Missions A Year of Giving 2024

Page 1

Serving our neighbors is our highest calling next to loving and worshipping God. To that end, First Baptist Martinsville is committed to supporting local, state, national and international missions organizations through prayer, financial resources, and service. Inside this presentation you will find ways we engaged our community, from our WMU group to our local, national and international missions partners with whom we share the work of caring for our neighbors in Jesus’ name.

And Jesus said:

“…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’”

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’

Ongoing Outreach Mission in our Community:

The Missions Committee and WMU (Women’s Missionary Union) actively support the Patrick Henry Elementary School Food Pantry. Our church family contributes by donating pantry items, while the Missions Committee supplements these efforts with a monthly contribution of $50 to purchase essential items. The school distributes food bags to students in need, ensuring they have extra food to sustain them over the weekends. Through this outreach initiative, we extend care, compassion, and support to our community.

Now located at the Salvation Army at 603 Memorial Blvd S., Martinsville, VA, the center is a vital community resource that relies heavily on donations and local support to operate. First Baptist Church is proud to serve as one of the designated Donation Drop-Off Locations. For the latest information on needed items, volunteer opportunities, and ways to contribute financially, please consult the FBC E-Newsletter. Together, we can deliver not just supplies but also encouragement to those in need.

FBC Missions Committee Supports CBFVA Educational Program

The Missions Committee generously donated $3,000 to the CBFVA Education Program, which focuses on preparing the next generation of pastors specifically for Virginia. This program addresses the gap in educational opportunities for pastoral candidates left by the closure of the Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond. Through a collaboration between the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky and the Baptist House of Studies at Union Presbyterian Seminary, students now have two viable educational pathways: an online program through the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky and in-person studies offered at Union Presbyterian Seminary. This initiative ensures that future faith leaders receive the training they need to serve their communities effectively.
