It’s good to return home to The Venue after a run of 5 away fixtures. I’m pleased to say that our away form has improved over the last month. After a disappointing defeat against Cammell Laird 1907 we scored our first away goals and earned our first away point in a hard fought 2-2 draw at near neighbours, Ellesmere Rangers. The following week we gained our first away victory with a splendid 5-2 away win at Barnton.

Two long trips to the Greater Manchester area followed, with a league fixture at Wythenshawe AFC and our First Division Cup match at Maine Road. We got a creditable draw in our league match and then went through to the Third Round of the First Division Cup. It was 2-2 after full time against Maine Road but then we prevailed by 4-1 in the penalty shoot out.

After a decent start to the season Stone Dominoes have hit a tricky patch. They will be keen to turn their fortunes around this afternoon, so we expect a tough encounter as we seek to extend our unbeaten run to 5 games.

2000. Springbank League Champions by 14 points.

Manager: Kyle Adams Founded in 1987 at St. Dominic`s Catholic Church Scout, Cub, Beaver Group in Stone with a team of 8 year olds, by Chairman, Bob Bowers, for his youngest son Daniel and his friends from St. Dominic`s, Stone and St. Josephs College, Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent.

The name was chosen by the boys; therefore Stone St. Dominic`s became Stone Dominoes F.C. After a highly successful period in youth football Chairman Bob Bowers and his best footballing friend Trevor Morrell, Madeley White Star F.C, merged their two clubs with the intention of focusing on 16-18 year olds with 2 teams in the County Minor Youth which the club has dominated for the last 7 years, picking up innumerable trophies including 3 prestigious Sentinel Cups and 1 Sentinel Shield as well as Staffordshire County Cups.

The club opened its new ground at Springbank Park, Yarnfield, after a significant effort by club members and players to build the current club house and pick a mountain of stones from the 3 pitches.

1995. The club enter the 1st team in open age Saturday football in the, then, 2nd Division of the Refuge Assurance Midland League.

2001. Three months at the top of the North West Counties Div II before settling for a respectable 13th and 50 points. Many lessons learnt.

2002. Missed promotion by only 3 points, coming 4th and finishing on 78 points.

With an eye on the future, Dominoes made the decision to move from their Yarnfield ground to share at Kings Park home of Meir KA in Meir Heath. Over 60,000 was spent on the ground to bring it up to the required standard and the ground was renamed the Springbank Stadium after the clubs sponsors.

2002/03. Was the most momentous in the Club’s History with Stone Dominoes becoming the first North Staffordshire Club to be awarded the prestigious F.A. Charter Standard Community Club Status, which is only given to Clubs with a minimum of 10 teams covering boys and girls, men and women.

To achieve the standard a club has to have proven procedures to take care of the health and safety and development of its players, volunteers and spectators. Promotion was achieved in the penultimate game of the season with a narrow 3-2 win over Ashton Town which enabled them to overtake Maine Road who had completed their fixtures. The Division Two Trophy was also won with a 2-1 win over again Ashton Town.

1995 to 1998. Promotion from Div II and cup success under local players, a lot of whom were only 16.

2003/04. Stone Dominoes played at their highest level ever, in Division One of the NWCL. They surprised many people by being one of the early front runners and although they dropped away mid season, they still finished in a very strong 10th place.

2008/09. After a slow start to the season Doms had a good run in the FA Vase to the 4th round proper, and created a club record of 12 successive wins which moved Doms from mid table to finish 3rd in the league only just missing out on promotion by 2 points.

2004/05. Another good season for the club with a solid mid-table position being held for almost the whole season. Also a great cup run in the FA Vase reaching the 5th round.

2009/10. The first team won the 1st division of the Vodkat North West Counties League and gained promotion to the Premier Division at step 5 in the NLS. They also won the Staffordshire FA Vase beating Heath Hayes 3 - 0 in the final at Stafford Rangers FC. The reserve team was reformed under the guidance of Scott Woodcock & Keith Murphy who were placed in the 1st division of the Staffordshire County Senior League. In their first season they achieved runners up spot and promotion to the Premier Division. The under 18`s secured 2nd place in Premier Division of the Staffordshire County Minor Youth League.

2005/06. A traumatic season for the club.

Chairman Bob Bowers decided to leave the club and it seemed for a time that the club would fold. However, a new board was formed and the club started the season with the majority of the previous seasons reserve side making the step up. A new Chairman came in Chris Haines and in January 2006 ex Stoke City player Kevin Sheldon was appointed 1st team coach. After being at the bottom of the league for most of the season Dominoes managed to stave of relegation, and also picking up the Fair Play Award at the League`s Presentation Evening..

2006/07. A disappointing season ending in relegation to North West Counties Division Two but with work progressing on the impressive Springbank Park, back at Yarnfield things were looking good for the club.

2007/08. The start of the season was an exciting time for Stone Dominoes as they returned to their true home at Springbank Park in their impressive new stadium which is the envy of many. The 1st night match against locals rivals Eccleshall attracted a healthy crowd of 207, but with results being inconsistent and after a disastrous result in the Staffs FA Vase it was decided to dispense with Head Coach Kevin Sheldon in November, Doms player Jamie Cartwright took over on a temporary basis until the right person was found. At the end of December Dominoes announced the appointment of Shaun Hollinshead as their new manager. Despite some good performances Doms finished a creditable mid table.

At the end of the season Chairman Chris Haines had to step down due work commitments.

Long time Doms servant Phil Bath stepped into the roll and a new secretary came on board Pauline Matthews from Alsager. A notable signing was that of TV star Ralf Little from the programme The Royle Family.

2010/11. Chris Haines took over as chairman once again at the start of the season. The first team, after losing the majority of the squad, finished 19th in the league.

2011/12. Once again Chris Haines stepped down as chairman & again Phil Bath stepped into the roll. Mark Sutton the reserve team secretary became the new club secretary. It was to be Shaun Hollinshead’s final season at Stone, before leaving for Kidsgrove Athletic, at the end of the season. But with no funds available to Shaun, he did however manage to guide the first team to safety in the NWCFL Premier Division & take the team through two very exciting FA Cup preliminary rounds, before narrowly going out to Evostik southern league side Barwell FC 3-2.

The club resigned from the NWCFL in the 2012/13 season and ceased to exist until they were reformed under the stewardship of Kyle Adams and Dominic Ryder in 2015 taking their place in the Staffordshire County Senior League.

The newly put together side won the SCSL President’s Trophy and missed out on promotion by a point in Division One. In 2016/17. Doms gained promotion to the SCSL Premier Division by securing a runners-up spot after failing to win their final game of the season to become Champions. In their first season in the Premier Division the side struggled early on but found a good run of form in the second half of the season to finish 11th in the table. After a successful application to the newly restructured NWCFL the club were reassigned to Division One South.

In a nip and tuck affair Town twice took the lead in the first half through goals from Liam Parry and Lewis Jarman. Michael Burke hit back for the home side with the score at half time being 2-1 to the Town.

The second half proved a cagey affair and it looked like fortune was not going to smile on the Town when Owen Lloyd unluckily conceded an own goal. However, Town held their nerve in the penalty shoot out, taking it 4-1 and went through to Round 3.

Prostate Cancer UK reach out to supporters and players at all levels of our national game to help turn the game around for men. By teaming up with NonLeague Day, this provides a great platform to raise vital funds for more groundbreaking research to help provide dedicated support and information to men and their families and make prostate cancer a disease the next generation of men need not fear.

On board with Non-League Day for the fifth time, Prostate Cancer UK raised £15,000 last year as more than 50 clubs joined the fight against the deadliest opponent of all. Today is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever! Clubs from across the non-league pyramid have all signed up for Men United as we join forces to give prostate cancer a real beating in a jam-packed day of activity.

This year has already been boosted by Vanarama - the van hire firm and title sponsor of the National League has changed its name to Manarama and have been donating £50 to Prostate Cancer UK for every lease since September until today. To reflect its commitment to this fundraising drive, they have pledged to raise £150,000.

The impact of Non-League Day throughout the country today is hailed by James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK. James said: “We stand together in our quest to change the game for men and their families and the grassroots game is the perfect platform to do this. The money raised will fund ground-breaking research to help fight this disease and the awareness generated across the length and breadth of the country will be vital in helping stop prostate cancer being a killer’’.

FIRST DIVISION CUP NEWS With clubs voting to have an “all in” draw with no geographic separations, the First Division Cup 2nd Round paired up a good number of North v South clashes, and four of the ties were decided on penalty shoot outs.

The highest scorers of the day were Avro, whose 7-0 home win over Stone Dominoes saw six different scorers on target for the home side, but probably the most eye catching score of the day was at Adie Moran Park, where holders Prestwich Heys were defeated 6-1 on their home patch by Barnton.

Ryan Malone and Lee Guirado both scored twice for the Villagers, whio have now hit 11 goals on the road in their last two games.

Sandbach United kept up their recent good run with a 5-0 win at home to Cheadle Town, with leading scorer James Kirby adding another two to his tally for the season.

Cheadle Heath Nomads also hit five at home, winning 5-2 against St Helens Town, a result that was all the more notable given that Nomads were two goals down until the 34th minute.

Division North pace setters Carlisle City won 3-0 at Lower Breck, although victory was only secured in the final four minutes when goals from Aaron Bradbury and Robert McCartney made the game safe for the Cumbrians.

In the other games that saw visiting teams clinch victories in regulation time, goals from Michael Gervin and Matthew Dell saw Bacup Borough to a 2-1 win at Steeton, and David Wright scored twice in Wythenshawe Amateurs’ 4-2 win at Ashton Town.

Alsager Town bounced back from a heavy midweek league defeat to progress through to the next round with a 3-2 win at Chadderton, where all the goals came in the opening 42 minutes.

There were home wins recorded by Eccleshall, whose 2-1 defeat of Nelson at Pershall Park was sealed by a 90th minute winner from James Lewis, and AFC Blackpool were set on the way to victory by the same score against Stockport Town through first half goals from Mike Hall and Isaac Sinclair.

James McGrane scored twice for AFC Liverpool in their 3-0 win over Cleator Moor Celtic, and in the one game played on Friday night, a Daniel Cross penalty was enough to edge a 1-0 win for Vauxhall Motors over Cammell Laird 1907..

Four games were decided by penalties after the teams were tied at the end of 90 minutes.

An 88th minute equaliser from Seth Ellis of Ellesmere Rangers ensured their game against Stone Old Alleynians ended 1-1, and Rangers won the shoot out 4-2.

There was also a late equaliser at Drayton Beaumont Park, where Abbey Hulton United’s Kieran Lazenby salvaged a 2-2 draw for his side with an 89th minute goal against Rylands, but it was Rylands who won the shoot out 4-3.

In the derby clash at the Mike Riding Ground, Richard Coar’s 79th minute equaliser earned Garstang a 1-1 draw at Longridge Town, with Garstang winning 4-2 on penalties, and the most convincing winners on penalties were FC Oswestry Town, who won their shoot out 4-1, after drawing 2-2 at Maine Road.
