The new Ploiesti brake pad factory extends Federal-Mogul’s global braking coverage 4

Federal-Mogul acquired Honeywell Friction in 2012, shortly after the Ploiesti factory had opened in Romania. The 14,666m2 factory employs 269 people and further expansion is planned this year, with the addition of a new line for passenger vehicles and one for commercial vehicles. Once these lines come into operation the factory’s capacity will increase by 75%.

A GROWING CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Ploiesti has developed into a hub of foreign investment and has attracted a substantial number of automotive companies. The workforce is highly educated and they have standards which are acknowledged to be world-class.

Federal-Mogul Friction Products Ploiesti is one of the most advanced plants in the sector and produces parts which meet the high standards required by Europe’s most demanding manufacturers. The factory has had ISO TS 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 certification since 2013 and an excellent track record of high technology in manufacturing. In addition to quality, the factory is highly productive.

There are plans to extend the range of parts it produces with the addition of a line for commercial vehicle disc brake pads in 2015.

The Volvo Quality Excellence (VQE) award is presented by Volvo to suppliers who excel in quality and manufacturing disciplines. The award assesses the supplier’s manufacturing process and systems capability, on-going performance and plant impact.

A range of criteria are considered before the award is given, and the Ploiesti factory achieved its success with no line stoppages, zero defects and 100% OTTR (On Time To Requirement) delivery. The brake pads manufactured at Ploiesti are OE-quality service replacements for vehicles using Volvo’s P2 platform, which includes the S60, S80 and V70 models.

New test center facility in Belgium

In April, Federal-Mogul Motorparts had celebrated the opening of its new test laboratory for sealing, engine, filters and chassis components based in Kontich, Belgium. This new facility is the latest investment done by the aftermarket supplier and demonstrates its dedication to providing high-quality products to its customers.

The laboratory supports the company’s global test facilities, undertaking engineering, product validation, quality control and competitive benchmarking. This will provide more than 5,000 additional test hours per annum, enabling its sealing, engine, filters and chassis component designs to be tested to the highest standards.

Validation trials make sure that new products meet Federal-Mogul’s high-quality standards while the laboratory’s test equipment enables the warranty team to analyze parts in the field.

Competitive testing assures that Federal-Mogul Motorparts continues to develop market leading products.
