“Power of Community Celebration” to focus on accomplishments By Carole J Greene
T
he beauty of the word “community” comes from its ability to contract or expand to encompass a variety of definitions. A “literary community” may be a tiny group of readers who devour books and book reviews. A “community of nations” could expand to include nearly 200 countries worldwide. Likewise, when we talk about “the Jewish community,” the definition may contract to a handful of families who start a new congregation. It may expand to take in every Jew everywhere in the world. Now, let’s talk about “power.” This word can mean a talent, an attribute, a gift. Or it can mean strength, might, vitality. Combine “power” and “commu-
nity” and you have a group of likeminded people who together become awesome in terms of strengths, prowess, talents and gifts. That pretty much defines Jewish Federation of Collier County. Although our local community embraces about 12,000 Jews in two Southwest Florida counties, our reach extends to millions of Jews everywhere in the world. On Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples, our Federation will come together in a “Power of Community Celebration.” An elegant cocktail reception will open the festivities, followed by dinner, entertainment and an enticing program focused on what we are able to accomplish when we harness the power of community.
“A Return to the Catskills” review, starring comedian Freddie Roman, will provide the entertainment portion of the evening. Freddie co-wrote and starred in the stage show Catskills on Broadway. He has appeared in several films and recently took on a co-starring role in Red Oaks, an Amazon Studios sitcom featuring cast members Paul Reiser, Jennifer Grey and Richard Kind. It’s a comedy about a Jewish country club in New Jersey. In addition, Freddie Roman is the Dean of the New York Friars Club. Invitations to the “Power of Community Celebration” will arrive in your mailbox by early December. Couvert is $150 per person. Appropriate dress will be cocktail attire.
