The reverend Jean Pierre de Caussade was one of the most remarkable spiritual writers of the Society of Jesus in France in the 18th century. This work is divided into two parts; the first devoted to total abandonment to Divine Providence; the first aspect being one Sr Mary Christine de Caussade, J. P. Zimorski as virtue, common and necessary to all Christians, the other as a state, proper to souls who have a special practice of seeking the holy will of God. The second part contains letters of direction for persons leading a spiritual life.

It should have two-fold interest to Superiors: it will inspire Liguori them with zeal and with vigilance, on which depend the maintenance of regular observances, and consequently the salvation of the community and their own salvation.
