In Johnson City, home of President Lyndon B. Johnson, you can visit the LBJ National Historic Park visitor’s center and the former president’s boyhood home. Sail above the hills — The Fault Line Flyers, a soaring club, takes off from a field in Briggs. The organization offers introductory rides the first Saturday of the month (weather permitting) from $60-$80. Experience a shootout — Have you ever wondered what it was like to get caught in a gunfight? Well here’s your chance. The Burnet Gunfighters dress in period costumes and put on a Wild West show at 1:30 p.m. Saturdays, weather permitting and based on the train schedule for the Hill Country Flyer. The guns keep cracking during the 20-minute fight at the Old Burnet Town on League Street one block from Jackson Street, east of the Courthouse on the Square. Explore an old jail — The Llano Red Top Jail, located one block east of Ford Street (Texas 16 and Texas 71) off the square in Llano, offers a peek into how the sheriff and inmates operated in yesteryear. Built in 1895, the jail served well into the 20th century before the local authorities moved to a more modern structure. The rumor is that the Red Top Jail is home to a a ghost or two.
