL70 system for the main part, so we found it easy to integrate into our production facility and our customers are assured that their windows and doors will be delivered to them with the same high quality they have come to expect from The Climatec Group”

Security is also a key consideration when choosing a back door. With doors offering an easily accessible point of entry and successful break-ins often occurring due to weak back-door frames, heightened protection is a must. Most windows and doors, such as the Rio Flush Fit French door, are tested against the PAS 24 security standard, which trials the product under the specific intrusion methods of thieves and burglars in the UK.

However, security-conscious homeowners may require additional assurances before deciding on a frame. Secured by Design (SBD), of which REHAU is a member of, provides credentials for its solutions in its capacity as the official police security initiative working to improve building security. This level of recognition means that the Rio Flush Fit French door has been fully tested and certified by an independent third-party, approved by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) authorisation body, providing further assurances to homeowners.

Final Thoughts

During a time in which home improvement spending is limited, reflected in the reduced number of home improvement and new home projects, installers and fabricators need to utilise the strengths of every solution in their portfolio. While energy efficiency is a prime concern given the current climate, the most successful offerings will consider traditional homeowner concerns of aesthetic appeal, security and cost. Being able to do so through the specification of solutions such as REHAU’s Rio Flush Fit French door and window systems will help installers and fabricators stand out in a competitive market.

GQA ACHIEVES ARMED FORCES RECOGNITION

GQA Qualifications has long recognised that re-introducing service personnel into mainstream commerce has an important role to play in helping to bridge the skills gap for the fenestration industry. The sector’s leading awarding and qualifications-writing body is therefore pleased to announce that it has now received the bronze award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), having also signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

Dan Brown, Strategic Relationships Manager of GQA explains what this means both for service personnel and for employers:

“This award recognises GQA’s commitment to defence personnel. Our signing of the Armed Forces Covenant further demonstrates our intention to support the Armed Forces community. This includes both serving and ex-military staff. For those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces, we can offer a stepping-stone into employment or help to further careers through our accredited courses or qualifications. For employers needing to fill job vacancies we would urge them to consider the Armed Forces community as an excellent source of potential recruits.

“We are actively collaborating with organisations who encourage and facilitate recruitment of military and ex-military personnel. One such is FrontFoot, a specialist charity who help place the armed forces community into new

roles whilst supporting them with transition advice and support. Engaging with FrontFoot to bring military service personnel into the sectors which GQA support through accredited training and qualifications is the latest in a growing list of key strategic partnerships we are forming to help alleviate the skills gap.”

Tim O’Keefe, the Founder of FrontFoot says: “Everyone recognises the value that service personnel bring to the world of employment. We have very high hopes that this relationship with GQA will help those looking to add to their workforce right now. For us, working hand in glove with service personnel, it is an ideal opportunity to introduce them to a great industry, where we know there are longterm and ongoing opportunities for career development.

“We are keen to work with the fenestration industry and to bring new blood to it. We know that service personnel bring great attributes to the workplace, and we are really looking forward to making an impact which will benefit all parties. A part of our commitment is to ensure that all the personnel we recruit undergo practical training to give them the best start in their new careers, and to give those employers who engage them the best value for their investment.”

If you would like to know more about the collaboration between GQA and Frontfoot, and have questions on how you can get involved and support the military community, you can email Dan at dan.brown@

FIT FOR THE FUTURE WITH REYNAERS ALUMINIUM SOLUTIONS

As a leading aluminium systems supplier Reynaers is committed to helping to shape a sustainable future for the glazing industry. Through commitment, best practice and working with key industry organisations, Reynaers is ensuring that its aluminium doors, windows and facades are fit for the future.

Nominated as Aluminium Systems Company of the Year in this year’s NFA awards, Reynaers Alumnium UK has doubled down on its commitment to sustainable practices and solutions with the launch of the company’s sustainability strategy, Reynaers Act.

While the details of the Future Homes Standard are still to be confirmed, John McComb, Technical Services Director at Reynaers Aluminium UK – and the company’s sustainability champion, discusses the likely uplift in U-values, and the impact the changes will have on the fenestration industry.

“According to latest figures from the UK Green Building Council the built environment produces around 25% of the greenhouse gas emissions in the UK, with more than a third produced by homes. The implementation of the Future Homes Standard is designed to accelerate the reduction of domestic carbon emissions and paves the way to decrease industry-wide emissions by 75% from 2025 – a necessary step if the UK has any chance of meeting its net zero ambitions by 2050.

To lay the groundwork, the government introduced incremental changes to U-value requirements (element values) last June, which saw a drop of 0.4 to 1.6 W (m2K) from the previous standard for windows and doors installed in new homes or buildings. While those installed in existing buildings required a minimum U-value rating of 1.4 (down from 1.6).

Almost a year on and the industry has responded well. Despite some scaremongering in the lead up, the upgrade in values hasn’t posed too much of a challenge. For Reynaers, we’d already spent the previous two years benchmarking our full product range to make sure they complied with (or exceeded) the 2022 standards and worked closely with our customers to ensure they were fully versed in the changes and had reassurance in our approach, and in our products and systems. We continue to feed into the government consultation and play an active role in

the industry, working closely with trade bodies, such as the Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB) and Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), to keep a track of legislative changes coming down the line. However, we believe the next round of updates are likely to be significantcertainly in the new build sector - and have far reaching implications for the whole industry. We won’t know for certain until the consultation outcome is announced, but we believe that the U-value ratings for windows and door replacements in existing buildings are likely to remain at the same level as those introduced in 2022 (1.4W (m2k)).

However, because the emissions reduction target for 2025 has been set at 80%, we believe that the upgrade in values for windows and doors in new buildings is likely be a substantial reduction on the current levels. Consultation is also ongoing on likely changes to British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) compliance standards, which will also have an impact post 2025, especially for fabricators and installers working in the trade and retail sectors. The tightening of the values for buildings from the current rating of 1.6W (mk2) will inevitably impact the whole fenestration industry. And time is already of the essence - manufacturers should already be investing in developing the next generation of thermally efficient products, or risk losing out to those who are already making in-

roads in this area.

To put the challenge the industry is facing in context, it typically takes Reynaers around 18 months to three years to develop a new product or system. This includes initial concept to prototyping, testing then manufacturing. Throughout each stage we gather and analyse data to ensure the products not only meet the required thermal performance characteristics, but also adhere to our other key performance indicators for air, wind and water protection, durability, acoustics and security. Having our own testing capabilities, of which we have seven facilities across the group, enables us to accelerate progress.

Being a part of a global group has also meant that we’re able to benefit from the expertise and experience gained in other territories. Our involvement in thermal legislative changes across the UK and Europe for more than twenty years gives us an advantage in understanding the market and the direction of travel. For example, this level of thermal performance is already being sought across other markets in Europe, in Switzerland and Scandanavia, for example. So, we have been a part of the product development process working with our European colleagues to overcome the technical challenges involved in designing products with increasingly higher insulation levels.

Having a good understanding of the efficiency roadmap has also enabled us to

get ahead of the game and begin to stretch the boundaries when it comes to developing a full suite of products that are fit for the future. The MasterPatio range is a prime example of this which has been developed to meet demands for better thermal performance that perfectly incorporates the latest architectural features. This is an exciting and challenging time for the industry. The work we’re doing today will help to create the systems that are fit for the future that offer improvements across the board from better thermal efficiency, performance and security, as well as helping to meet our aspirations to contribute to building a more sustainable world.”

In addition to Aluminium Systems Company of the Year, Reynaers has been nominated for Best Use of Video 2023, Digital Marketing Campaign of the Year and Training Company of the Year. While Reynaers’ John McComb has been nominated as Director of the Year, Digital Marketing Co-ordinator Amaris Grey for Young Person of the Year and Social Networker of the Year, Dee Benning has been shortlisted for BDM Sales Executive of the Year, and Steve Hubbard and Agata Malec nominated as Office Manager of the Year.

CLASSIC HERITAGE DOORS – COMPLETE THE LOOK

Sheerline’s slim ‘steel look’ Classic Heritage Door is the perfect, stylish addition to the thermally efficient Classic aluminium window range. Featuring their signature ‘stepped’ look, these iconic doors feature a unique lockbox design, visible on both the interior and exterior, and are available as either single or French doors.

Perfect for both ultra-modern homes, focused on allowing in as much natural light as possible, as well as for period properties wanting to renovate for improved thermal performance and security, while retaining a buildings original charm.

Inspired by the Art-Deco movement as well as turn of the 19th Century industrial design, ultra-slim aluminium doors are increasingly popular with style conscious homeowners, looking to add the wow factor to their renovation or new build project, while creating a clear visual difference to the old products they are replacing.

A fully integrated part of its offering, Classic Heritage Doors are designed to perfectly match the rest of Sheerline’s stepped range. Allowing you to specify bifolds and patios alongside either slim Classic or versatile Prestige windows to deliver a high-quality, consistent aesthetic across a project.

Available now, these stylish, secure, designled doors have sightlines

as slim as 60.5mm to maximise views and flood interiors with as much light as possible. In addition, they are Part L compliant as standard as you would expect from Sheerline because of the use of the company’s proprietary Thermlock® technology.

Thermlock® uses an integrated multichambered system, which improves thermal performance when compared to systems that use polyamide thermal breaks, enabling the company to achieve high-performance U-values of 1.4 W/(m2K) when the Classic Heritage Door is double glazed, and an A+ Door Energy Rating. In line with the companies no nonsense approach to delivering high performance that is easily achievable.

This is an important feature for Sheerline’s customers and homeowners alike. This kind of commitment to energy efficiency will help the UK move towards the 2025 Future Homes Standard – a key part of the Government’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions in new and existing properties. Roger Hartshorn, Sheerline’s CEO, said: “Back in 2019 we launched our very first products from the Classic range. It was the culmination of years of experience, hard work, and a desire to change the aluminium industry to make it better – more reliable, stylish, secure, and sustainable.”

“The fact that we have completed the Classic range with our new Classic Heritage Door shows how far the Sheerline brand has come in a short space of time. It reflects our ability to be versatile and agile, to create design-led products that remain practical, stylish, and sustainable. NEW: ECO PASS LEVEL 0-MM THRESHOLD FROM SIEGENIA BARRIER-FREE WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Create access to the outside without even the smallest of obstacles: with the new ECO PASS level 0-mm threshold for PORTAL HS, SIEGENIA is consistently expanding the options for the barrier-free design of lift-and-slide elements. Initially suitable for timber and timber-aluminium elements, the level 0-mm threshold offers end users convenience and quality of life across generations thanks to its running rail, which is completely recessed in the profile - and completely without inclines. This makes it an ideal solution for highend, contemporary commercial projects as well as, for example, senior residences, where the specifications demand the maximum of DIN 18040-2 and therefore, could require the mandatory use of a barrier-free threshold. High quality in regards to the sill installation is ensured by certification of the threshold according to the stringent MO-01/1 compression regulations from the ift Rosenheim. This means that SIEGENIA combines maximum room comfort requirements with innovative solutions for professional integration in the building envelope.

The ECO PASS level 0-mm threshold combines the topic of barrier-free accessibility with other aspects of room comfort. Hence, it underlines the elegance and value of the PORTAL HS range with its attractive appearance and flat design. The topic of energy efficiency is also emphasised because ECO PASS possesses outstanding insulating features and first-class thermal insulation. The wellconceived 10-chamber profile prevents the formation of condensate and provides a pleasant indoor environment. Moreover, the new threshold ensures room comfort due to its excellent watertightness: thanks to the two-level drainage, the same standard of watertightness is achieved as with the conventional thresholds with sloped water drainage channels.

Time and cost benefits in fabrication and assembly

Fabricators will be won over by the ECO PASS level 0-mm threshold and moreover, by its well-conceived and efficient fabrication and assembly. From the sealing components and the easy-toclean threshold to the weather bars, all extension parts are identical to those of the standard threshold. This means that fabricators benefit from the retention of established processes and from lean warehousing. In addition, the matching base profiles can be quickly assembled over the complete threshold depth and

provide stability and consistent ease of use in the floor recess.

The production of lift and slide elements is more efficient than ever due to the delivery of the threshold as a COMFORT UNIT. This intelligent overall concept for cost-effective work enables fabricators to purchase the ECO PASS as complete project-specific packages. These include, first of all, the thresholds, which SIEGENIA delivers cut to millimetre precision, individually predrilled, sealed and preassembled. The complete solution also includes all hardware and profile components listed in the order in the matching assembly and length.

UNLOCKING INNOVATION AND WHY IT MATTERS

Kamila Kasperowicz, Marketing Director at UAP, explains how innovation is shaping new product design and its vital role in meeting the changing needs of the fenestration industry and its customers.

Innovation is at the heart of the rapidly changing fenestration industry. To keep up with the evolving needs of our customers as well as market shifts, new technology, design and ideas are essential.

At UAP, a continuous investment in innovation sees our inhouse research and development work closely with consumers, fabricators and installers to bring new products to market. The feedback and input we receive through this process is essential to shape market-leading products.

Game changing security

One example is the IONIC. This ultra-secure electronic lock follows five years of research and development, ensuring it features the

technology required to meet the changing needs of residents and property owners.

Nominated in the New Product of the Year category at the NFA Awards 2023, the lock can be operated using a smartphone App, a fob, push button on the inside, or a thumb turn. When a resident gets to the door, they simply press the handle down and walk in.

The time it takes for the lock to activate can be adjusted to suit the resident. The App can be used to set up new users and time settings, allowing one off access for workmen or regular access for cleaners or carers for example.

An override key can be used in an emergency and when tenants leave a property ensuring a swifter and safer handover. This key, and the main control unit on the inside of the door, can be replaced in less than 10 minutes, meaning there is no need to change the whole lock or the door when a tenant vacates the building. After unscrewing the unit, the wiring loom can be simply unclipped, requiring no special skills. Any existing fob can be reprogrammed in seconds.

Based on the latest mechanical and car vehicle technology, the IONIC has been developed to offer the most advanced security encryption on the market. The fob codes can’t be stolen by intercepting the signal in the same way that thieves target keyless cars. This is because every fob has been

manufactured with two million rolling codes, making every transmission unique.

Face recognition further enhances security, and no server is needed to control the lock which holds no data.

As a 45mm backset multipoint lock, the IONIC can be installed on timber, aluminium and composite doors of any thickness between approximately 44 to 54mm. No complex wiring is needed making the product as simple to fit as any multipoint lock.

Above and beyond

Innovation combined with extensive testing, has also been integral to the development of

a letterplate at UAP.

Despite already offering the market-leading TS008 letterplate, we saw an opportunity to improve on the existing Soterian model. The aim was to help our customers overcome common issues such as bulkiness and deliver the highest standards of fire safety going beyond the requirements of TS008 and PAS24.

This led to the launch of the TS008 Soterian Slim Certifire letterplate. Designed in house and nominated in the Door Component of the Year category at the NFA Awards 2023, this product is unique to the UK market.

Designed for 44mm – 70mm composite, timber and uPVC

doors, the Soterian Slim is the most compact TS008-compliant letterplate ever made measuring just 298mm x 98mm, with a flap projection of just 14mm. The 14mm flap projection is 21mm less than UAP’s standard Soterian model, which was already significantly slimmer than anything else on the market.

The TS008 Soterian Slim’s design limits the flap opening to just 39 degrees – providing performance beyond the requirements of TS008. The stays are securely attached to the sides of the unit and fold flat for transit and storage, before being unfolded to limit flap projection at installation. The serrated stays remain open during fitting and the serrated edge has been designed to prevent manipulation of the door’s thumb turn with the use of a strap or cord.

The absence of fixings to the TS008 Soterian Slim letterplate’s exterior further enhances security by preventing the outer section from being unscrewed from the door. This also provides a sleek and contemporary aesthetic.

The limited internal flap projection of just 14mm from the door surface makes the unit less intrusive, allowing it to be conveniently fitted at waist-height between the hinge and the handle and enabling the occupier to fully open the door.

Secured by Design approved and BSI Kitemarked, the TS008 Soterian Slim has been tested to 20,000 cycles to ensure an extended service life. The units are available in a choice of aluminium for interior front doors and stainless steel for weathered exterior locations, with a choice of white, black, chrome, gold, satin chrome or satin silver finishes, enabling easy matching with other door hardware and interior finishes.

Keeping up with the pace

As the fenestration industry continues to evolve, the need for innovation will become more important than ever before. By investing in new product design and taking the time to listen to customers, manufacturers will ensure the needs of all parties are met now and in the future.

TITON VENT RANGE GROWS TO MEET MARKET DEMAND

Titon’s recent investment in new tooling and assembly machinery is now coming to fruition with a wider choice of options in its mainline plastic vent ranges.

Changes in customer demand since the revision to the Building Regulations last year have meant the need for a broader range of colours in both ventilators and external canopies. Window and door profiles are now offered in a standard palette of colours, so ventilator manufacturers are expected to keep the majority of these in stock to cope with demand and shorter lead times. Titon’s newest machinery will enable more flexibility in replenishing those stocks and bring efficiencies to production.

In addition three plastic vent sizes, 2000mm2EA, 4000mm2EA and 5000mm2EA mean most applications can be covered in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a choice of grilles for use in overhead sections or canopies for use externally.

The increase in demand following on from the revision to the Ventilation Regulations proved difficult for vent manufacturers, fabricators and specifiers last year but Titon is in a great position to supply according to demand with stock on the shelf in the majority of options.

Titon offers a wide variety of Trickle Vents, encompassing both plastic and metal options. Their plastic vents, Trimvent® Select Xtra and Trimvent® 4000 Hi Lift, are industry leading. The SF Xtra Sound Attenuator (Acoustic) Vent, stands out for its exceptional acoustic properties. For those seeking visually pleasing options, Titon also provides metal vents like SF Xtra Vent, Trimvent® SM and Trimvent® 90 Hi Lift in various colour options.

EDGETECH RELAUNCHES ENHANCED CUSTOMER QUALITY PRODUCTION REVIEWS

Edgetech (a Quanex company) has always prized quality and customer service as the two cornerstones of their business.

Before the pandemic, one area where Edgetech offered outstanding customer service was through its regular customer quality production reviews – compulsory for members of its well-respected Super Spacer® Dealership scheme, but freely available for customers who requested them.

They aimed to ensure Edgetech customers were applying their spacers to the highest standards and helped them achieve outstanding results with every unit.

Highly acclaimed by IGU manufacturers around the country, the quality reviews, carried out in person by experienced technical experts, had to stop during the pandemic.

Now, they have returned, with a new process that makes them quicker and easier than ever, as Managing Director Chris

Alderson explains.

“Our customer quality production reviews were a hugely valuable service, that helped both us and our customers ensure that Super Spacer® was performing to an exceptional standard in millions of units around the country.

“We’re delighted to be able to offer them again and to have significantly improved the process to make them even more convenient for our customers.

“Thanks to a simple online checklist, our engineers can quickly establish whether any improvements are needed to ensure our spacers are delivering the best possible performance in finished units.

“If you’re an Edgetech customer who would like to take advantage of this service, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!”
