A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR SHAWN
The Lord Is Near The year 2016 is over. There are some years that just pass into history and others we say, “What a year!” For us it has been a year of significant change. When it began we knew that we were most likely going to be moving to Redlands, but it wasn’t certain. And then it happened, not necessarily the way we planned, but it happened. There were other things that happened this year that we didn’t expect. No matter what your political views, I suspect that the results of the presidential election would have been unexpected back at the beginning of 2016. Some of us lost loved ones during this year and others of us were blessed with new “little” additions to our families. All of us made new friends this year. Some have said that 2016 cannot end soon enough. Others are worried about what the year ahead will hold. But like every year we take it day by day and we trust
that the Lord will walk with us into the future. Philippians 4:4-7 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything but with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Because the Lord is near, we can rejoice. Instead of worrying we can approach life and situations with gentleness in prayer and supplication and thanksgiving to God. And we will find a peace that goes beyond understanding and explanation no matter what our circumstances…because the Lord is near and wishes to be involved in our lives daily. I have decided that I need to memorize this passage and meditate on it regularly. I hope you will too.
In 2017 we as a church family will be exploring what God has for us in our future as a church. It will mean that we will be treading new ground. We may make some wrong turns, but hopefully we will do it in such a way that we can retrace our steps and try again. There will be times that each of us will be saying, “I don’t know about this!” “This makes me uncomfortable.” “Is this a good idea?” But remember, the Lord is near. And so I would like to ask each of us to take a few minutes each day to pray specifically for the future of our church. Pray for discernment and wisdom and courage, for all of us! Take time to be quiet and listen. And may we continually experience the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen!
