Our Services Thanks to our donors, confidential, culturally-appropriate, and professional behavioral health services are available to empower children, teens, and adults to emerge stronger from life’s challenges.

Children

Teens & Young Adults

Families

Adults

Individuals of all ages and families access clinical counseling services, including specialized services for people who have experienced trauma. Children and adults who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (Deaf/HOH) and their family members access specialized, culturally-competent mental health services and support services, as well as on-campus student support groups. Parents and partners gain skills and tools to end intergenerational cycles of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and relationship violence through counseling and educational programming. Teens learn to build healthy relationships and prevent dating violence. K-12 students access on-campus, school-based clinical counseling services, including specialized mental health care children with special needs. Parents and guardians access consultations and support. Current and former foster youth gain life skills and receive one-to-one guidance, leadership development, and specialized mental health care to help them transition into independence.

High-risk teens and their family members are empowered to make positive choices and to build strong, positive relationships through Teen Families and Schools Together (FAST).

LGBTQ youth and young adults find a safe place at our youth-driven LGBTQ Youth Space, which offers a dropin center, peer support groups, leadership development, and culturally-competent counseling services.

Adults receive the assistance they need to succeed in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Our pioneering intensive program offers a higher level of care. Adults with co-occurring disorders, benefit from specialized clinical support, including through the Mental Health Court.

+ Thriving, Together FCS has brought on-campus counseling services to K-12 students for more than 20 years. Early intervention gives children and youth the best chance at success in school and in life. These clinical services provide vital support to families, while addressing factors that hinder learning and wellness. We met Nick when he was in the second

Volunteer Appreciation Individual, small group, and corporate volunteers expand and strengthen our circle of support for the people we serve. These are just a few of the meaningful ways that volunteers made a difference last year.

Youth Leaders

National Rebuilding Day

Foster Youth Support

Our LGBTQ Youth Space is a youth-driven program. That means youth are actively involved in decision-making, planning activities and events, and guiding the growth of the program.

In April, our Palo Alto Office received a much-need dose of skilled TLC through the generous support of Rebuilding Together Peninsula.

For the last few years, a group of mothers (some pictured above) have made back-toschool time and major holidays special for current and former foster youth we serve.

Last year, the program’s Youth Speakers Bureau reached more than 3,500 people, sharing their personal experiences and nurturing understanding.

We were matched with a neighbor: Stanford University’s Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE). The talented volunteers made repairs and beautified and modernized our courtyard, lobby, and restroom.

The backpacks, school supplies, Thanksgiving side dishes, and more that they have collected help to show youth that someone in their community cares if they have a new notebook and pencils on the first day of school.

Would you like to get involved, too? Please visit www.fcservices.org/volunteer or call 650.543.5434. Strengthening families, Changing lives.

+ Current Initiatives Areas of Innovation & Growth for Fiscal Year 2015 Expansion of Youth Services

Investment in Innovation

This year, we are expanding our effective youth programs by:

Our Clinical Counseling Program, which provides sliding scale services, including psychiatric care, relies on donations to reach children, teens, and adults with quality care. We are adapting the program model to the evolving health care environment and piloting new service activities, including increased support for veterans.

14

Bringing our LGBTQ Youth Space model to our Palo Alto office to better serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth living in northern Santa Clara County. Expanding the evidence-based, nationally recognized Families and Schools Together (FAST) curriculum to a third campus in east San Jose.

Exploring methods to increase substance use prevention and treatment services for youth and young adults.

Increasing services for children and teens who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing by adding peer support groups at San Jose’s magnet elementary and high schools. (Middle school services launched in 2012.)

www.fcservices.org

You Can Help! Donate You make possible our comprehensive circle of support for children, teens, and adults in our community. Find out about the many ways to give in the “Get Involved” section at www.fcservices.org. Between now and June 30, your gift will help us meet our Challenge Grant from the Sobrato Family Foundation. The impact of your donation may be doubled!

Our Substance Use Disorder Services Program, the largest outpatient program in Santa Clara County, created and implemented a pilot program to provide intensive support to adults who need a higher level of care than the traditional outpatient model. This program, now expanding from its pilot size, is changing the lives of people who have repeatedly tried and failed in recovery.

Volunteer

Last year, our Independent Living Program (ILP) developed a new life skills curriculum specific to the needs of current and former foster youth. During FY 2015, ILP will refine the curriculum, applying youth feedback to make the curriculum the best it can be.
