Steam trains Discover the delights of steam with a ride on the Mary Ann, a working replica of Queensland’s first steam engine, built in Maryborough in 1873 (every Thursday and last Sunday of the month). Adults and children can also take a ride on the delightful miniature trains around Queens Park as a part of Sunday in the Park (last Sunday of the month).

Time Cannon A quirky Maryborough tradition, with the Town Crier and Mary Heritage firing a replica time cannon every Thursday at 11am at the Bond Store Museum and 1pm at the Town Hall Green as a part of the Maryborough Markets.

Visit one of only three preserved retail stores in the world to discover what shopping was like more than 130 years ago at this National Trust museum in Lennox Street. Opened in 1871, the store ceased trading in 1972, complete with stock and advertising dating back to the 1890s.

Share the stories of immigrants who braved a long sea voyage into the unknown and delve into Maryborough’s rich past as one of Queensland’s most important colonial ports. Discover the history of the state’s pioneering industries.

Bond Store (1864) Walk the earthen floors of the Bond Store, old storage for Her Majesty’s Customs Service. Revisit a time when opium was a legal import and taste port among rum barrels left over from the 1860s. See a sound and light show based on the arrival of the first boatload of immigrants in 1862.

Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum (1879) Explore more than 10,000 items of military and colonial memorabilia. Learn about the heroes who fought in distant lands and courageous pioneers who settled this colony. See two rare Victoria Crosses and a Cross of Valour along with other medals, uniforms, period costumes and historic vehicles.

Maryborough Heritage Centre Maryborough Family Heritage Institute has an extensive amount of research material available. More than 20,000 immigrants came into Queensland through Maryborough and the passenger lists are available for viewing. Find your Maryborough connection.

TIPPLES AND TALES (Bookings essential) Meet the gauger and hear his stories of the Bond Store’s past as you enjoy a tantalising experience of regional ports, liqueurs and tasting platters.

One of Australia’s earliest botanic gardens, heritage-listed Queens Park has sweeping river views, a waterfall, ornamental flower beds and towering trees dating back to 1864. Heritage features include a rotunda, cannons and a fountain. Kids love the magnificent Banyan Tree, one of the oldest and largest of its kind in Australia.

Mary River Parklands Once lined with wharves, the Parklands are now a beautiful green space with striking public art and monuments, winding pathways, gardens and a river deck.

Wildlife Encounters Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary Enjoy close encounters with Australia’s native animals at this popular wildlife park on Mungar Road, near Maryborough. Pat dingoes, feed kangaroos, emus, camels and even hold a reptile.

Explore Maryborough’s historic city centre and hear 19th century costumed guides spin tales of the immigrants, pioneers and traders who were once the backbone of this old port city. Departs City Hall, Monday to Saturday at 9am.

ANZAC PARK AND Ululah Lagoon See swans, ducks, pelicans and other birdlife at this lagoon, once a favourite meeting place for Aboriginal tribes. The lagoon is bordered by a beautiful park with walk and cycle paths, playground, picnic tables, BBQs, exercise stations and toilet blocks.
