Sohayla Eldeeb Presents...

Hello Leaders of the Mighty, Mighty Florida District, I am exhilarated to be serving as your 2018-2019 District Governor. Our 80th District Education and Leadership Conference was beyond memorable and further blossomed my inspiration and excitement for the new service year! As the Florida District, we are granted with an overwhelming bright mindset, the right resources, and great connections. My initiative is to unlock these aspects for every club and create a set bar of passion throughout our district.

Achieving this together will be done through our objectives: Connection, Involvement, and Empowerment. Moving forward, I encourage you to connect with your lieutenant governors on growing and revolutionizing your club together. In regards to District Updates, I encourage you to get involved by attending the 2018 International Convention in Chicago, IL! More information can be found under the “ICON” tab on the Florida Key Club Website. (http://floridakeyclub.org/icon/) I want to commend you all on the outstanding work and impact achieved throughout this year. It was staggering to see all of your showcased achievements at DCON. I look forward to seeing your continuous efforts as the year soon comes to an end. Please use this summer as an opportunity to plan your goals in order to execute them in the midst of the new school year.

Lastly, I encourage you to explore my Governor’s Project, Keys to Educate. Share your projects with the #KeysToEducate on social media! Our district’s aim is to empower others within our society no matter their social-economic spectrum, and that starts with ensuring education is available to them. On that note, I would like to remind you that I am always available for you. Do not hesitate to reach out to me in regards to anything, because I was elected to serve alongside you to serve our homes, schools, and communities.

Greetings Florida District of Key Club! My name is Gabriel Layne and I am ecstatic to be serving as your 2018-2019 Florida District Editor. Over the course of this new service year, I look forward to highlighting all the extraordinary work of the Mighty, Mighty Florida District of Key Club. I anticipate working directly with club editors, adding more relevant information in our district publication, The Sunshine Source, and ensuring that members, advisors and the community are aware happenings of the district. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the District under this title and I aim to help us grow and expand in service and leadership.

Secretary’s Statement Emily Burris Presents...

Greetings Florida and Cayman Islands! My name is Emily Burris and I am so excited to be serving you all as District Secretary. I have three main goals for our mighty mighty Florida District: 1. Educate- Keep secretaries informed on how to fill out Pride Reports and Officer Information Forms through step-by-step instructional videos and updated resources.

2. Collaborate- Submit a brief survey to develop a fuller understanding of your club's strengths and give you the opportunity to suggest resources you would like to see produced by the District Board.

3. Evaluate- When secretaries submit their Pride Reports each month, they will receive a document called "Let's Serve". This document will outline your division's service and offer suggestions on how your club can grow.

As a reminder, March and April Pride Reports are due May 10th. The March Pride Report is not required, but I still encourage you all to fill it out. Also, make sure to submit the 2018-2019 Officer Information Form once your club has held its elections. If you have any questions feel free to email me at secretary@floridakeyclub.org. Yohanna Torres Presents...

Florida District, I am more than honored to have been elected as your 2018-2019 District Treasurer. Thank you for entrusting me with managing the funds of the District and disbursing them at the direction of the District Board. I have full faith that together the number of FLOF applicants and service projects being conducted will multiply. I am looking forward to a long year of providing service to our home, school, and community. Most of all, I cannot wait to see our District grow into a stronger, mightier Florida District.

Awards & Contests At our 80th annual District Educaiton and Leadership Conference this past April, Key Club members from across the Florida District were distinguished for their accomplishments at the assemblies throughtout the weekend. From Distinguished Officers and Governor’s Project to Pride Report Submission and Major Emphasis, Key Club members walked out of the assembly decorated and accomplished. Summer Service!

The school year may be coming to a close, but the 2018-2019 Florida Key Club service year is just beginning! Although summer is coming, it is vital clubs remain active in your community. Plan a few summer service projects in these last few meetings you have together as a club and continue to remind members about these projects after school is officially out through Remind, emails, messages, etc. Key Club is a service leadership organization. Our purpose is to serve, so let’s continue to volunteer in our communities, even without regular club meetings! Below are a few service project ideas perfect for summer. Please take advantage of these project ideas!

1) Beach cleanup- grab some trash bags and gloves to beautify our community!

2) Library Assistance (Governor’s Project)- schedule dates to help your local librarian organize novels, read to students, and more!

3) Community Workshop (Governor’s Project)- work with your local library to organize a date where you present a workshop of your choice to the community. Topics could include technology, health, etc.

DCON Recap April 5 through April 8 celebrated our 80th annual Florida District Education and Leadership Conference, otherwise referenced as DCON. Nearly 2,500 students from all across Florida and the Cayman Islands spent a weekend in service, friendship, and leadership. Members took part in new and entertaining workshop sessions, the largest election in Florida Key Club history, multiple assemblies, a service fair, an ice cream social, caucusing, and of course the Governor’s Banquet and Ball among other exciting activities. This year marked the largest DCON in Florida Key Club and we expect to continue growing in the future. If you are interested in attending the 81st DCON, it will be held from April 4 through April 7, 2019 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. Contact one of our Co-DCON chairs Tara Garner (DCONTara@floridakeyclub.org) or Robby Witten (DCONRobby@floridakeyclub.org) if you have any questions regarding DCON whether it involves fundraising, pricing, or more. They will be happy to help! Thank you to all who attended the 80th DCON, you truly helped make this conference one to cherish. Our first club feature this issue of The Sunshine Source is Doral Key Club. On May 12, Doral Key Club hosted 3 different drives. A food drive for Venezuela, a clothing drive for Colombia, and a book drive for Africa. Outstanding job!
