TOGETHER AT A A Message from Pastor Shawn
DISTANCE I miss you! Yes, YOU! All this “social distancing” and “safer at home” has caused me to realize deep down how much I have come to love my church family over these 4 years. May 1 is my 4th anniversary as senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Redlands. On one hand time has sped by. On the other, I feel like I have been a part of this church for a long time. And now I miss seeing all of you. In a few short weeks I have come to depend upon and appreciate Zoom. If you don’t know what that is yet, it is an electronic/ internet way of “meeting” with people. You can see each other and hear each other on your computer screen or phone. We are now using Zoom for weekly staff meetings, Executive Council meetings, various commission meetings, most of our adult Sunday school classes, youth group Sunday school and Thursday night meeting, and weekly children’s “gatherings.” We even used Zoom to produce our Maundy Thursday online Service of Darkness. At the beginning of March, I didn’t know what Zoom was. It’s not even close to “being there,” but I enjoy seeing, hearing and having conversations with people.
Issue No. 5
I have enjoyed seeing various ones of you who have participated in our Sunday online Worship Experiences. And the number of people who have been a part of those services both visibly, behind the scenes and in-between—not to mention those who are calling to help people figure out how to get online or work to make sure the services are broadcast at Plymouth Village—well, I don’t know if I can count that high! We continue to work on helping people to be in contact with one another. I am thankful that people are being intentional about calling one another. I am excited about the friendships that are growing because of these regular phone calls. It has already been longer than we anticipated that we have been physically apart. It is looking more and more like our coming back together will be gradual. We are not going to be the same. Some of that will be difficult, but some of it will be good. We will have a lot to share when we get back together. In the meantime, we have asked several people to share some of their thoughts and experiences while we are “Together at a Distance.” In Christ, Pastor Shawn
