CHAMBERSBURG-WAYNESBORO MSA DECEMBER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AT 3.1%
HARRISBURG (FEBRUARY 4) – The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the ChambersburgWaynesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) was up one-tenth of a percentage point over the month to 3.1 percent in December 2024. The state rate (3.6%) was also up one-tenth of a percentage point from November while the national unemployment rate declined one-tenth of a point to 4.1 percent.

Seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs in the Chambersburg-Waynesboro MSA were up 200 over the monthto62,200inDecember,only100belowtherecordhigh.Overtheyear,jobswereup2.1percent(+1,300) in the MSA, slightly above the statewide growth of 1.9% since last November.

Among the seven published supersectors, six were essentially unchanged from October levels. Trade, transportation & utilities rose 200 as employers continued seasonal hiring Over the year, six of the seven supersectors added jobs with the largest gain in trade, transportation & utilities, up 600 jobs. Education & health services was close behind, adding 500 jobs since December 2023.
