WHEN SPIRITUAL FATHERS ARE REJECTED by: Dr. Bill Hanshew Numbers 12:1-3 “1 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian 2 woman. So they said, “Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?”

And the LORD heard it. 3 (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)”

There are natural fathers, adopted fathers; and spiritual fathers. There are good fathers in all of these areas and some not so good. We even have a Father-God. But in the church-world, we hear a lot today about the abuse of sheep in ministry. And rightly so. However, we should know that pastors and leaders also deal with the same human element as everyone else.

There is also another type of abuse that goes on in the church as well. And this story in Numbers 12 gives us a picture of this very thing.

Moses had been called by God, since birth. And it took some time for Moses to become aware of this calling, but finally he came face to face with God’s plan. However, as with all of us; when things do not go as someone thinks it should, people have a tendency to place the blame on everyone else, except themselves.

Often times in the church, blame is placed on the leader or pastor. Today the church has gone from follow the leader, to blame the leader.

They begin to speak out against the leader that God had assigned them to. One day, Miriam and Aaron began to speak out against Moses because of their own prejudice regarding a decision Moses chose to make. Many would argue that it was because of who he married; but the deeper difficulty had to do with not liking the decision Moses made. This type of problem has been very common in the

church and in families for years.

The reality is that God not only wants unity in the church, but he also wants unity in the home; especially between the father and his children. Great divisions occur when fathers make decisions concerning the home, and when family members begin to question the authority God has given to godly fathers. Often, fathers make decisions, believing they are what is absolutely best for the family.

Remember, when God said to Moses to tell Pharaoh to

release the people of God from Egypt’s bondage, and when Moses began to lead them on the journey that was to bring them to the promised land, that some began to complain.

Complaining always causes the journey to become difficult.

Complaining always divides the family unit. Fathers are not always right, but what if we respected those who lead, instead of rejecting their leadership.

As with Moses, somewhere along the way, the people grew weary in their flesh and began to complain. People can become weary if the vision takes too long to manifest, or if the church building doesn’t fill up as fast as some think it should, or if someone stirs up opposition among the believers. And when people lose sight of the vision, they began to blame the leader instead of the enemy. This is the same way the enemy works in the family.

When it comes to the church, God assigns individuals to sit under pastors for the purpose of teaching, training and spiritual growth.

Many believers in the body of Christ miss out on the greater things of the Spirit, because they reject God’s predestined

plan for their lives.

Ephesians 4:11 tells us that Jesus gave gifts to the body of Christ, called ministers; so that the other gifts might be raised up for God’s glory.

Ephesians 4:11 says, “And He {Jesus} Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.” Then in verses 12 and 13 we are shown the purpose for these gifts; “12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” God does not want any believer pushed around by the devil; so they must be trained and developed.

What we have are gifts, who are called by God to train and develop other gifts. Not greater or lessor, just some gifts have a greater responsibility. When it came to Miriam and Aaron, they questioned saying, “Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?”

When the Lord heard it, He became angry. Moses was a very humble man; one worthy of being followed as

a leader who had been raised up by God. Romans 13:1 ESV says, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities.

For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” This tells us that all authority comes from God. Therefore, godly authority should be honored and respected; but never to be rejected. Therefore, today we have rejection from the employee, toward the employer; from the children, toward the fathers, and of the saints, toward God’s leaders.

Even so, when it comes to natural fathers or spiritual fathers, we pray for the children or saints regardless of how much they rebel.

Likewise, in the case of Moses and those who were in rebellion, God intervened and dealt with the problem so that the people were able to move forward into the next step of the plan of God, He had for them.

When it comes to spiritual fathers being rejected, God set up a plan for leaders and the benefit of the saints of God as well. Hebrews 13:17 ESV says, “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those

who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.�

Everyone gets blessed, families stay together, church congregations stay together and most of all, God gets the glory and His plan

prospers in the lives of everyone. Rejection is the solution given by the devil, but never from God. ‌Think about it!

woman - barren, broken, addicted to bitterness, empty, and alone. Two impossible stories -no different from the many found in the pages of God’s own. Beginnings deemed hopeless and sad as the odds continued to be stacked only to be concluded by God’s grace with immeasurably more than could have been thought or asked. What does it look like when God’s hand reaches down into a broken world, picks up a broken person and rescues them from their broken life? God’s hand is so big that if He picks up one broken person, He can’t help but pick up several. Our lives are purposed to change the lives of those around us; the day that we received that touch from God is the very day others received their promise. God has begun a Love Connection as others wait in expectancy for our story--they may not know yet--but our life that was just changed has ultimately changed theirs.

In Search of Our Father by: Dan Corse Psalm 68:5-6 (NKJ) – 5 A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows is God in His Holy habitation. 6 God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity.

Many of us were raised in homes where our fathers were for the most part ungodly role models. In my case my Dad was an alcoholic. That being so and the fact my Dad did not find sobriety and come to know Christ as Savior until his later years, he was unable during my early and formative years to provide to me the example of a godly father.

Unlike some based on their father’s shortcomings, I did not and do not harbor ill will and unforgiveness toward my Dad. I say that not as if I have always been above such things, but merely as a matter of fact, a matter of fact which I can only attribute to the grace of God. However, related to ill will and unforgiveness harbored toward our fathers, or, as far as that goes, toward anyone, it is important to remember

that such things, rather than producing spiritual stability in us instead merely compound the challenges we are already facing.

Forgiving others and not holding ill will toward them is not to say their ungodly influence in our lives was acceptable, but it is choosing to not bind ourselves habitually to their negative influence.

Nor is it healthy to compare our fathers to other fathers with a desire to establish without a doubt that individually our father was the worst. Considering the worst, being we are not allknowing as is God, there is no way for us to really to know the answer to such a comparison anyway.

Furthermore, such comparisons do not bring about the healing so many of us long for. Suffice it to say, the degree to which our fathers exhibited ungodly influences in our lives is a continuum, one which could be viewed as mild to severe.

Yet, whatever level of ungodly influence we experienced from our fathers, we are not without hope. As the Psalm reminds us, God is “a father of the fatherless.”

Many of us due to not recognizing God’s desire to be a father to us or for other reasons have sought answers and help in a myriad of other places other than God. That often has resulted in our challenges being compounded rather than dealt with in a healthy and healing manner. Sadly, that sometimes has been so due to the fact that there exists in this world those who recognized us as the walking wounded based on our pasts and exploited that knowledge to their benefit, by doing so increasing the magnitude of the challenges we were already facing. In other cases we have sought help from others who themselves were the walking wounded, and though their intents were perhaps honorable, they were incapable of providing us the answers we sought. In such

cases Jesus’ comments about both falling into a ditch when the blind lead the blind is an appropriate consideration (Matt. 15:14).

Ultimately, in seeking answers and healing related to the ungodly influences of our natural or physical fathers, the source of those answers and healing is God. We recall that James 1:17 (NKJ) declares, “Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” Answers reflecting godly knowledge and wisdom and bringing healing are “good gifts.”

They are good gifts from the “Father of lights.” Note that God is the Father of lights.

We who know Christ as Savior, who have experienced being born again or spiritual regeneration, are referred to as the “light of the world” (Matt. 5:14) and “sons of light” (1 Thess.

5:5). As light, who is our Father?

Assuredly, the answer is God. We should note too of our spiritual Father that with Him “there is no variation or shadow of turning.” That speaks of His consistency and trustworthiness. Related to His consistency as a role .

model, our God is the “same yesterday, today, and forever” (Heb. 13:8). Such consistency, due to the fact they are not God, has not and cannot be demonstrated by our earthly fathers, though to varying degrees it may have been their desire to do so.

For their desire to do so and in the ways our earthly fathers have been godly role models let us be ever thankful. And, related to the degree to which our earthly fathers have been inconsistent as godly role models, necessitating our need to find answers and healing related to the challenges that has created, may we look to God as our source. That is not say He will not use godly men as part of the healing process.

Thus we should be open to His doing so. But it is to say that ultimately the good gifts, knowledge, wisdom and healing we are seeking find their origin in Him. Speaking of our heavenly Father, it is prudent to remember that sin is what separated mankind from Him in the first place. And it is the forgiveness made available by the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, which has

made unrestricted access to Him again available. When we confess our sins to God in the name of His Son the result is forgiveness. Our sins are not merely covered as the blood of bulls and goats did, but they are remitted, removed. Believing in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead and confessing Christ as Lord, we are born again or spiritually regenerated (Rom. 10:9-10). That being so, the search for our Father has ended. He has set us in His family and as those released from bondage prosperity Psalm 38:6 tells us should follow. We rejoice and in His presence grow in His grace (2 Pet. 3:18). We recognize our place as children of the light, light that is to shine to the world, revealing the way of salvation to those not knowing it, which is only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8; John 14:6)

The Silent Value of

Fathers By: Leon Gosiewski Although the life-long title of father begins when a man’s first child is born or he adopts a child, becoming a father is not the same as ‘being’ a father. What I mean by making this statement is that fathering a child can vary from an unintended relational outcome where a child was not really wanted or a casual chance meeting where Christian principles and true love do not exist.

Sadly, in some instances of one-night stands the father may not have actually been informed about the child’s birth and so the father figure is missing from the child’s life. Or this crucial fatherly missing link can occur where, by way of illustration fathers immediately or latterly abandon their responsibilities through ignorance or a failure to understand their precious callings.

The merry-go-round of poor fatherhood can, and often is generationally perpetuated because of poor role-models

who were themselves inadequately groomed, insufficiently loved and not shown or taught what fatherhood is all about. In contrast the respected existence of good paternal or adoptive fathers is wonderfully reflected through those that are selfless, loving, Godfearing, and nurtured on biblical principles.

In scenarios such as I have outlined, with casual onenight stand fathers and those that, for various reasons abandon their responsibility, we are often witnessing the terrible outcome of selfish sin in the world and its causal separation from God. Of course, in reality none of these situations have any part in God’s perfect plan or intention for humankind.

God has a better way but it requires love, self-sacrifice and obedience toward Him. In this sense being a good father applies to all men whether they have children of their own or not because

the biblical qualities of a father come from being a caring and dedicated follower of Christ. It is, to put what I am trying to say in another way, being a fatherfigure to those whom one meets in the course of daily living and seeing them through the eyes of Jesus.

With all this said, the awesome responsibility of becoming a father takes on a new and profound perspective when one realizes that the Bible says, ‘I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and

fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments’ (Exodus 20: 5). In this Scripture fathers are divinely appointed by God as biblically recognized leaders of their household. As fathers they are scripturally charged with the spiritual responsibility of putting God first and they are also required, as head of the household to make sure that nothing and no-one takes God’s place in either their or their family lives. Putting this Scripture into simple perspective, failure to safeguard God’s holy place in one’s own and family life means that it is possible for the sin of idolatry to pass down through three or four generations.

Idolatry! What does that mean? The first thought that may come to your mind when talking about idolatry probably involves those who bow or kneel and pray to a strange carved or moulded figure and certainly that is part of what idolatry means in the Bible. But far from being irrelevant to many of us today Paul outlines some deeper aspects of idolatry by saying, ‘Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity,

passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry’ (Colossians 3: 5).

In this statement Paul not only warns against earthly sexual immorality or ungodly snares of fornication, impurity, passion and evil desires which entrap and bring bondage to those that fall into their life-draining sticky and messy web, but he ends the list with the word covetousness, which he calls idolatry.

The word covetousness aptly covers several meanings such as: to have an envious longing or greed to have something; an insatiable yearning for material wealth; seeking to profit or gain by unfair means or valuing, wanting or putting something or someone in a prominent place in one’s life. In other words, it is putting a god in our life or removing creator God and Father from our central focus of attention.

When our Heavenly Father becomes disconnected from the central focus of our lives we open ourselves to sinfulness and idolatry. In fact, it is an open invitation to ungodliness. We lose heavenly spiritual perspective and focus instead on worldly sinful outlooks, perceptions and actions. Sin

reigns and holiness dies. At its worst evil forces take centre-stage and God is unceremoniously pushed away and placed out of sight.

The loving and unified family values that God intends now make way to dysfunctional, unloving and disparate households often leading to what we now call broken-homes.

Just as we are the influential imprint of our parents because as children we learn by example, so our children are the influential imprint of us. The worldly life we live is often imitated by our children. In various ways of thinking and acting children mimic us, they become like us, sometimes with terrible results.

At first glance the onus placed on fathers may have seemed very unfair to both the children of the immediate family and those in succeeding generations but let’s take a closer look at what God is really saying in Exodus 20: 5 when He said, ‘I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me’.

The first misunderstanding to clear-up in this scenario is

the often misquoted notion that the sins committed by a father are also held by God against a child. This is not true. The plain truth is that every person has responsibility for their own actions and decisions this is why Ezekiel said, ‘The soul that sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself’ (Ezekiel 18: 20).

This is partly why the cycle of poor fatherhood can easily be broken. So logically does this mean that there is a conflict in what the words attributed to Moses in Exodus 20: 5 say and those of the prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 18: 20 are saying?

Put briefly, let me assure you that the answer is no, but let me also take a little time to explain what God is saying.

God, our Heavenly Father is, for the Christian believer our definitive role-model, our ‘Abba, Father’ (Romans 8: 15). What we see and learn from Him is how we should live. How we live is the influential legacy that passes to our children and generationally to their children’s children. The

famous English Baptist minister and author Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834 – 1892) eloquently put what I have tried to say here in these words, ‘A father's holy life is a rich legacy for his sons’.

Fathers have a duty of calling to walk in God’s footsteps, not only in honour of Father God but also because in the natural scheme of parenting children follow the example set for them. Poor fatherly examples of character, speech and actions can rub-off and influence the child. The powerful effect of poor fatherly role-modelling is then repeated and so that is the warning message that God, as a wise, caring and loving Father is explaining.

By contrast, Fathers who are truly being fathers in the sight and influence of God are spiritually powerful. The well-known and much-loved American evangelist Billy Graham (1918 – present) succinctly and powerfully wrote, ‘A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.’ It is for reasons such as these that recognizing father’s on Father’s Day is so fitting.

There are many theories that surround the instigation of Father’s Day which was first celebrated in June 1910 at the birthplace of Mother’s Day in Spokane, Washington USA but none are perhaps more appropriately expressed than the American born story of Sonora Louise Smart Dodd (1882 – 1978), the loving daughter of an American Civil War veteran by the name of Henry Jackson Smart.

At the young age of sixteen Sonora’s mother sadly died during the birth of her sixth child. Being the eldest and only daughter Sonora became ‘mother’, sharing the role with her beloved father.

Whilst listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909 Sonora’s thoughts turned to her father who had quietly and without complaint made many personal sacrifices for both her and her brothers. Sonora passionately wanted her father to know how much she truly loved and appreciated him. She wanted him to know her gratefulness for his selfless, often unnoticed and unpraised courage and unconditional devotion. It was for these reasons that Father’s Day was originally a day set apart to honour the patience, love

and determination of Fathers who day-by-day selflessly care for their children. Red roses were also originally worn to honour living fathers and white to honour those that had died but not forgotten.

I hold a white rose for a man whom I loved more and more as I got older but sadly did not show it as I should have as a child and young man. I can genuinely say he

was a better example of a father than me. What I have written here is in honour of my father and only by the grace of God who has shown me that being a father is being His imitator. Being a father is expressing a father’s unconditional love toward God, his wife and his children.

fatherhood. Other fathers mourn inwardly the loss of their wife or child. Father’s Day can in this sense be a time of pain. It is right that fathers (and mothers) are gratefully honoured, prized and valued by their children.

Let’s not forget any of these wonderful examples of fathers in our society.

Many fathers like my own do not seek recognition; they just quietly and humbly live

This Father’s Day its time to switch gears so to speak from Mother’s Day when we take Mom out ( as in out of responsibility for cooking us a nice meal and Author: Chef Leo treating her as the Queen that she is! There is meat product that has it all… From the fire, smoke, heat and the Sweet… something that touches the inner food lover in all of us that reminds us of eating food cooked outside. There is a saying that Bacon is Meat Candy!…so let us give Dad some of that born of the fire, and naturally sweetened with sweetness from nature in its purest form which cooked with a little Love turns into something extremely special…and more versatile that it seems! So let us start by making the best Maple Candied Bacon Ever! Let’s start with the ingredients. Remember making this special is choosing each ingredient for quality and flavor. This makes the end product fantastic. I am going to make this recipe for one pound afterwards you will find it easy to double or triple.

MAPLE CANDIED BACON

First let me say that if you are a talented chef that does their own Charcuterie and can make their own bacon please do so! But as it is a long process I would not recommend this project be for a new comer to making bacon.

INGREDIENTS: 12-14 slices of ¼ inch sliced or 1 pound thick cut bacon.

Go to a grocery store with a good meat department and ask if they cut their own bacon…look for a nice Apple wood or Cherry wood or really any hardwood smoked bacon if they cut it tell them you are making Candied Bacon and need ¼ inch slices….Really? That thick?... The short answer is…Yes! Also make sure it is a meaty a belly as you can find…it will end up being many things and one is a Bacon Jerky type treat that will be awesome to take a chunk of into your mouth….Taste and See that the Lord is Good! As we “chew on” or meditate on the Word we want the Dad to taste the Love and quality in this…If you absolutely can’t get it sliced the as thick a sliced bacon as you can.

Pepper, Black, Red or Cayenne, and or Red Chile flake 1/2 cup granulated maple syrup 1/2 cup Maple or dark brown sugar ALSO NEEDED: Heavy-duty aluminum foil or parchment paper 2 baking or sheet pan of same size

INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Line a half sheet pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil (dull

side up!).

2. Mix the sugar and maple syrup together 3. Pour the maple sugar mix into a bowl and dredge the bacon

slices through, one at a time, pressing the bacon into the syrup and pressing to coat both sides. Season them with pepper and toss with the brown sugar.

4. Now….the pepper is very personal…hopefully you will know how much spice will please your “Dad”…I would season each side with black and red flake so as you could See the spice…if your “Dad” is a fire eater add Cayenne 1 tsp for mild 2 tsp for medium, 3 tsp for basic hot, 4 tsp for some sweat and sniffling hot….from there on your on your own! What I would take care of is placing the spice in the bacon so as to be seen.

5. Place them in a single layer on the foil lined pan, arranged so that they don't overlap at all. Drizzle or spoon the rest of the sugar mix over the bacon, top with another parchment or foil sheet. Place another pan right on top. This will keep it flat and look really nice.

6. Place the pan in a cold oven and set the heat to 325°F. Set the timer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, lift the pan and parchment and check the bacon. If it is not done, continue to cook and check each 5 minutes.

7. When done it should be a deep mahogany color and any sugar should be fully melted. It looks shiny and delicious.

Use tongs to transfer each slice, one at a time, to a clean porcelain, glass, ceramic, or pottery plate. Do not eat while hot from the oven or you may burn your mouth with the molten sugar/bacon fat. Let it cool at room temperature.

After it is cooled a bit, you can eat immediately or prepare for other uses.

8. IF and I mean IF you have leftovers… Refrigerated candied bacon may lose its gloss. To make it shiny again, warm for a few seconds at a time, until shiny again.

Now you are not done! This is the first step now a couple nice things to do…If Dad gets Breakfast… chop some up and put it in his pancake batter, then sprinkle some on top. Or on his Eggs and hash browns. If he gets a special burger or Hot dog You place it on top, or wrap the dog in it…the possibilities are endless. If there is a special sweet treat the sweet spicy saltiness goes well with any cake, donut, cupcake, ice cream sundae…As Salt works well with Caramel even dipping it in chocolate for the ultimate Bacon Dads Day!

Happy Father’s Day! Whether you are a new father, an old father, a grandfather, a stepfather, or a father-in-law, you deserve honor on Father’s Day. Whether you are a serious father, a hilarious father, or even a boring father, this day is for you! But there is one kind of father God expects you to be. That is a good father. Ephesians 6:4 says, “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the trainings and instruction of the Lord.” Exasperate means: to annoy, irritate, or enrage. Fathers should not push their children to rage or to annoy them on purpose. I have seen some fathers who make fun of their children because they did not come in first place in a sporting event, rather than being proud simply because their child did their best. Their best should be good enough for you. It is certainly is good enough for God! If you have been an overbearing father, sit back and ask yourself, “Would I want my Dad treating me like I am treating my child?” If all you come up with is, “This is how my Dad treated me,” that is not good enough. Take a challenge from Faith Unlimited and become the father God wants you to be to your children. Love them, talk to them, and respect them as you want to be treated. God Bless You! A few

different people tried to set up a special day to celebrate fathers for different reasons.

In 1908, a church in West Virginia sponsored the nation’s first event in memory of men who had lost their lives in the Fairmont Coal Company mines.

However, this was only done one time. Then in 1909 a lady in Washington by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd, one of six children who was raised by a widower, went to several organizations to get support to establish an official day, similar to Mother’s Day for male parents. So that year, the State of Washington celebrated their first Father’s Day. President Wilson and President Coolidge were behind this new holiday, but during that time, many people opposed it. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, some wanted to combine Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and have a “Parent’s Day.” But because this was during the Great Depression, buying extra gifts made it hard on people.

However, by the end of World War II, Father’s Day had grown to be known nationally. It was not until 1972; that President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making Father’s Day a federal holiday.

So fathers, you are on the calendar. You are a special person.

And I’m sure everyone who reads this article has someone in your life that is very special to you. Whether that is your Dad, or your Step Dad, or maybe a Grandfather. Or maybe it is a husband that has shown you just what father’s day is really all about. If he has shown your children the one true Father God and how to live a Christian life, then he has done his job with excellence.

Our job on this earth is to live a life for Jesus Christ, to share Him with those we come in contact with, and to raise our family to also love Jesus Christ and serve Him as Lord and Savior. John 3:16 is the greatest love story verse in the Bible. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that

whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Our Father God loved us so much that He gave His only son.

Fathers, what would you do for your children? Would you give them the ultimate gift? Well, that gift is not a new car or anything of earthly value. It is sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with your children, so they will have an ETERNAL life with you in Heaven.

I want to wish each and every one of you Fathers a wonderful Father’s Day. May you know your Father God, and share Him with your children. God Bless You!

TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. + marinating Grill: 70 min.

MAKES: 4 servings

Ingredients        

4-1/2 pounds pork baby back ribs 1 bottle (2 liters) cola 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt aspoon dried oregano 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

 

BARBECUE SAUCE:



1/4 cup ketchup 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup molasses 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/2 teaspoon salt

    

Directions 1. Place the ribs in large resealable plastic bags; add cola. Seal bags and turn to coat; refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.

2. Drain and discard cola. Pat ribs dry with paper towels. Combine the seasonings; rub over ribs.

3. Prepare grill for indirect heat, using a drip pan. Place ribs over pan; grill, covered, over indirect medium heat for 1 hour, or until tender, turning occasionally.

4. In a small bowl, combine barbecue sauce ingredients. Brush over ribs; grill, covered, over medium heat 10-20 minutes longer or until browned, turning and basting occasionally. Yield: 4 servings.

As you know, Father's Day is approaching and it's a time to celebrate the amazing, selfless father in our lives. It's a time to honor him, buy him a nice gift, get him a card, and eat some good food. Not everyone is able to celebrate this international holiday because not everyone is fortunate enough to have this kind of a father, or even have a father in their life at all. It's a very hard thing, it feels like there is a void in your heart, a void that you don't know how to fill.

Some teenagers are turning to drinking, doing drugs, and are having sex to try and fill this emptiness that they have inside. None of this will fill this void, but soon they will see that this only makes the emptiness that they have inside far worse. The only way to truly fill this void is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. When you do just this, you become a part of God's family. You become His child and He becomes your Father. It's kind of like getting adopted, when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior those adoption papers are signed!

The New International version of Ephesians 1:5 says,”He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--” The only condition is that you must serve God with your whole heart and turn away from a life of sin. That's it! If you're still not sure, let me assure you that this Father isn't anything like the one you have on this earth. The New International version of Deuteronomy 31: 8 says, ”Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

The English Standard Version of Psalm 27:10 says,” For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.” Maybe your father here on this earth said that he would always be there for you and then left you for a woman. Although your father lied, I want you to know that Father God cannot lie, it's impossible. The New International Version of Numbers 23:19 says,” God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”

If you want to, you can now have a father in your life! One that is even better than any other father on this earth can ever be! One who will never leave you, lie to you, or hurt you in anyway. One that will completely fill that void in your heart.

The New Living Version of Romans 10:9 says,” If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If you want to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, you must believe the following without a single doubt and repeat with your mouth to God the following prayer: God, I believe that you sent your one and only son, Jesus Christ who is the Lord, to die on the cross for my sins. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead on the third day so that I won't have to live a life of sin, and so that I don't have to go to hell when I die. I will go to heaven to be with you. Forgive me for my sin. I accept you right now as my Lord and Savior in Jesus name.

If you said this prayer out loud, meant it whole heartily, and believed it, your adoption into God's family is now official! Congratulations! Spend time with your Father God daily by reading your Bible and praying. Don't go back to your old ways. It may take some time, but before you know it God will completely heal that hole that you have in your heart!

by: Kathy Weddle I was raised in the 50’s and 60’s when boys and girls were totally separated in abilities and opportunities. My dad was what I call an “equal opportunity dad”. He didn’t see me as a girl with limits and restrictions. He simply saw me as “Kathy”. So on Saturday mornings, I got up with him, and after breakfast we made the rounds, bank, grocery store, hardware store, Western Auto, my uncle’s Davis paint store, and last, the neighborhood service station. I got to pump the gas and clean windows and check oil (with a bit of help from the gas jockey, of course). I got to “chew the fat” with the guys, watch the machine shake up the paint, put air in the tires, learn what all the nails in the nail bins were, and pick out groceries.

At home, we got out Dad’s carpenter tools and built stuff. Lots of stuff. We mowed grass, planted gardens, raked leaves. I didn’t know that was what you normally do with a son. Dad treated me like a person, not a gender.

And yet, when Mom took the curlers out of my long blond hair and put

ruffles and lace on me, Dad made sure I knew I was pretty.

We played every night after he came home. Where he got the energy, I’ll never know. We watched TV together, went on vacations, fishing, ball games…on and on.

He and Mom encouraged me to be whatever was in my heart. There was never a distinction made as to limits.

So I didn’t know I had any.

The most important part about my dad was he was one of the Godliest men I’ve ever known. He raised the bar for fatherhood because he was everything he appeared to be. He intensely loved God, his country, my mother, and me, then later, he loved his grandchildren and taught them the same way he’d taught me. Literally to the end of his life, he was working on ways to reach people for Jesus. As a family, we went to church any time there was a service.

We served at church; my parents volunteered in any area needed. I could count on Saturday evenings being spent

studying for the Sunday School lesson.

Prayers at every meal, real ones, not the little rhymes. Bible reading every night. I don’t know any other way to be than to try and emulate my parents because they were so REAL. I’m always amazed at the number of people in our current society who believe dads are expendable. Neither Mom OR Dad is expendable. As for dads, where else does a little girl learn how she’s supposed to be treated as a woman? And until recently, it was exclusively dads who went to war to fight for the safety and freedom of families. Unfortunately, there are a lot of missing fathers, and fathers who don’t act like fathers, and every family suffers for it. So does society, and so does the posterity of the family.

Dads, for better or worse, set the standard by which a child will judge

God. If Dad is non-existent, it will be difficult for a child to see the need for a paternal type God. If he is abusive, they’ll likely have trust and anger issues. It is a delicate and fragile balance. Where there is a father who acts the way our Heavenly Father indicated he should, the children in his household have a much better chance at solid relationships with male authority figures, teachers, husbands, even pastors.

This month we salute and uplift fathers.

And we remind them, there are dads reading this who have perhaps not given their all to their family, God will give you the grace to change, to correct, to adjust; to recommit, and be part of the healing process in your family. We need every one of you.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:12, KJV) Last month, I wrote about Mother’s Day. In the article, I stated, "For some, this day is an amazing day of special time spent honoring moms. For others, it’s a sad day that stands as an annual reminder of a great void in their lives.” and "Whether you find yourself on the top of the spectrum celebrating your mother or at the bottom wishing for something that has never been, please spend the next few moments with me and allow me to share my testimony with you." As we celebrate Father’s Day, I would like to share the remainder of my testimony.

I believe it will encourage you and help you encourage others!

(Revelation 12:11) In last month’s article, I explained my mother was tragically killed when I was two years old. The

remainder of my testimony is, I do not know who my biological father is.

There is a man who I was told was my father, for confidentiality purposes we will call him “Bob". I met “Bob” when I was 19 years old; however, we never made a connection.

Approximately two years later, “Bob” told me he isn’t my father.

One child with no connection to either biological parents. (John 10:10, Isaiah 54:17, Romans 8:28) But no matter what “Bob” said, my final authority established absolute truth in my heart. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) God said: For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26, NLT) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:12, KJV)

Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty. (2 Corinthians 6:17-18) Since God be for us, who can stand against us?

(Romans 8:31) Glory hallelujah!

As Father’s Day approaches, if you find yourself wishing for something that has never been, I can tell you from personal experience you are not fatherless. God welcomes you. God loves

you. He is our Ultimate Father. (1 John 3, 2 Corinthians 6:17-18) If you have been struggling in this area, please speak the following scriptures over yourself at least once a day. It will change your life!

I, _______________(your name) am a child of God, through faith in Christ Jesus! (Galatians 3:26) I, _______________(your name) have received him and I believe on his name

so he has given me power to become a child of God! (John 1:12) I, _______________(your name) have come out from among unbelievers and separated myself from them, God welcomes me!

He is my Father!

If you have not received Jesus, (John14:6), please pray this simple prayer out loud with me, “Father God, in the name of Jesus, I welcome Your Son Jesus into my heart. In

Romans 10:9, Your Word says, if I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and You raised Him from the dead, that I will be saved. Father, I thank You for saving me! I thank You for welcoming me! I thank You for being my Father!

Thank You for never leaving me or forsaking me!" (Deuteronomy 31:6) Please find a good bible based church and never give up! (Galatians 6:9) Welcome to the family!

THAT’S JUST LIKE OUR DADDY! by: Kim Miller When you are in a close relationship of any kind with someone, you get to know them. Our Father God desires that we get to know Him more and more! He knows us and loves us! He knows the good, the bad, and the ugly things about us. He doesn't look at us and see those things. He sees us

through the blood of Jesus. The Bible says that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, His own special people who are to show His praises. See 1 Peter 2:9. We are His chosen people! He chose you and He chose me! You are not rejected! You have been chosen by God Himself, the King of kings and Lord of lords! You can't get any

better than that. We must get to know our Father God and His character in order for us to be able to receive the things that He has done for us. This comes by studying the Bible, spending quality time with Him daily, and deciding to be a doer of His Word. This is how we "abide in Him." We'll get stronger, know Him more and more, and there will be more of His character we will live out in our lives. When the hard times come, we will know and understand that God is good. We will know His character, just like we know the ones we are close to. We will know that God doesn't send us sickness. That is not our Father God's character. God is good and we will know "that is just like our Daddy" to bless us, deliver us, and be good to us in every way! Dig into God's Word and begin to learn Who He is. Make it personal! The goodness of

God depicted in His Word is His goodness towards you! His salvation, healing, prosperity, etc. is for YOU! Read 1 Corinthians 13. God is love and when you read it, realize that is Father God's love towards you. Romans 5:5 says that His love is poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. He loves us and we can know that He loves us. When we begin to really know that He does, we'll begin to want to

love others. We have the ability to love others because His love is in our hearts. When we walk in love, the people around us will realize that there is something different about us. John 13:35 says, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.� When people see you loving others, they will see you living "just like our Daddy!" You'll be showing others Who He is. He is love!

Every day is "Father's Day" to me. I have decided daily to honor my Father God. It is my goal to know Him more and more, to live my life to glorify Him. My husband, Pastor Gary Miller is a wonderful husband and father. I try my best to honor him and show him appreciation every day. I'm not always right on target the way I'd like to be with that, as there is always room for improvement. As a wife, I'm always looking for ways to

show my appreciation and love for him, not just on special occasions, but every day. Let's give honor to our Father God, not just on special occasions, such as church days, but every day! He is worthy of our honor. That is "just like our Daddy" to continually love us. He's the best Daddy there is!

by: Rev. Melissa Shepherd The greatest father I have ever known is not my own father, for I was not privileged to know my father very long, and he is with God in Heaven now.

It was also not my step-fathers, nor my grandfather, who were all hard-working and intelligent men. The greatest father I have ever known is my husband, Bill Shepherd. The wisdom and grace of God pours from him every day. I have seen his father’s heart toward our children and grandchildren, toward nieces and nephews, and also to everyone he meets. He has a deep, Godly love for people, all people. He has such an intense desire to help others to know God and the Word.

Everywhere we go, God blesses him with gifts, insight, knowledge and grace to reach out to the hurting, the blessed, the lost, and the found. Bill can’t resist helping others and reaching out to lift them up, because he was created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27 27 So God created man in

His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them, Some of the most touching and sweet things about him can be seen when we care for the grandchildren. The moment the grandkids come over, Bill turns on the Sunday school sing-a-long songs and begins to sing songs about God with them.

Next, he reads the stories of Noah and others.

Then, it is time for snacks and teaching them how to pray and shout Hallelujah! He always makes sure they are well-fed, protected, and focused on things of God. He holds them when they have a boo-boo. He knows how to turn their frown to a smile. He has a way with them that brings them such joy. Our grandchildren just want to be close to him, to climb on him, to play chase, to listen to him read and make the animal sounds from the Noah story. It seems as if time stops when they are here and the entire universe is only about them and our moments with them. His way of

connecting with them is profound, and beautiful. Bill is powerful and full of intensity, but gentle as a dove.

His wisdom and understanding in every situation in our family is from God alone.

Many times, each of the grandkids has said to us, “Can we live here with you?” It is always a joy to hear that they enjoy spending time with us. They are very precious and we love them very much.

John 13:34-35 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will

know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

My husband, Bill Shepherd, gives his full time and attention to impart God to others in every measure possible. He lays down his life constantly in order to allow God and His Holy Spirit to pour through him to others.

He is tireless, always ready to lend a hand to anyone, to be there to pray, encourage and visit the sick, or to help bring freedom to anyone caught in captivity.

His faithfulness to God, the Word of God, and to me, inspires me deeply and he encourages me daily to concentrate my time and energy into being about my Father’s business, reaching the lost and sharing the love of Jesus with them, teaching them about the Kingdom of Heaven and how to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and Love of Christ. Bill seizes every moment to build God’s family and kingdom and teaches others to do the same. He is my husband, but he is also my mentor and I have the utmost

respect for him and am so thankful God sent him to me!

As his wife, I have seen the nature of God incarnate in him.

How he loves and forgives others and prays for those who have hurt him or persecuted him is evidence that the power and love of God Almighty rests within him. He is a living example of God’s grace and mercy.

Ephesians 5: 1-2 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Just like I have seen my husband do, God is always reaching for people and always striving with them to help them have all of His promises and help them to walk with Him in their lives.

Bill always sees people as they are meant to be, whole, healthy, thriving, full of faith,

overcomers, blessed, and walking into their destiny.

God gives him these prophetic views of what their lives could look like if they chose God’s Word and learned to speak His Word over themselves and their lives and gives Bill anointing to pray with them and break every hindrance from their lives.

Jeremiah 29.11 For I know the thoughts and plans I have for you, says the Lord, a plan for hope and a future and not to harm you.

Being blessed to be Bill’s wife is a great honor for I am reminded every moment of every day of God’s goodness, His steadfastness, and His unwavering faith in us as Bill allows the goodness of God to manifest through him. God is our loving Father, His promises and Word are true, and my husband, and father of our children and grandchildren, is living proof of the goodness of God! Thank you my sweet husband for being the greatest father I have ever known!

Last year on Halloween evening, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm we had a Revival On Our Doorstep! ™ We prayed with 58 children and 21 youth and adults to receive JESUS CHRIST in their hearts! We also gave them a Gospel tract and good candy! It was so heartwarming to see the children and parents smiling and even crying as the Lord touched them at our doorstep as we prayed with them. One mother asked us to pray for her 10year-old son who was at home very sick. This mom cried big tears as we prayed for her son and sweetly said, “Thank you for caring enough to pray.” As we watched her tears, we were reminded of what Jesus said, “Whoever in My name and for My sake accepts and receives and welcomes one such child also accepts and receives and welcomes Me and whoever so receives Me, receives not only Me, but also Him who sent Me.” Mark 9:37

The Great Rift Valley is part of an intra-continental ridge system that runs through Kenya from north to south. It is part of the Gregory Rift, the eastern branch of the East African Rift, which starts in Tanzania to the south and continues northward into Ethiopia.

Well at last I am home from my trip to Nairobi, Nakuru, and Kisii Kenya. I had a great time with the people in Kenya, they are great! It always blesses me to see the hunger in the people; they will set and hear the Word all day long, and even into the night.

I will share a few highlights of this wonderful trip. I left my state of Missouri on March 30 th from St. Louis, MO at 2:30 PM. We flew with the American Airlines to catch my over seas flight at Dallas/Fort Worth, which By: Pastor Jimmie Lewis would take me to Doha, Qatar airways. Thirteen hours later, I was in Doha waiting for the next flight that would take me to Nairobi. The ride from Doha to Nairobi was 6 hours. I landed in Nairobi at12:30 A.M. on April 2nd.

Was I ready to get my feet on the ground? The answer was YES! That very day the convention started, which I did attend after a short time, with only a little sleep.

We had a great convention, with over 500 people plus more in the overflow, who were all very hungry for the Word of the Lord, and a move of the Spirit. All I can say is, “Praise the Lord of Glory for His Presence in that place!” In those times, one just doesn’t want to say anything. But I thank God that I had the honor to share with these great people; His Word that He dropped in my heart.

Brother Enoch Asulwisye from Mbeya, in Tanzania and Brother Josphat Kariuki, from between Nairobi & Naburu, Kenya, traveled with me while I was in Kenya. The dinner lines during the convention were very long. There were 5 other ministers plus myself ministering at the convention.

Then on the sixth, we left for Kisii, Kenya. On our way to Kisii, we were blessed to see part of the Rift Valley. It is very beautiful! We were in Kisii from the 7th through the 15th of April. Brother Elijah Ombiro put us in a hotel and took very good care of us. Hot water and good food was provided for us. We took a day of rest, and then from April 8-10 I was involved in Pastors and Leaders Conference Meetings. What a great time that was! People were so happy and joyful and greeted us with wide open arms.

During one of the meetings, a brother ask prayer for his daughter. She had left home with a rope to hang herself. So we all prayed, and as we did, the Lord spoke a Word to me for the girl’s father. I was a little hesitant to give it, but the Lord made a way, so I told him, “The Lord said, ‘My Word is greater than the rope, I will seize her, I will arrest her.’” The next day, the girl’s father had a testimony that his daughter had come home! So we praise God for He is faithful!

On April 11th and 12th, Brother Elijah took us around to seven churches, where we had the opportunity to preach. On April 13, he also took us on tour to two Orphanages, one for girls and one for boys that he takes care of. My heart went out to all of these very special people, they have great needs. It would just make you cry to see all of the needs! If not, one would be very cold hearted not to feel compassion for them!

April 14 was more evangelism. Had I wrote down all that happened, I could write many more pages about my trip! What a good time we had there! I had met Brother Elijah on Facebook through Dr. Bill and Faye Hanshew!

Our last day of ministering in Kisii was April 15, and then we headed to Nakuru to be with Geoffery Kimini. There we had two services on the 16th and 17th of April. I had a great time there with them; they are longtime friends so it was wonderful to see them again.

Then we headed back to Nairobi for a little rest on the 18 th. We were going to be with a great Brother and Sister in Nairobi for a night, then to church on Sunday morning before going to the airport to catch my flight home. We all had a great dinner with Brother David and family before leaving for home. They are great hosts! His wife can cook anything you may like. She made me a big burger and some pizza!

On the 19th, I was to leave for home, but before I did, we had another service at 10:00 AM. I shared God’s Word with the people of Africa one more time before leaving. They are great and very special people chosen for greatness! .As I said my goodbyes to Nairobi and to some of the greatest Brothers and Sisters ever, I was ready for home sweet home!

After 6 hours, I was in Doha Qatar for an 8 hour layover. From there I had a 14 hour flight to Chicago O’Hare, and then one hour to St. Louis.

It was wonderful to meet my beautiful wife, Sarah, my great grandson, and a couple from our church at St Louis where they were waiting for me. I was so happy to be home, I wanted to kiss the ground they were standing on! There is no place like home!

But with all that said, I did have a most successful time pouring myself out to the people of God. The door is open to all, they are waiting for you! It’s a wonderful world and people are crying for more truth on the Kingdom of God, and the finished work of the cross. They are on tip toes to see the wonderful sight of the Son of God coming into their own. Thank you for all your prayers, as they did prevail. Again, thank each one of you who held me up.

Pastor Jimmie said, “They need a lot of things at the orphanages. I have seen this with my own eyes, so I do know the needs are great. Open your hearts, if you can!�
