F.C. Local Publishes Book on Supreme Court Nominations

Falls Church resident Ilya Shapiro had his new book recently published, “Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America’s Highest Court,” which covers the history of partisan judicial nominations and discusses reform proposals that could make for a more tame nomination process.

Shapiro, the director of Constitutional Studies at the libertarian CATO Institute, writes about the role Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has played in past Supreme Court nomination battles; the tumult of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s hearings and what it will take to restore constitutional order and remove politics from the court system.

Mason Band Mentorship Program Starts Oct. 26

George Mason High School

band members offer a free program called Music Mentors, which is an opportunity for all Thomas Jefferson Elementary and Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School band students to work with experienced high school music mentors. The Music Mentor meetings will be held on Mondays from 1:30 – 2 p.m. in Schoology. The first meeting will be on Oct. 26th. Upon registering, parents and students will receive an email discussing the program’s guidelines

Music Mentors allows students to develop meaningful friendships with students who share the same passion for music. High school students will provide instruction on developing musical ability and coaching about the role of music in their lives. Band faculty members will monitor conferences. Plan Ahead for Picture Day at Mason

George Mason High School’s

(7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church) picture day for grades 9 – 11 will be held on two short days — Friday, Oct. 16, and Friday, Oct. 23, from 1 – 7 p.m. Families/students will need to create an account and book their own time(s) by visiting pickatime.com/ client. Due to Covid-19 guidelines, no walk-ins will be accepted on these days. Students will enter the school using Door 19 and walk straight to the Mustang Cafe.
