Fenestration Digital Magazine Edition 59 June 2024

Page 1

Hello and welcome to the June edition of Fenestration Digital!

We have quickly reached the half-way point in the year and we are very close to seeing a change in power within the Government. What a first half to the year we have seen.

From industry turbulence such as bankruptcies and buyouts, to new products announced across the sector, it was certainly an enthralling start to the year.

Now, with summer here and finally some good weather, things feel like they are about to turn a corner, with hopefully a more settled outlook and an anticipated honeymoon period after the election, the second half could provide a more positive outlook.

It is another packed edition of Fenestration Digital this month and we hope you enjoy reading!

‘STOP THE SPREAD’ STARTS NOW

UAP Ltd launches innovative campaign for groundbreaking Armasmart® anti-viral hardware

Leading door and window hardware

manufacturer UAP Ltd Is excited to launch its Armasmart® anti-viral hardware through its newly-established division Armadillo® Metal Coatings Ltd.

The revolutionary Armasmart® hardware coating is the first on the market to eliminate 99.98% of viruses, including COVID-19. This is achieved through a patent-pending coating technology that prevents harmful bacteria from accumulating on stainless steel surfaces.

Armadillo® Metal Coatings Ltd will work with

– and across – various environments, and health and safety in settings ranging from healthcare facilities to private homes.

In conjunction with these two launches, the ‘Stop the spread’ campaign addresses a critical need for improved infection control. According to a WHO report, seven out of every 100 patients in acute-care hospitals, in high-income countries, acquire at least one healthcare-associated infection, with a significant percentage resulting in fatalities.

The Armasmart® product line includes pull handles, push plates, door closers, kick plates, signage, bathroom turns, escutcheons, hinges and lever handles, plus bespoke products

that can provide flexible solutions for door manufacturers and their clients.

One of the standout features of Armasmart® hardware is its self-sanitising properties; reducing the need for frequent cleaning and the use of harsh chemicals, streamlining maintenance efforts and promoting a healthier environment.

The specialised coating on Armasmart® products offers exceptional resistance to corrosion and tarnishing. This ensures a longer lifespan for the hardware, maintaining its aesthetic appeal and functionality over time; providing a costeffective solution for maintaining hygiene. This is particularly beneficial in settings where door hardware is subject to frequent use and exposure

to harsh cleaning agents.

UAP Ltd’s investment in Armasmart® signifies a strategic move to lead the market with products that not only meet but exceed the evolving demands for health and safety. The launch of the Armasmart® range is a testament to UAP’s dedication to providing innovative solutions that enhance everyday living and working environments.

KELLY’S HEROES KILIMANJARO CHALLENGE

Ian Ward of CNC Recycling is currently preparing himself for the challenge of a lifetime after committing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in September a huge 5,895m volcano in Tanzania.

Ian is part of a team of fifteen made up of glazing industry representatives in support of the overall fundraising effort for the Kelly’s Heroes charity.

The charity was established in 2019 following the suicide of Kelly Hewitt the daughter of John Hewitt the former chairman of the Glazerite Group which offers support for mental health initiatives and for families in crisis

The team as part of their training have now climbed both Snowden in Wales and the most recent stage was climbing Scafell Pike in the Lake District, with the next step of the team’s training is to take on the Three Peaks Challenge in Yorkshire in July.

The climb up Kilimanjaro will take seven days in total following the Machame route which allows for gradual acclimatisation to the altitude giving a better chance of reaching the summit.

Ian said “This is such a challenge to climb Kilimanjaro but ultimately an exciting and rewarding one and having met most of my team members that are involved in the challenge will hopefully provides us with a once in a lifetime experience as they are such a great group of people. Being able to do this for the charity knowing about the unbelievable work and dedication they show means that for me to be able to help and be a supporter of Kelly’s Heroes is a great privilege.

We hope that our fund raising efforts can raise awareness on mental health issues which leaves many to suffer in silence and help the prevention of suicide. Fundraising events such as these are vital as it allows them to continue their amazing work.”

As the team work towards their target if anybody is able to kindly sponsor or donate it would be greatly appreciated by the charity

BUILDING OUR SKILLS HAILS TRAINING SUCCESS

FOR EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD APPRENTICE

Eighteen-year-old Oliver Wells may only have been in the fenestration industry for a couple of years, but already he has been awarded a Distinction upon passing the Apprenticeship Standard in Fenestration Installation Level 2. ‘Ollie’ - as he is known to friends and colleagues – is on track for more success thanks to a great work ethic and thirst for training and career progression.

The young Fitter at Harveys Windows & Conservatories in Leicester is being supported by employers who are keen to nurture his talents and help him develop and attain the skills and qualifications he needs to forge a successful career in the industry.

Sally Roberts, one of the Directors at the company says: “Huge congratulations to Ollie. He’s a great example of someone who is going places in the fenestration industry. Here at Harveys we’re committed to staff development, and we strongly believe that training and the achievement of vocational qualifications is the way forward in this regard. That’s why we’re advocates of the work being done by Building Our Skills and why we’re very pleased to be representatives on their Advisory Panel. We strongly recommend other companies in the industry get on board and support Building Our Skills’ aims of attracting new talent to the fenestration industry and nurturing those employees we already have. We need to see more young people like Ollie going down the apprenticeship route so that we can all help to safeguard high standards in the industry.”

Ollie adds: “Getting the qualification has been

really good for me. I had coursework to do where I learnt all about building regs, health and safety and risk assessments - things you wouldn’t necessarily learn about just being out on site. Then, I had to have my practical work assessed too. It’s been a great experience and I think training and qualifications are the way to go for me. I just want to keep on learning. Maybe one day I’ll then have my own business!”

Ollie’s training was provided by Glass & Fenestration Training Solutions (GFTS). A range of courses offered by GFTS includes an introduction to fenestration for beginners, window and door installation, curtain wall and glass technology, intermediate and advanced programmes, along with specialist opportunities and surveying, in addition to theoretical training options. GFTS’s practical training centres offer hands-on, realworld training in the fenestration industry.

Samantha Tinker, GFTS’s Director of Business and Quality who also sits on the BOS advisory panel says: “Congratulations to Ollie from us here at GFTS too. It’s great to see Harveys supporting its staff through apprenticeships. Qualifications and good-quality training are a means of helping learners to carve out a career in the industry and help business managers to retain their staff and compete competitively. We’re very pleased to be part of Building Our Skills’ network of training providers.”

SHEERLINE X COASTAL PARTNERSHIP GOES FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

A year on from its debut at FIT Show 2023, the Sheerline x Coastal Group partnership is going from strength to strength as it offers consumers even greater choice in terms of the hardware options available to leverage their quality aluminium windows and doors.

This includes the Classic Heritage Door, which the companies first collaborated on and was revealed at Sheerline’s stand during the key industry event last year. Based in Cornwall, the Coastal Group manufactures architectural ironmongery using 316 grade marine steel.

They’re committed to keeping things simple for consumers with the perfect fit guaranteed, superior standards, and the ultimate in lasting performance. Like Sheerline, the company offers a range of different finishes that keep pace with contemporary trends.

For example, while black is one of the most popular colours at present (and works well with the Heritage door), brass is up and coming. The wide choice of hardware available for both windows and doors means the partnership has broad appeal for Sheerline’s customers.

As both are British-based manufacturers that pride themselves on providing innovative yet stylish products for discerning customers, there was a clear synergy between the two brands. This has forged the way for a productive partnership that benefits the customers of each.

In addition, Sheerline supplied a window for Coastal’s showroom to help customers better visualise how the two products work together from a practical perspective and how they elevate and complement each other from a purely aesthetic point of view.

Brooklyn Jenner, responsible for Business Development at Coastal Group, said: “We’re delighted to add one of Sheerline’s premium windows to our brand centre. This latest addition to the showroom gives customers the opportunity to feel the quality and finish for themselves, experiencing Sheerline’s stunning aluminium products alongside Coastal Group’s high quality solid stainless-steel hardware.”

Sheerline’s Head of Marketing, Dave Wigley, commented: “This partnership highlights the value that can be added for customers when two quality brands come together and collaborate. This partnership speaks volumes to the discerning customer that wants to achieve a high-end aesthetic and elevate their beautiful Sheerline windows and doors, and why shouldn’t they?”

SKY’S THE LIMIT FOR SHEERLINE

AND

TITAN’S S1 ROOF LANTERN PARTNERSHIP

Sheerline has named Titan Aluminium as one of the top suppliers of its award-winning S1 Roof Lantern. With over 30-years’ experience, the Hampshire-based company specialises in the manufacture of rooflights.

Titan wanted a roof lantern that would complement their existing range while also ensuring it offered comparable benefits in terms of the overall look and style, thermal efficiency, security, and quality, which is why they selected the S1 system, rather than the other options available.

Part of the appeal of Sheerline’s roof lantern is the fact the in-house design team developed the product from the ground up. They knew the weaknesses that existing roof lanterns had, including the areas prone to leaks and poor thermal efficiency, and set about changing this.

Applying Sheerline’s vision and contemporary style to the S1, the company took a traditional roof lantern design and transformed it, making it slimmer and sleeker. With unique inline corner and rafter caps.

The key benefits of this, from the perspective of Titan Aluminium is a combination of factors; the aesthetics, the ‘fit and forget’ confidence of the product they supply and the ease of installation. Resulting in happy customers and repeat business.

Besides the S1, Titan also supplies SheerVent® –Sheerline’s revolutionary approach to roof vents, which was revealed on the company’s stand at FIT Show 2023. It’s another unique selling point as it overcomes the historic issues of leaky, unreliable ventilation options.

John Jones, Managing Director of Titan Aluminium, said: “If you’re thinking about stocking the S1, but you’re unsure, it’s an evolution of all the good roofs you’ve known, but it’s been innovated and updated – it’s the warmest, slimmest and most stylish lantern. Your fitters will love it because it’s easy to install and your customers will love the look.”

“We had been looking for a roof lantern for years, but I hadn’t found one I felt I could put my name to, until this one. The product is second to none, and working with Sheerline is brilliant – I’ve had nothing but a great experience,” he added.

Tony Basile, Sheerline’s Sales Director, said: “We’ve been working with Titan Aluminium for a number of years now, so it’s no surprise that they’re one of our top S1 suppliers. The relationship our companies have is based on a shared ethos where the customer comes first because we create quality products that are innovative, work, and look good at the same time.”

WILL 2024 BE THE YEAR THAT FENESTRATION EMBRACES INSTALLATION TAPE?

Talk about thermally efficient glazing, and minds naturally jump to what windows are made of – the glass, the frame, gas, spacers and so on.

We’re much less inclined to think about how the finished window is fitted – and that can have one of the biggest impacts of all.

However, at Quanex company Edgetech, they’re beginning to see signs that attitudes are changing.

In addition to its world-renowned Super Spacer®, the firm also supplies TruFit®, a state-of-the-art window installation tape – and in recent months, demand for it has noticeably increased.

“TruFit offers a much quicker, cleaner and thermally efficient method of installing windows,” explains Head of Sales Tony Palmer.

“Once the tape’s backing paper is removed, it gradually expands to seal the window fully, ensuring it offers exceptional all-round performance.

“TruFit protects against mould, and provides firstclass thermal and acoustic insulation.

“On average, a window installed with TruFit retains up to 23% more heat compared to one fitted using

traditional methods.

“In addition to this, it’s much easier to apply than silicone and can be used in all weathers.

“All this makes it an excellent choice for helping build the energy-efficient windows of the future – and it’s no surprise that, both for cutting carbon footprints and energy bills during a cost of living crisis, demand for products like TruFit is rising.

“An A+ rated window isn’t delivering an A+ rated performance if it’s not fitted properly – and with TruFit, installers can ensure outstanding twentyfirst century windows are fulfilling their potential.”

The recently released Spring edition of the Keystone Consumer Fenestration Trends report revealed that many people are unhappy with their current windows and doors.

Draughty homes topped the list, with 16% of homeowners reporting issues with cold air leaks, often attributed to poorly fitted windows and doors or worn-out seals.

Energy efficiency was another big concern, with 12% of homeowners feeling their windows and doors weren’t keeping their homes comfortable or saving them money on energy bills.

Noise pollution was also cited as a problem, with 7% of homeowners mentioning outside noise coming through their windows and doors.

Tony continues: “Homeowners are clearly more concerned about window performance than ever – and TruFit can give them the comfort, quiet and energy savings they’re looking for!”

If you’re interested in learning more about TruFit, don’t hesitate to contact Edgetech.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SMOKE & MIRRORED TEST EVIDENCE

Mark Alton – Head of Product Management at Winkhaus UK guides us through the changes to fire doorset legislation and the requirements for a compliant residential fire doorset.

Fire safety and fire door legislation has changed significantly in recent years, with changes impacting every stage and aspect of a fire doorsets lifecycle, from design and testing to ongoing inspection and maintenance. The most recent changes include defining the role and responsibilities of responsible persons (RB’s) and accountable persons as covered in the Fire Safety Order (October 2023) and Social Housing acts (April 2024), which completes the sequence of changes identified by the Grenfell enquiry.

For RBs to meet their responsibilities, it’s

appropriate to remind specifiers of the initial legislation changes that changed the way fire doorsets are designed, tested and how this test evidence is verified. This critical first stage in a fire doorsets specification becomes the thread of evidence that must be maintained through the lifecycle of a doorset, the Golden Thread. Mistakes at this initial stage mean a non-compliant solution will be specified, manufactured, installed, and maintained.”

Legislation requirements

The 2019 MHCLG (Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government) guideline identified the 3 critical performances for a fire doorset as Fire, Smoke & Security. The MHCLG guideline, along with the independent review of

building regulations and fire safety, also states that these critical performances should be 3rd party audited and certified.

Design and Test Evidence

These are a specific standard’s that fire doorsets should be tested against:

Fire Performance – EN 1634-1 or BS 476-22

Smoke Performance – EN 1634-3 or BS 476-3

Enhance Security Performance – PAS24

All Winkhaus fire and smoke testing is caried out using EN 1634 as this is viewed as the more onerous of the two standards.

The Importance of Smoke

Earlier this year the Home Office published the latest detailed information on incidents attended by the Fire & Rescue Services, which provides a stark reminder of the importance of smoke as a key performance for a fire doorset. From the recorded fatalities just over half were overcome by smoke or the combination of burns and overcome by smoke.

As a business we have always tested our fire doorset solutions against all three performances, becoming the first to achieve three separate 3rd party accreditations for these performances and the first to receive this for mirrored Smoke performance. For smoke we are further seeking improvements in the standard as it currently allows for the door threshold to be taped during testing, an inclusion we do not agree with or follow in our own testing, as this blocks a gap at the bottom of the door sealing or hiding a potential weakness. All Winkhaus smoke test evidence captures fully assembled doorsets including all hardware and

thresholds installed as they will be on site.

Mirrored Evidence

To create a compliant scope of accredited solutions its critical to test the range of solutions to the required standards for each of these three key performances, but also that the evidence is mirrored across the proposed range.

It is critical that testing reflects the range of products a fabricator wants in their scope of certification. As an example: If testing is completed for one door design, with identical hardware and fittings, this is the only door that evidence should be used for. The evidence from these tests cannot be used to show compliance for a new design with different hardware and fittings as there is no evidence to support the performances following these changes, so multiple tests must be carried out in order to build a compliant range of solutions.

In addition to testing our fire doorset solutions against all three performances, each performance now has its own mirrored FoAp (Field of Application) that identifies the design and range of products that are covered.

3rd Party Certification

The introduction of 3rd party certification across the lifecycle of fire doorset was one of the main requirements of the new legislation. For RBs and tenants this provides confidence in the information provided and peace of mind that a compliant solution is being specified and installed. 3rd party certification schemes bring together the test evidence from these field of applications and consolidates the approved design range within the door manufacturers “Scope of Certification”.

UKAS accredited 3rd Party auditing is not just required to verify test data for fire doors, it is a critical requirement throughout the Golden Thread or lifecycle of a fire doorset. Every stage from manufacture, through survey and installation, annual inspection and any remedial maintenance, must be 3rd party audited. All these stages within the Golden Thread refer back to the original Design and Testing, ensuring the correct components are being used to make or maintain a door.

Why Winkhaus?

Over the past decade the Winkhaus UK Technical Team have been involved in the creation and implementation of the latest standards and guidance for fire doorsets. Winkhaus fire doorset solutions are manufactured through our partner network of over sixty 3rd Party certified companies. With our partner fabricators, we have one of the largest evidence banks of compliant solutions for both timber and composite internal and external fire doorsets, all independently audited by BM Trada as part of their Q Mark scheme. This not only ensures our test evidence is always compliant, but always expanding to provide the most comprehensive range of options for all your project requirements.

Winkhaus Evidence Bank

Our continued investment in testing not only ensures our continued compliance, it provides specifiers with the widest range of solutions to meet all residential and social housing requirements. As an example, our evidence bank now contains over 170 primary fire tests, evidence that was further expanded with the launch of the external composite and timber fire doorset ranges earlier this year. These external solutions have been 3rd party UKCA certified for Fire and Smoke a requirement for external and communal flat entrance doors.

Our range of solutions includes both 30 minute and 60 minute fire doorset solutions, with our internal 30 minute solutions averaging 47 minutes performance, an average over 50% higher than the minimum allowed results and with several tests achieving over an hours performance.

Winkhaus Support

Creating compliant fire doorset specifications can be challenging for specifiers especially with the number and significance of changes in recent years. To support specifiers, we have created a series of checklists to simplify these changes and can further support specifiers in creation of their specifications and training to support their compliance journey.

For further information on how we can help with your specifications, to request copies of our checklists, for information on the new ranges of external timber and composite fire doorset solutions or our expanded ranges of internal timber and composite fire doorset solutions, please visit www.winkhaus. co.uk/en/firedoorsets or email marketing@winkhaus.co.uk

“As a long standing supporter of the NFAs, we recognise and appreciate the honour of becoming a finalist in so many categories, and we wholeheartedly thank everyone who voted in favour of our products and our company.”

Why Winkhaus?

At Winkhaus UK, everything we do is centred around guaranteeing the success of our customers, providing added value services and solutions to ensure they have maximum competitiveness. The recognition of the products and services we offer by becoming a finalist in the National Fenestration Awards’ Hardware of the Year category is a testament to the hard work that’s been done in all areas of our business.

From the quality and reliability that is consistently measured through the manufacturing process, ensuring timely delivery and a dedicated customer service team, to the bespoke development and testing of our technical and laboratory teams, Winkhaus offers a comprehensive service to our

customers that doesn’t end once our products are sold.

autoLock AV4: An Innovative Addition to Winkhaus’ Portfolio

Since they introduced the first hooked autoLock almost 20 years ago, Winkhaus has endeavoured to expand and develop its renowned AV range in an innovation timeline of industry firsts. The high-security solution has now been nominated for three categories in this year’s awards: New Product of the Year, Door Component of the Year and Digital Marketing Campaign of the Year.

Andrew said: “We are thrilled to see that our newest autoLock has become a finalist for three categories in the National Fenestration Awards this year. Introduced to a great reception last year, AV4 has introduced a host of new features and improvements suitable for multiple markets and applications. With a low force to operate and wider operational tolerances, it reduces the need to revisit sites and make adjustments, saving lost time and increasing customer satisfaction.”

The autoLock AV4 range consists of the AV4, AV4 Heritage, AV4 EntryGuard, AV4 M4 with blueMatic EAV4, blueMatic EAV4+ motors controllable with the Winkhaus doorControl application. The new AV4 product family is available in a range of backsets and faceplate sizes including U-rail, providing suitability for all door constructions.

aluPilot: Revolutionising Aluminium Window Production with Enhanced Efficiency

Winkhaus UK has also become a finalist in the 2024 for the innovative aluPilot system, with a nomination for Window Component of the Year.

Launched in the UK in 2022, aluPilot allows Aluminium fabricators to save up to 10 minutes of production time per window with aluPilot, compared to traditional systems available on the market. Winkhaus has confirmed the result of 10 minutes time saving in tests conducted with manufacturers during aluPilot’s development and subsequent roll-out to European systems houses. When multiplied across weekly production, these time savings really start to add up.

In addition to efficiency gains, aluPilot offers impressive weight capabilities, catering to various applications. With options to support sash weights ranging from 130kg to 300kg, our aluPilot system is versatile and adaptable to diverse needs.

Andrew said: “At Winkhaus, we pride ourselves in developing innovative solutions to meet the requirements of our customers and guarantee their success. One of the most critical factors in manufacturing is time, and our aluPilot fitting system is designed to streamline the production process of aluminium windows. This will contribute to a more efficient and production-friendly system, saving time and increasing our customers’ productivity.”

As a main sponsor of the National Fenestration Awards 2024, Winkhaus UK would like to congratulate all finalists, and wish them good luck for the event. To vote for your favourites in this year’s awards, visit the NFA website: www.fenestrationawards.co.uk/nfa24/

SUPER 8 FOR LEADING HARDWARE SUPPLIER

UAP Ltd nominated for eight prestigious industry titles as NFA 2024 shortlist is announced

The UAP team is celebrating eight National Fenestration Award (NFA) nods ahead of this October’s ceremony. The nominations span across the people, products and processes encapsulating UAP’s allencompassing approach to manufacturing and management, innovation in the industry and investment in employees and training.

UAP has made the shortlist for the following categories:

Director/Managing Director of the Year – Nicola John (FDM)

Office Manager of the Year – Tasha Doyle

Social Networker of the Year – Barry Halpin

Hardware Company of the Year

New Product 2024 – IONIC Electronic Lock by Fullex-ai

Door Component of the Year – IONIC Electronic Lock by Fullex-ai

Training Company of the Year – FDM Training

Sales Executive Of the Year – Barry Halpin

If UAP takes home the Hardware Company of the Year title, it will be the second consecutive year they

have received the trophy. The 2023 ceremony also saw David Jennings, UAP’s CEO, presented with a NFA Lifetime Achievement award. Here he explains how delighted the team is to receive so many nominations this year, but how it’s all part of a day’s work…

“Anyone in the industry will tell you how meaningful it is to receive an award – even a nomination –that has been voted for by your professional peers,” says David. “To be shortlisted for eight 2024 NFA categories makes me extremely proud of all the team and their hard work.

“I am proud of them every day though. And, if you look at the categories we have been nominated in, it shows the width and breadth of everything we stand for at UAP Ltd. We have been evolving as a brand and a business since our inception in 1996.

“We care about our people and we want them to thrive in our business and the wider industry. So, to be in the running for four individual awards – Director/Managing Director of the Year, Office Manager of the Year, Social Networker of the Year and Sales Executive Of the Year – is a credit to those people and the teams they work in.

“Of course, we are passionate about product. The launch of the IONIC Electronic Lock with Haptic Technology by Fullex-ai has been a modern milestone in our company history, and the two nominations for it are absolutely fantastic. We believe our R&D team, and in-house testing department are second-tonone. Every other product from UAP over the last three decades has helped pave the way for the next and we are developing new ideas and innovations every day, based on the ever-changing landscape of the fenestration industry and consumer demands.

“The opening of the Fire Door Maintenance Training Centre earlier in the year has also been a significant signpost on our timeline. Based at our HQ in Bury, this centre is the first of its kind – and the only one of its kind in the UK – which makes the Training Company of the Year and Nicola John’s nominations really special too.

“We are thrilled with the announcement, and I’d like to personally thank of all the UAP team for the hard work they put in every day. Awards really are the cherry on the cake, and as we manufacture and supply thousands of products across both commercial and domestic, with multiple industry-leading brands, all over the world – the list of categories really does encapsulate the essence of UAP.

“Good luck to all of our fellow nominees and see you at the finals in October!”

SIEGENIA FOCUSES ON SMART LIVING

FEEL AT HOME IN THE FUTURE

Throughout its over 100-year history, SIEGENIA has been at the forefront of innovation, and this remains the case today. Their extensive smart home offering includes motorised doors and access control systems, monitoring, sensor and app technology that can be integrated with thirdparty products to create smart living scenarios.

GENIUS door lock and access control systems

One established, popular product which led the way for SIEGENIA in this field is their GENIUS electromechanical multi-point door lock. Perfect for high-end projects where accessibility and security are paramount, the powerful gear motor quickly and quietly locks and unlocks the round bolt-hook bolt combination in the auxiliary lock case as well as the main bolt, ensuring maximum sealing. And this can be combined with any of SIEGENIA’s digital access control systems, such as their fingerprint scanner, keypad, transponder, or even their SIEGENIA comfort app for maximum ease of operation and optical effect. It can also be combined with third-party systems. The GENIUS is not just suitable for residential buildings but there are also versions available as emergency exit and panic door solutions for commercial projects.

As well as front door solutions, SIEGENIA has also offered a number of motorised drives for windows and sliding doors for some time as part of their “Room Comfort” and more recently “360° Room Comfort” philosophy which aims to create comfortable, future-oriented living spaces that maximise well-being, security and universal accessibility.

“Smart house” exhibit showcased new products

As per their tradition of not relying on their established products, SIEGENIA product development has been continually innovating to create a variety of new smart products which were demonstrated in a smart house exhibit on their stand at the FENSTERBAU window and door trade fair in Germany in March. New products on show included window solutions such as the DRIVE CL motor, smart window handle and smart sensor, as well as the DRIVE axxent LS concealed motorised drive for sliding doors which launches this summer. There were also sensor and app-controlled singleroom heat recovery ventilation units such as the AEROPLUS WRG smart and AEROTUBE WRG smart on show.

These products were connected with each other and even with external products such as lighting and heating to create “scenarios”, i.e. procedures that could be initiated via your phone when you leave or enter the home. Marco Nehren, Head of Product Management at SIEGENIA, said “The SIEGENIA central control has shown how the room comfort experience of a house or apartment can be enhanced. This also reflects the feedback from fabricators and retailers, who showed a lot of interest in marketing the system.”

If you would like to find out more about SIEGENIA’s smart products contact 024 7662 2000 or info-uk@siegenia.com.
