EXECUTIVE COMM Stara D’Haiti District Governor Hello Leaders of the Mighty, Mighty Florida District, I know, I can’t believe it either: how has summer already passed?? Despite the time running out on the summer 2019 hourglass, I hope you all have had a great summer. These past few months of my term, I have been able to successfully transition the Florida District into the 2019-20 service and leadership year. I cannot wait to fully immerse myself into goals this year to ultimately reach you all as members. The District Board has been exposed to a multitude of trainings and resources, all which function to equip us with the tools necessary to help your clubs succeed. I cannot wait to see all we accomplish this year. The Florida District has also recently returned from the 2019 Key Club International Convention (ICON), where we represented our mighty, mighty district well in Baltimore, Maryland. Our district was rewarded with several accolades on the international level, which will be highlighted in this edition of The Sunshine Source, and one of our very own Alexis Henry, was elected as an International Trustee. Cheers to an amazing year of service!

Be sure to attend next year’s International Convention in San Francisco, California, July 1-5, 2020. Our district will host a unique and unforgettable tour of San Francisco alongside the convention. ICON has been an amazing experience for me over the past two years; from making new friends to winning awards, I hope to spend my last one with you all in the Bay Area next July!

My Governor’s Project, Generation Green, aims to promote environmental success through service, advocacy, and action. My inspiration for this project stems from my personal experiences with climate change and a sense of urgency to combat the matter. This platform’s purpose will ensure everyone is well informed and educated on the different aspects that make up environmentalism, provide active service to combat ecological hardship, and assist those who fall vulnerable to adversity as a result of natural disasters. I encourage you all to involve yourselves with this project throughout the year and plan service accordingly. Our service goal for the 2019-2020 year is 330,000 hours with 10,000 of those hours dedicated to Generation Green. I have confidence in our district to not only meet but exceed this goal. Reach out to your Lieutenant Governors for a plethora of resources across the spectrum. I wish you all a tremendous summer and successful transition into the new school year. Thank you.

Throughout these last few months of my term, I have truly enjoyed every single second; whether that is responding to your emails or creating issues of The Sunshine Source, I’m continually amazed by what we are able to accomplish as a district. Speaking of which, we have achieved record readership of The Sunshine Source, and this of course, would not be possible without all of you! Please continue sharing this publication and sending me pictures of your events. I cannot wait to watch everyone blossom and succeed this service year. Aamir Lacewala District Treasurer As you may know (or not know), I’ve been your District Teasurer for a little under four months, and I have LOVED it. So far my job has mainly included understanding Key Club’s complex finances and budget and planning for a successful school year. I have many goals for our year, and I need your help to achieve them. We all win when we plan the events ahead of time, budget our income and expenses, and prepare for our FLOF applications. I have had a chance to meet this year’s entire board, and I personally believe we are in the perfect position to make a giant impact. As always, everything we do on this board is to help our members, our clubs, and our service, so please reach out to me for any help at all. Thank you all!

ICON Recap From July 3rd through July 10th, 2019, the Florida District attended the Key Club International Convention, or ICON, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland as well as its own organized Florida Tour, which included travels to Washington, D.C. This year, the Florida District brought 52 attendees to ICON where they got to engage in immersive workshops, elect next year’s International Board, attend talent shows and recognition sessions, and so much more, all the while exploring the city of Baltimore. Our district saw talent show performances from our very own Division 18 Lieutenant Governor, Joey Chen, and Executive Assistant, Sarah Mellinger. Additionally, Immediate Past Division 12 Lieutenant Governor Alexis Henry was elected to the office of International Trustee. Our district was also awarded 1st Place for Total Fundraising for The Eliminate Project, raising $43,068.25, and 3rd Place for the Non-Traditional Scrapbook Contest, going to Hialeah Gardens Senior High School! International Trustee Introduction Dear Florida District, I want to first thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you all. I am honored to work with such an amazing group of leaders. I want to next say how cute I think each and every one of you are and tell you that I love you. I should probably also introduce myself. My name is Aminhan Lobster, and I have to pleasure of being your 2019-2020 International Trustee. I am a rising senior at Liberty High School in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. Not only do I look forward to growing closer to the Florida District this year, but I look forward to making waves in the Sunshine State. This year you are paired with the lovely Bahamas District and the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District. This year I would like to facilitate interaction between the sister districts so we can learn from each other. I have gotten the opportunity to serve as this year's International Opportunities Committee Chair, so I will be working heavily towards incentives such as YOF, Eliminate, and the revitalization of the Key Club alumni-network. Not only will I be focusing on my committee, but I want to help others realize the true importance of Key Club. We are simultaneously an international and global organization and an organization that focuses on making the local community around us better, so I want to encourage grassroot movement that starts in our own backyards. Then using the knowledge you have learned, I want you to take to places such as ICON, so the ripple you have made in your communities can make a wave worldwide. Again I'm so excited to work with the Florida District; if you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to reach out. Key Club Kickoff Conference (KCKC) Logistics Key Club Kickoff Conference, or KCKC, is a conference held by your zone to welcome or “kickoff” the new school year! may On May 17th, a few members from the Triple C Key Club paid a lovely visit to the Pines Retirement Home. They sang songs and made many new friends during their visit.

To kick off their summer service, a few Key Clubbers from Triple C volunteered at the Church of God's Vacation Bible School in July! They assisted with crafts, games, music, and many other aspects. To end the week of service, a few also came out to assist with the Church's Family Funday.

n May 26th, the Key Clubbers of the ayman Prep & High Key Club helped MA (Cayman Islands Monetary Auority) host their 5/10K run. The Key ubbers covered five different stans over the two courses and gave t water for the runners.

Cayman Prep & High School’s final event of the academic year was their annual book drive that took place over a 2 week period. They raised over 1,500 books for LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone) which included recycled textbooks and reading books. LIFE is an organisation that helps schools and library's who aren't as fortunate to re-use books and textbooks donated from other schools.

Major Emphasis & Key A Message from the Service and Major Emphasis Committee The Service and Major Emphasis Committee focuses on the definition of a service hour and educates fellow Key Clubbers of our partnered service organizations such as March of Dimes, UNICEF, and Children’s Miracle Network to fulfill the Major Emphasis: “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” While planning a major service project, this committee can be of assistance to any and all Key Clubbers. This is done by providing the tools and information of each partnered service organization continuously and effectively through avid communication and resource availability.

As the service year progresses, it is important that along with smaller, divisional projects, our District takes an interest in participating with our partners in service. On the member and club level, you can help to do your part, raising funds for Trick or Treat for UNICEF. You can do this by ordering boxes for yourself and club to do your part to make children’s lives better all across the world!

y Club Service Partners UNICEF is the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children.

Working with other United Nations bodies, governments and non-governmental organizations, UNICEF helps to provide for children’s needs in more than 150 developing countries through community-based services in primary health care, basic education and safe water and sanitation.

Since the 1940s, Key Clubs have worked with March of Dimes to make a positive impact in the lives of babies everywhere. Today, Kiwanis members continue that culture of service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long by hosting service projects, raising funds and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth.

Members work together by sponsoring fundraising events and conducting service projects at their local children's hospitals. Contact your local CMN hospital and invite a representative to a club meeting to share ideas and create a partnership.

More than money Trick -Or-Treat for UNICEF is a campaign Key Club International participates in to help raise money for The Eliminate Project. The Eliminate Project is a partnership between Kiwanis International and UNICEF dedicated to eradicating Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) worldwide. Maternal Neonatal Tetanus is a deadly disease that still exists in 13 countries, and steals the lives of 35,040 babies annually alongside with a signi�icant number of women. However, such a deadly disease is easily preventable. In the past, it only took a $1.80 save the life of a mother and children, but now the price has increased to $3.00.

This increase is due to UNICEF needing additional funds to reach women in less accessible areas after years of success. This sum of money is still incredibly affordable, and accounts for a life, which is much more valuable than $3.00. Donating gives more than money, it gives life. It creates smiles, memories, and bonds between a mother and child. In 2015, The Florida District of Key Club International pledged to raise $250,000 for The Eliminate Project. We are in the last year of our pledge, and as of May, we have $66,818.29 left to raise. It is important that the totality of The Florida District of Key Club begins fundraising now.

Gov Governor Stara D’Haiti’s project is Generation Green. It is aimed at combating Climate Change by engaging in hands-on and impactful service, participating in advocacy, and taking direct action by assisting those who fall vulnerable to adversity regarding natural disasters. As the school year picks up, it is the perfect time to participate in the Governor’s Project. We highly encourage you to get involved as soon as possilbe! Some projects include: beach cleanups, volunteering at your local environmental center, and planting gardens.

FLOF & YOF The Florida Opportunity Fund (FLOF) is a grant for service projects available only in the Florida District of Key Club International.

FLOF can give clubs up to 2/3 the money necessary for service projects; however, schools must provide 1/3 of the amount they wish to receive. The amount of money you can get ranges from $100 to $1,000. Your club must be in good standing, meaning they have submitted most Pride Reports on time, completed the OIF, paid dues, and are active in service projects and divisional/district events.

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund of the Kiwanis Childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Fund which provides grants to Key Club members for scholarships and service opportunities. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify service that needs to be done in your school, community, or the world. Then apply for a grant. YOF grants are only given to Key Clubs and/or individual club members. Grants are not given to divisions or districts. Grant amounts between $100 to $2,000 may be requested. Applications must be submitted online by October 15 at 11:59 PM, EST. For more information and steps to apply visit:

Case of The Missing Hedgehog Zone Hâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s official mascot is Herbee the Hedgehog. He made an appearance at the first Divisional Council Meeting (DCM) of the year for Division 17. The DCM got interesting when Herbee went missing! Division 17 Lieutenant Governor Isabella Sanchez would like to thank everyone who helped look for Herbee. Thankfully, he was found, safe and sound!
