Editor’s Message Leaders of The Florida District, As the 2016-17 year comes to an end, I cant help but think about how proud I am of the Florida District. All of the events I see you participating in fills my heart with joy. I cannot wait to see you all at DCON so we can celebrate this past year together. In this issue, you can find helpful information on how your club can make it to DCON. Also included: club spotlights, important contact information, and other fun tidbits. Happy Serving! Yours in friendship and service, Jada Mohammed editor@floridakeyclub.org 305-588-7421

Greetings Florida and Cayman Island Key Clubbers, Happy New Year! I hope that 2017 is a healthy year full of service and fun for you and your families. I am also hopeful that you are ready to take advantage of all the wonderful things Key Club has to offer within your club and the district! There are many fun events coming up including District Conference and Spring Zone Rally. I can’t wait to meet you all at the rallies and see you again at the conference so be sure to register for both events early. The conferences provide great ways for club members and officers to be trained, gain ideas, and share the Key Club spirit!

The Florida District has done such a great job implementing this year’s Governor’s Project, Feeding Our Future. Together, we have completed nearly 30,000 hours working toward helping the hungry and homeless! Feeding Our Future Week was also a huge success so thank you to all the clubs who took part in it.

If your club is ever struggling to come up with service or fundraising ideas, I highly encourage you to check out the Documents & Resources Tab on our website. There are a plethora of great ideas that would apply to your club!

Yours in Service Always,

Martha Grace Hagan governormartha@floridakeyclub.org

William R. Boone A club submission

William R. Boone High School Key Club (Division 10B/Zone D) hosted a Tricycle Relay Race to race money for our Kiwanis Club and their annual Bike Build. We invited clubs/teachers to participate in a relay race where they would ride tricycles around a course on campus. Each team paid $20 to participate and the prize was a dozen donuts. We raised $160 for our Kiwanis club to buy bicycles for students at local elementary schools for Christmas.

Jesuit High School A club submission

Jesuit High School was asked by the Italian Consular Corps of Ybor City to provide seven students to act as ushers at their annual International Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony. During the event, ushers participated in a candle-lighting ceremony alongside six Holocaust survivors and Consuls from France, Canada, Greece, Germany, Spain, and Lithuania. The candle-lighting ceremony was a touching testimony to the survivors, liberators, and the six million innocent men, women, and children who were martyred for their Jewish faith. To be able to serve in such an emotional and meaningful ceremony was truly a humbling honor for Jesuit's Key Club.

DCON Awards

A message from the committee At DCON (District Education and Leadership Conference), you will have the opportunity to show off all of your talent and accomplishments from the 2016-2017 Key Club year by receiving awards on stage! These awards include distinguished member and officer distinctions, as well as club awards. Some can even allow you to qualify for a scholarship! Additionally, you also have the chance to show off your talent at our annual Talent Show and Oratorical Contest. To apply, just go to the District website at floridakeyclub.org/awards-and-contests and scroll down to the award or contest you are interested in applying for. Some do not require an application and go in terms of Pride Reports and the Annual Achievement Report. Do not forget to read the instructions thoroughly and submit the application correctly and on time. No applications turned in after the due date will be accepted.

Pre-DCON Awards must be submitted before March 7 at 11:59 p.m. and DCON awards on March 30 before 10:00 p.m. You definitely do not want to miss out of the opportunities of showcasing your talents and achievements at DCON. Good luck!
