Itroduction This portfolio is a collection of work done at university and shortly after. The collection is organized in scale reduction order, starting from the urban scale projects, with particular attention to the composition and the relationships that they establish with the shape of the city and the morphology of the territory. This relationship between man, nature and architecture is at the center of most of the works presented, the study of the connections between these elements, the proportions, forms, direct and indirect contact they establish between them has been the focus of study and research conducted in these recent years, always keeping in relation with the syntax and morphology of the place where we are working.

MONOPOLI QUARRY Just outside the city center of Monopoly there is an area characterized by the presence of quarries which have been abandoned; The project aims to restoring the area creating a street front, as well as maritime and establish a relationship between the morphology of the soil, strongly characterized on the tuff quarry that opens to the sea and the square, that works as a connection gap between the buildings in which they rented dwellings and multifunctional centers.

REUSE OF ABBANDONED CITY OF MANI PENINSULA The Peninsula Mani settlements are a paradigmatic case study for the uniqueness of their urban form, characterized by the use of the tower type as a construction element of the house and the city, and their potential due to the extraordinary beauty of the landscape in which they are located.

Slowly abandoned by their proud and combative inhabitants for economic and political reasons, these settlements are now the subject of attention not only aimed at their preservation and protection but also to re-use them for tourist and cultural purposes. Based on the conviction that the reuse is the only solution to preserve from neglect effect this type of construction, whose value is not so much linked to that of individual buildings but to all the buildings that compose them, their mutual relations and established relationships with the place, the theoretical aim of the thesis was to find a principle of intervention that allows at the same time to place themselves in continuity with the settlement forms without abandoning their interpretation.

The challenge accepted by the two projects, both based on the relationship of reciprocity and mutual “gripping” between the new and the old, is not to compromise the morphological, topological and volumetric That define the two settlements of Vathia and Kita, and at the same time, to create the conditions Necessary to bring back life and Their “harsh” beauty and the beauty of their territories.

KITA The settlements, in little rough orographic conditions, tend to assume an open form and dilated, defined by the combination of less compact urban units, which include vegetable and flower gardens, held together by a loose network of paths that cross and connect to each other. The city of Kita belongs to this category. Built on little steep slopes of the western side of the great ridge that descends from Mount Taygetos, in the central part of the plateau between the bays of Mezapos and Gerolimenas, its shape “expanse” it is marked by a “constellation” of open urban units , thickened around spaces and monuments that identify them, interspersed with gardens and walled gardens and linked by a web of through-routes. The inhabited and the war towers are not grouped, helping to define its urban density.

Since the crisis areas of their urban form seem to coincide exactly with the areas of “edge”, the central question of the project, aimed at the “reconstruction” of the urban form, was, in the case of Kita, the construction of new urban units able to strengthen its urban form, respecting its open morphological structure.

VATHIA In steep orographic conditions settlements of Mani tend to take a compact and tight shape, defined by the aggregation of urban units similar in form and structure blocks closed. The abandoned town of Vathia belongs to this type. Located in the mountainous southern Mani and built on the highest part of a ridge that goes down to the small bay Kapi, it is distinguished by a compact shape and well defined in its limits, by a thickened building fabric along the ridge, dotted with residential towers and war towers that seem to “communicate” with each other.

Since the crisis areas of their urban form seem to coincide exactly with the areas of “edge”, the central question of the project, aimed at the “reconstruction” of the urban form, was, in the case of Vathia, redefining the boundary between city and nature.

BUILDING ON THE EDGE To establish the syntactic and morphological relations with the territory of Castellaneta and his gravina, reference was taken form the Old Center studying the peculiarities of Forms and Connections That It establishes with the ‘topography characterized by a deep gravina on which the Settlement rises in close continuity with the orography. The intent of the project is to recover these synergies between town and territory and propose them in suburban area of the City that is being in state of decay.

HUB FOR MED - FACOLTĂ€ DI MEDICINA, BARI The winning project of the call competition for med banished from the Faculty of bari medicine has as its goal the space retraining, of ‘multi-purpose building relevance, intended for medical students who currently have to spend leisure time in a cramped space, threatened by emergency vehicle access and mismanagement,. The furniture as well as space-dividers are designed of corten, wood and stone to need little maintenance, this redevelopment we aimed to give students an area where you can relax, create social situations or even enjoy a good read outdoors.

TOWER ON QUARRY The verticality and the connection of different levels are the guidelines that characterize this project which proposes a redevelopment and reuse of abandoned quarries. The environmental and visual impact is contained by the use of natural and local materials, in fact, the load-bearing building’s walls are designed with the same stone quarry and the small size of the bricks allows to cling on the quarry’s stone.

QUICK MOUNTING DIAPHRAGM ARC Starting from the desire to create a structure characterized by the quick mounting as well as from use of natural materials such as stone and wood, it was decided to build an arc whose construction principle is based primarily on the provision of two jack arc on a keystone.

The technique choice of having a flat plan is the need to be able to build the structure on the ground by placing the stone blocks side by side and connecting them with a non-permanent fiberglass connection. This system allows and provides a fast mounting of the structure that once assembled should only be raised by the keystone and placed on two specific piers. About the extrados instead we opted for a recess in the wood beams, positioned in the middle on the median axis of stone block, to do not compromise the mechanical qualities of the stone.
