Your district is invited to participate in the statewide launch to Remake Learning Days – discoverED – and participate in a record-breaking design challenge!

On May 4, participating districts are invited to have one of their second-grade classrooms “swap schools” for an afternoon to experience how STEAM & maker pedagogies are thriving in a classroom different from their own. Participating schools will connect virtually, and students will plan, create, and iterate their very own marble maze. Live feed of this record-breaking design challenge will stream to hundreds of schools across the state as we launch Remake Learning Days in Pennsylvania!

Some schools will be selected for additional media opportunities upon receiving district permission.

discoverED will:

Launch Remake Learning Days 2021 across Pennsylvania Connect teachers and students virtually for meaningful connections and collaborative learning activities Encourage exploration of new parts of Pennsylvania amid a global pandemic Provide positive media opportunities for your district Cultivate engineering concepts in elementary school students – all while having a blast!

WHAT?

discoverED is a collaboration, design challenge, and the launch/media kickoff of Remake Learning Days across Pennsylvania

WHEN?

May 4, 2021 from 12-2 p.m.

WHO?

Second-grade classrooms across Pennsylvania

WHY? discoverED is an opportunity for schools that differ in demographics to partner and swap students for an afternoon and to experience how STEAM and maker practices positively impact kids. discoverED’s virtual collaboration opportunities will create meaningful connections between teachers and students for years to come.

HOW? Due to the generous support of the Grable Foundation, the Avonworth School District, and the Fox Chapel Area School District, participating districts will receive virtual support, media packets, and design challenge supplies shipped to their schools at no cost to their district.

Key Dates • Now: Watch discoverED 2021 launch video • By April 7, 2021: Complete the participation interest form at http://bit.ly/discoverED2021.

• Month of April: We will connect you with your partner district • Month of April: Connect virtually to meet your partner class (optional virtual icebreaker activities will be shared with all participants) • Week of April 12, 2021: Connect virtually with your partner class (optional virtual icebreaker activities and design thinking prompts will be shared with all participants) • Month of April: Collect and quarantine boxes and other optional supplies for mazes (1 per student) • Month of April: Receive glue, marbles, straws, and other supplies at no cost to the district (first 400 schools) • May 4, 2021: Connect virtually with your partner school and stream the design challenge live to hundreds of schools • After May 4, 2021: Teachers will have the opportunity to connect your students' individual marble mazes to create one giant class maze and share videos or photos with participants from across the state.
