This thesis aims to show by research trough
design that the markets of Managua have the
potential to be meaningful places for the people
working on the market and those living on and
around the market.
More general the objective is also to show that
the existing urban fabric of Managua provides
a lot of possibilities to create places that help
improving the quality of life of the urban residents.
The city of Managua is facing a variety of challenges
and problems which affect the everyday
life of its inhabitants. One of the bigger problems
surely is the immense sprawling of the city
which brings a lot of consequential problems
with it, such as increasing traffic load or the
decreasing connectivity and accessibility to the
city of certain groups of inhabitants.
Another striking fact is the absence of qualitative
public space in the city. Having lived in
different Western Europe cities one gets used to
be able to spend a lot of time in public spaces.
