COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT This quarter’s COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT shines on Arts and Letters and Membership Services.

&

The Arts and Letters Committee presented an innovative idea, bringing the community together to share mini virtual concerts sponsored by NPR Tiny Desk Series on You Tube during Black History Month. Every Thursday, the public was invited to enjoy a 30-minute cluster of concerts featuring artists that included Ledisi, Giveon, Kirk Franklin, Anthony Hamilton, Patti LaBelle, The Isley Brothers, John legend, Gregory Porter, Masego, Tank and the Bangas. The weekly events averaged 50 attendees (to include honorary member Colette Smith) and garnered over 1200 views. Using the newly formed NC Chapter Cluster, the Arts and Letters Committee collaborated with the Fayetteville Alumnae and Delta Xi chapters to help sponsor the first annual “Just Heal Bro” symposium presented by the Fine Arts Department of Fayetteville State University. This 2-day event was attended by approximately 100 participants. The Arts and Letters Committee also donated $500 to the local Arts Council in support of their annual “Black Lit” Book Fair Event where Council volunteers read aloud to children who attended from the community.

COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT

In March, the Membership Services committee kicked off sisterhood month with a 2-day retreat to Willington, North Carolina. The Ballast Hotel on the riverfront was the perfect location for chapter members to relax and reconnect. On day 1, Sorors were treated with gift bags and a welcome reception with food, fun and game night!

Day two started with breakfast and bonding activities. Chapter members were able to explore the city, then rest up for a formal evening of intrigue and drama as Sorors participated in a hilarious good old-fashioned murder mystery! No retreat would be complete without laugher and conversation until 3am!!

Fort Bragg Area Alumnae Chapter hosts its signature scholarship event in-person for the first time in almost 2 years!

The chapter’s signature fundraiser for scholarship was held at the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, on March 19th, 2022.

This year’s theme, “From the Brunch to the Ballot Box was focused on the importance of voting. This sold-out event garnered over 300 guests, including a large number of politicians and candidates for the upcoming mid-term elections. Former North Carolina State Supreme Court Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson was the guest speaker.
