RESEARCH LIBRARY FRIEDENSTEIN Extension of the Forschungsbibliothek Gotha with emphasis on the design of a new archive in the historical context of the château.

Bachelor thesis chair: Entwerfen und komplexe Gebäudelehre tutors: Prof. Jörg Springer Sebastian Schröter Martin Pasztori Manuel Aust Over the years the valuable collection of the research library in Go-

04

tha grew too big for the eastern tower. As a consequence a new archive is needed, accompanied by public spaces for the urban society, places of discourse and encounter. The design envisages to form a first courtyard, prelude and nodal point for further orientation, framed by a colonnade, that constitutes a threshold when approaching the

château. Situated at the edge of the slope are the parlour, café and event space, unfurling towards the colonnade, gazing across the rosary. Between the new colonnade and the old arcade the archive arises, positioning itself between the towers as an elaborate object, diffuse and manifold, independent and still selfevident in the new ensemble.

temple, the cradle of Liberal Judaism, are left to one’s own device. The design restores their significance and creates a new, visible place of Jewish life in the city, by laying bare the ruins and transforming the former interior into a garden, transmitting a unique calmness and reverie. The portal building becomes the link, the facilitator

between plaza and garden, incorporating the parlour as a place of discussion. The prayer room constitutes the completion of an axis starting in the street space, guarding the apsis, the formerly most sacred spot. As an ensemble a place arises for study, celebration, communication, encounters, and contemplation.

2019/20 | Bachelor 3rd semester | HOW TO LIVE TOGETHER

HOW TO LIVE TOGETHER a house with many rooms The Studio provides an introduction into the architecture of housing by the means of a description and detailed graphic display of selected housing spaces in Weimar. The examination of these Intérieurs, dissolved away from their original context, leads to new perceptions, which substantiate in an independent design. The plot for a multi-storey residential building with many rooms is located in direct proximity to the campus. The standard floor is designed as a shared apartment. Particular attention is paid to the relation of the rooms to each other and the reconfiguration of intermediary rooms, adaptable to particular needs. 2018 | Bachelor 1st semester | PATH AND RHYTHM

PATH AND RHYTHM Translation and rhythmizing of a path into abstract forms

Architectural Design Studio 1 chair: Bauformenlehre Darstellungsmethodik tutors: Prof. Bernd Rudolf Prof. Andreas Kästner Martin Ahner

36

Path and rhythm are systems of individual and repetitive elements along a line. Different rhythms, even and uneven, in intervals and chords, pulsate, shaped by inner and outer influence. Elements, that appear along a certain path add up and over-

lap each other. They get translated into dots, stripes and plains and are composed into one piece, which then finds its expression in a three-dimensional, abstract sculpture. A composition, that interconnects different parameters to one unity.
