It was through this man, Mr. Berson, a compassionate, caring, nian, that I found my love for Key Club. He would go on to encourage me to run for a member in my freshman year, and a secretary in my sophomore year, I came to out inclusivity, service, selflessness, and passion. More than just hours or the ability to , Key Club was all about giving back—giving back to the community, to the elders, Club was about serving others, teaching the youth, developing amazing leadership njoying oneself and having fun with people of all backgrounds. In the past 9 months of Division 25B for the Florida District of Key Club International, I have gained from ve never otherwise been a part of, if it wasn’t for Mr. Berson and the Kiwanis Club of confidence and leadership qualities have grown in ways I would’ve never expected. d learned about my local community’s needs and how I can attend to them. And I e having fun and doing what I love. I found a passion for activism and advocacy nvinced that I have grown to be a better leader, a better listener, and most imporuse of Key Club.

executive comm EXECUTIVE COMM Stara D’Haiti District Governor Greetings Leaders of the Mighty, Mighty Florida District, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! I also hope you had a good experience in wrapping up the first semester of the school year. As we move forward into this new year (and new decade, I know it’s 2020—I can’t believe it), we have much to look forward to!

In the upcoming months, make sure to plan accordingly to attend both Spring Zone Rally and DCON. Spring Zone Rallies (SZRs) are one of the most important events of the year. In addition to educational workshops, you will have the chance to listen to candidates running for higher office on the district and international level. You will also elect your new Lieutenant Governor! If you are considering running for higher office next year (which I highly encourage on all levels), make sure to contact the current holder of the position to gain insight on the demands and responsibilities of the position. It is important you become knowledgeable about what you are stepping into. Remember, paperwork is due no later than one week before your first campaigning SZR, and you must ask permission to attend from the Zone Administrators. Please be mindful of these scheduled deadlines and reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns, I would love to help!

Additionally, ensure your club holds their officer elections if possible prior to your Spring Zone Rally, and most definitely at least before DCON. Speaking of DCON, I hope to see many of you from April 2-5 at conference for a weekend of fun and celebration in which officers will receive training and we will vote on and install our newly elected officers. Registration for this year’s magical conference is currently live and closes on February 19th. Please make sure to register by then and reach out to our DCON Committee at dcon@floridakeyclub.org if you have any questions.

Lastly, we are also continuing in our work towards our membership goals as a district. As the year continues, I encourage you to reach for your goals and participate in Kiwanis as a whole. Key Club’s Preferred Charities are Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, UNICEF, and March of Dimes. Information regarding all our international partners is on our website at https://floridakeyclub.org/service-major-emphasis/. Make sure to check it out to see how you can get involved! Key Club International’s Vision Partners are Landscape Structures Inc., Nickelodeon, The US Army, Thirst Project, Up with People, Squads Abroad, and Kiwanis Gives Online. I also encourage you all to continue involving yourselves in my Governor’s Project, Generation Green. It was a great pleasure seeing you all participate in Governor’s Project Week this past month! Keep up the phenomenal work you have been doing this year and as usual, as you complete for service projects, meetings, and other events, please send pictures and videos to the Marketing and Public Relations Committee (marketing@floridakeyclub.org). It is my hope that these spotlights will serve as a source of inspiration for you and your clubs as we begin the transition into the next service year. I have been fortunate to review a number of your newsletters, and I am continually blown away by your creativity and designs—let’s finish the year off strong. February’s Pride Report is due on the 5th of March. Please remind your clubs of this changed due date. It is so crazy that this Key Club year has so quickly come so close to the end. The Generations Project: Division Generations Project Game Day—on this day, leaders of Division 25A of Key Club visited Susanna Wesley Healthcare Center and played board games and interacted with the residents. I will always remember this day as one of the most meaningful ones in my Lieutenant Governor term because Rosa, the lady right behind me, grabbed my hand as we were already leaving the facility and told me in Spanish: "We have never had this much fun in years, God bless you all." Those words marked my life forever and made me remember why we do what we do as Key Clubbers.

The picture to the left is from the Generations Proje Karaoke Day. On this day, leaders from Division 2 participated on interacting and singing to the eld of this community healthcare center. Since it w around Christmas, we focused on singing Christm carols and filling them with the holiday spirit. There, the lady who usually takes care of t residents during the day, reads it to them and sen me emails with some of their responses. Also, I se them Christmas/New Year’s cards that we made our November DCM so they could be reminded how grateful Key Club is for their service througho their entire lives. The Generations Project has n only been an LTG project for me, it has been eye-opening experience that I’ll definitely ne forget. This is why, I plan to work with the incom Lieutenant Governor for the 2020-2021 service ye to keep the Generations Project alive as my lega for Division 25A, which I will always carry in my he

Since I was little, I’ve always had a strong affection for the elderly population. I’ve always noticed the lack of attention and credit people receive when they get to a certain age. It’s sort of when you hit a certain period in your life, people don’t see you as a contribution to their lives or the community anymore. Once I became Lieutenant Governor of Division 25A in Key Club, I saw the opportunity to demonstrate the elderly population in my community how much they mean to the generation of young leaders that I belong to. This is how the Generations Project was born. It is an attempt to make the elderly feel loved and appreciated, for them to know how much they’ve influenced the community in which we live in today, and how grateful we are for that. It focuses on bringing joy and appreciation to those elders living in public healthcare centers. I always try to organize interactive and fun activities that make them have a great time and enjoy the little moments of life. The whole purpose is for our actions to inspire them to keep on going and to show them that they still have a purpose and a meaning in today’s society.

Dance For A Chance

Dance For A Chance is a completely student-led initiative that organizes a dance marathon to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children. We work to organize a dance marathon where 100% of our proceeds raised directly supports Shriners. We connect with our community to obtain business sponsorships, in-kind food donations, decorations, shirts, lighting, and DJs. For those not familiar with Shriners, it focuses on treating a wide range of pediatric orthopedic conditions and the services are provided regardless of the families' ability to pay.

This year, the money we raised specifically helped support their custom wheelchair lab. I am beyond proud to report that our amazing, hard working committee not only exceeded our goal of 350 attendees, but we also raised over $75,000 to help the Shriners kids and their families! Our big event, held on Saturday, November 9, was a blast. The music was pumping, the lights were flashing, and people were dancing all night. I can confidently say the night was a success (look at pictures)!

With my Co-Presidents (Avery Mills and Haley Harris), we all agree that Dance For A Chance has been one of the most meaningful experiences of our high school careers: it has been intense, all consuming, exciting, stressful, infinitely rewarding, and most definitely a learning experience.

Cayman Islands Triple C School Key Club hosted a Home Room Thanksgiving Drive competition to see who could donate the most food for charity throughout the month of November in hope of winning an ice cream party. Members’ boxed up the donations and sent them off to the Foodbank and NCVO.

Major Emphasis & Key A Message from the Service and Major Emphasis Committee The Service and Major Emphasis Committee focuses on the definition of a service hour and educates fellow Key Clubbers of our partnered service organizations such as March of Dimes, UNICEF, and Children’s Miracle Network to fulfill the Major Emphasis: “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” While planning a major service project, this committee can be of assistance to any and all Key Clubbers. This is done by providing the tools and information of each partnered service organization continuously and effectively through avid communication and resource availability.

Wondering How To Get Involved?

As the service year progresses, it is important that along with smaller, divisional projects, our District takes an interest in participating with our partners in service. On the member and club level, you can help to do your part, raising funds for Trick or Treat for UNICEF. You can do this by ordering boxes for yourself and club to do your part to make children’s lives better all across the world!

y Club Service Partners UNICEF is the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children.

Working with other United Nations bodies, governments and non-governmental organizations, UNICEF helps to provide for children’s needs in more than 150 developing countries through community-based services in primary health care, basic education and safe water and sanitation.

Since the 1940s, Key Clubs have worked with March of Dimes to make a positive impact in the lives of babies everywhere. Today, Kiwanis members continue that culture of service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long by hosting service projects, raising funds and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth.

Members work together by sponsoring fundraising events and conducting service projects at their local children's hospitals. Contact your local CMN hospital and invite a representative to a club meeting to share ideas and create a partnership.
