JULY 2018

FIRST ENGLISH EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH

Dear Brothers and Sisters, We soon will be celebrating the freedom we enjoy as a nation. Liberty and life that was recognized in the Declaration of Independence as coming not from human beings, nor from government but from our Creator. The Constitution was written not to give us rights that we did not have but to limit a central government in its scope and prevent it from attempting to lay claim to the authority of those rights which are given by God.

However, we have seen through the years that a nation, even as great as the one in which we live, only can reveal the shadow of the life God intends for all His people. We know that life in the kingdom of God, the life for which we have but a foretaste in this world, is a far brighter place where there is no suffering, no pain, no tears. A life we will share in its perfection when Christ Jesus returns. In this penultimate time between what is and what will be we join together in the body of Christ, as workers in the kingdom at hand and the kingdom come to bear light in the darkness, revive hope in those places that despair and demonstrate not a political will but the will of the One who has brought salvation for all people. Like those men and women who courageously took a stand to bring about our nations freedom, we too, are called to take stand firmly in the gospel of salvation. Empowered by the Holy Spirit to go out to confront the forces of evil, proclaim sight to the blind and freedom to the captive. We seek to do the works that God has set before us, to speak the word that He has put in our hearts that whether they believe or not they will know that the kingdom of God has come near. We have youth who will be going to National Youth Gathering to grow in faith and serve the people in the Houston area. We will have the opportunity to help build a park and do work on two houses with people in Detroit who are making their neighborhood a place that reflects God’s love for the people in their community. We will be working with Samaritas to improve their family crisis facility so that families who find themselves without a place to go will have housing until they are able to get back on their feet. This is in addition to all the mission work we are currently doing.

Brian Heaphy entered life eternal on May 30, 2018 “None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.” Romans 14:7-8

Alpheus David Conger, b. May 12, 2018, received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on June 10, 2018. His parents are Renata and David Conger. Sponsors are Bianca Avolio and Timothy Hubmeier. Welcome to the Lord’s family.

How to ensure we have a healthy Supply Room My name is Jackie Tambourine and I am on the Board of Fellowship. It is currently my responsibility to keep the pantry stocked, but I need your help. (Just a side note, I am a little OCD when it comes to being organized.) If you have an upcoming event and require utensils, plates, cups, etc. please send me an email (jackee206@aol.com) with the date, what you need and the quantity. I will pull what you need and let you know where it's at. Lastly, if you do take something out of the pantry and it looks like we are running short, there is a list of supplies posted. Please mark what's needed and either give to Sue in the office, or put it on her desk. The two of us will then place an order. By doing this, it will eliminate scrambling to get supplies. Thank you and have a blessed day. Jackie
