Life Reflections

With loving hearts, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Gaylon Jerome Montjoy, a man of unparalleled drive, humor, and resilience, who touched countless lives through his infectious personality and unwavering ambition. Affectionately known as “Jerome”, Gaylon made his transition on January 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Born on September 25, 1951, in Elkhart, Indiana, to James Blackful Jr. and Barbara Montjoy, Gaylon embodied the spirit of determination from a young age. He was raised with the guidance and love of his stepfather, Dan McDowell Jr., and grew up alongside his siblings, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime.

Gaylon’s entrepreneurial spirit shined throughout his life. As a co-owner of Dependable Ambulance, he demonstrated his commitment to helping others. His service in the National Guard exemplified his sense of duty and pride. In the mid-to-late 1970s, he owned a successful medical center and later became a top performer for a prestigious medical supply company

A true visionary and elite salesman, Gaylon’s career in the automotive industry was nothing short of remarkable. From sales at Bob Watson Chevrolet and other dealerships to sales floor manager at Bob Watson Motorsports, he earned a reputation as a skilled and creative leader. His larger-than-life personality made him the life of the party, and his humor, wit, and resilience endeared him to all who knew him.

Life Reflections

Gaylon’s passions included motorcycle riding on his Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson, spending time on his yacht, enjoying sweets (especially cookies), and sharing moments with his family and friends. He loved Cadillacs, fine jewelry, and flexing his accomplishments while watching his family succeed. A true family man, he was deeply protective of and devoted to his loved ones. Gaylon's faith led him to become a member of New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church where he strengthened his spiritual foundation and connection with his community.

Gaylon was preceded in death by his father, James Blackful Jr.; his mother, Barbara Montjoy; his stepfather, Dan McDowell Jr.; his maternal siblings Kiwanis and Carl; and his beloved son, Adam.

He is survived by his maternal siblings Kevin (Daphne), Susan, Dan III, and Hancey and his paternal siblings Sharon, Brenda, Pamela, Wanda, and Jaime (Mark).

Gaylon’s legacy lives on through his children: Letika, Shawn, Gaylon Jevon (Tiffany), Marlo (Noelle), Darrell, Gayla Chanel (David); and the memory of Adam.

He also leaves his cherished grandchildren: Adam Jr., Alayah, Alijah, Aliyah, Angel, Angelo, Ashley, Halo, Hassani, Jordan, Kamrin, Keleel, Kennedy, Lola, London, Makai, and Marlo Jr.

Gaylon’s memory will forever be celebrated by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, ambition, and protective spirit will remain with us always.

Gaylon’s life is honored as a remarkable man who truly lived life to the fullest.

Rest in power, Jerome. Your legacy of love and resilience will never be forgotten.
