My Key Club Story Haven Gray 2018-2021 Division 15B Lt. Governor

The start of my servant leadership journey began the way most good things do: with dessert. I was a freshman attending my first-ever DCON and had volunteered to help scoop ice cream for the Endowment Fund. While there, I was recruited by my division's LTG to be his successor. Soon enough, I was signing contracts & commitments that would lead to multiple weekends, endless deadlines, and countless after-school hours of planning & serving. Not even 24 hours later, I was standing on a stage before thousands of Key Clubbers, being sworn in as the LTG of Division 15B. When I was first appointed to the position of LTG in 2018, I felt like such a small piece of a much larger, and greater, picture. Whether it was through writing letters to residents under strict quarantine measures in nursing homes or wrapping presents for hundreds of underprivileged students at local elementary schools, I was able to see how each and every act of service had immeasurable worth and impact on the surrounding community. Even as the world shifted into its post-COVID-19 state, I continued to share with chapter presidents hundreds of opportunities to assist others from a safe distance, in a virtual environment.

Over my past three terms as LTG, I have learned that, when we all work together, we are able to make a greater difference in the lives of those around us. Along my path to being a servant leader, I have also discovered that my passion is to help children find their own paths to becoming change-makers. Experiences like these have become what truly drives me to lead a purpose-driven life of impacting others.

Joey Chen Leaders of the Mighty, Mighty Florida District

GOVERNOR

Wow, where did the time go? This is officially my last official address through the Sunshine Source publication, and I am so proud of all that our fantastic district has accomplished despite the COVID-19 pandemic. It has truly been an absolute pleasure and honor serving as your 2020-2021 District Governor! As we reflect on the past few weeks, it is very sad to conclude that this service year has come to a close; however, we can celebrate the commencement of a new year of leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. Thank you all for the most magical DCON ever, and I send my best wishes to the new 2021-2022 District Board!

As you all have probably heard many times before, our world was faced with a very unprecedented situation this past year. The COVID-19 pandemic changed in-person Divisional Council Meeting to breakout rooms on Zoom and beach clean-ups to playing Free Rice online. The digitalization of our service year definitely proved to be challenging at first. However, it is important to note how our district overcame those initial setbacks and still continued forth with passion, determination, and care. As I have said many times before, Key Clubbers are the epitome of perseverance, and you all should be incredibly proud of yourselves.

I want to commend you all for all your achievements during the 2020-2021 service year; Key Club would not have survived with YOU! For the 2020-2021 service year, we have chartered 9 new Key Clubs plus other newly chartered branches of the Kiwanis Family; reached 13,247 members; completed 122,812 total service hours; launched our renovated Florida Key Club website; implemented new district initiatives including the Treasurer's Keys To Your Future Workshops, ELIMINATE Telethon, District-wide KCKC Officer Training Webinars, Builder's Club Pen Pal System, Member Representatives on District Committees, a new DCON registration system, and more; and donated over $13,528 to The Eliminate Project. Thank you all so much for committing time to go above and beyond for our goals — no matter how far-reaching they seemed.

I also possess a tremendous amount of gratitude for your enthusiastic engagement with my Keys For Kids Governor's Project: a youth-focused initiative to empower a generation of life-long leaders and unlock a better future by showing kindness, encouraging leadership, making connections, and supporting children in need. From reading children's books to chalking up sidewalks to making freshman survival kits, seeing your online service throughout the entire year and Governor's Project week was beyond inspiring. I want to thank you all for 29,526 Governor's Project Service Hours. You, as a Key Clubber and as a leader, absolutely can leave an indelible legacy. You can be the officer that encourages that shy Freshman to speak up and maybe even run for a leadership position. I encourage you all to continue in this commitment to helping those around you.

For my underclassman, I hope that you all take the opportunity to continue your journeys in Key Club, whether it be on the club, district, or international level. Your dedication is what keeps Key Club alive and thriving. For my Class of 2025 seniors, I know you all are probably burnt out and tired with senioritis (at this point, I am a bit too), but I ask that you keep working hard. This goes for everyone: I hope that your service to the world will not end with Key Club — you all are extraordinary and impactful people. Please take your motivation in your Key Club pursuits and continue to share your love for helping others in college and beyond!

I sincerely wish you all the best on your leadership journeys, and I leave you all with my kindest regards. Angela Nguyen Hello Leaders of the Florida District,

I hope you all are well and have wrapped up the service year! It is sad to see how quickly this year has gone by, but the memories, lessons, and friendships you have made from Key Club will carry with you throughout your life. Looking back, I still remember so many fantastic experiences and thinking about them makes me feel very nostalgic. Because of this, please take the time you have left to do the most you can to impact your home, school, and community. I am so excited that I saw many of you at DCON, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have any questions!

Reminders for the Keymunnity System and DCON: 2021-2022 Keymunnity System: The Keymunnity System is now open to submit 2021-2022 Officer Information Forms (OIFs). Please keep in mind that having the new OIFs submitted will aid your division's next Lieutenant Governor with communication and provide them with an excellent start to the service year. Due to this, please submit your club's OIFs and host officer elections as soon as possible.

Club Officer Elections: As this service year ends, time will fly, and the end of the school year will arrive soon (especially with exams). Because of this, it is crucial that your club completes its club officer elections sooner rather than later. I recommend that your club starts promoting officer elections now, and here are some of my tips for successful elections: Encourage club members to run for club officer positions through posters, emails, and promotions on social media.

Hold officer elections in March.

Refer to “How to Host Virtual Elections“ Youtube video by the Legal, Elections, and Credentials Committee.

Plan and prepare for your club election so that the process is conducted efficiently and correctly.

Farewell Remarks: Thank you for reading the March edition of The Sunshine Source. Additionally, I am sad that this service year has ended, but I am thankful to have ended my Key Club experience with such an amazing group of Key Club members. You are all motivating and hard-working leaders, and I thank you for persisting throughout this entire COVID-19 pandemic. This year has been the most difficult one yet, but I know that better days will come soon. Finally, please always stay safe and healthy!

Hello amazing Key Clubbers!

I hope you are all doing well! While I was happy to see you all at DCON, I can’t help to be sad that the end of my term has come! Nevertheless, I am super thankful and honored to have served as your District Treasurer. Taking on this role has developed my character in so many ways, be it on an emotional, social, or intellectual level, and for that I cannot be more thankful to the Florida, Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos Districts for allowing me to lead with such a position. I encourage everyone to run for higher office, whether it is on a club, district, or even international level—I’m confident that you won’t regret it!

On another note, I did want to give a final wave of updates and reminders. Though the regular dues deadline has passed, please keep in mind that you can still pay your dues! Please make sure to do so since it opens up many opportunities for you in the future, including running for higher office, voting at zone rallies, being eligible for scholarships, and applying for FLOF! If you attended DCON (both virtual or in-person) I hope you had a fun, reflective time ending the 2020-2021 service year. This publication will be my last to you, but I am confident that my successor will have even better publications! I encourage you to continue reading The Sunshine Source, or spread the word to your incoming officers. Although just a few digital pages, it can do a lot to make us feel closer together.

Arianna Longo Hello Florida, Turks & Caicos, and Cayman Island Leaders!

GOVERNOR

My name is Arianna Longo and I am honored to be elected as your 2021-2022 Florida District Governor! I am currently a Junior at Palmetto High School in Division 17, which is Zone H. Last year I had the privilege to serve as the Executive Assistant for the Florida District and I could not be happier to serve as your District Governor for this service year! I love to bake cheesecake, drink boba, read, and serve my home, school, and community.

My Governor’s Project is called PLAN for a Better Future. This is a youth and peer-oriented project that focuses on building a strong foundation through proper tools and encouragement so the youth can write their stories. My project will focus on 3 key initiatives for a successful future: Physical Fitness, Love, and Nutrition. From now until August, we will specifically be focusing on the physical fitness initiative. The overall goal is to encourage our youth and peers to enjoy outdoor activities and make it fun! Here are some examples of service projects: Making dog toys and delivering them to your local animal shelter Helping with your schools sporting events or local 5K runs Work with March of Dimes And much more! Get creative with your projects!

My name is Lindsay Stagnitto and I am so excited to be serving as your 2021-2022 District Secretary! I previously served as the Division 26C Lieutenant Governor and Membership Development Committee Co-Chair. I can’t wait to work with you!

My platform SAY aims to increase Pride Report and Officer Information Form submission, assist clubs with the Keymmunity system, and connect secretaries across the Florida District. I will do this by sending monthly newsletters, working individually with secretaries, creating a google drive with helpful resources, and much more. I am looking forward to helping our district grow!

Ben Zapson Hello Leaders of the Mighty Mighty Florida District,

TREASURER

My name is Ben Zapson and I am proud to have been elected as your District Treasurer! I am honored to have been given the opportunity to serve this amazing District and I hope to do you proud. In regards to what I plan to do, I plan to finally have an online store for the Florida District set up, bring up our amount of dues paid clubs and members (as they greatly decreased this past year due to COVID), and educate all of you on a variety of topics including but not limited to FLOF/YOF, the importance of dues, FDKC scholarships, and general financial literacy topics. This past year has been a hard one on the District and on each one of us but I am determined to make this upcoming year as incredible as possible!!!

Anyways, a little bit about who I am outside of Key Club. I am a rising junior at Olympic Heights High School (Go Lions!) in Division 21, Zone G; and, I am proud to say that I served as the LTG for that fantastic Division this past year. In my free time, I love to read books, especially fantasy, so if you have any recommendations I would love to hear them. If enough people reach out with recommendations I would love to start an FDKC book club! As far as favorite TV shows and movies of mine, I love Brooklyn 99 (which I believe is better than The Office), the MCU, Lucifer, and Schitt's Creek. I am in a few other clubs at school (though they all pale in comparison to Key Club) and I play on my school's tennis team. However, as I mentioned before I love to read and that is my favorite pass time.

Some other miscellaneous information includes that: my favorite color is blue, my zodiac sign is Sagittarius (a lot of Key Club people are into astrology apparently), my birthday is December 5th, my favorite season is winter, I love designs with the night sky (part of the reason why I like winter is because of the longer nights), I have an adorable dog named Bailey who I love very much, and if I could be any animal I would be a wolf (because the idea of living as a pack sounds emotionally satisfying) or an octopus (because they can do so many cool things).

I look forward to serving you this year!
