First Responders Mass Honoring All Who Serve
Five Father Ryan Students Receive National Merit Recognition
On September 19, we hosted All-School Mass in honor of members of our community who provide help to those in immediate need: our first responders. We know that firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other medical personnel risk their own lives daily while providing help and healing to others. Our community is better for it.
Five Father Ryan High School students from the Class of 2024 have received National Merit recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. National Merit Semi-Finalist Evan Jaeger National Merit Commended Scholars Victoria Baltz Matthew Shorey Grace Sizemore Will Thompson
During the month of October, the Father Ryan community continues to pray in a special way that God will give us hearts to serve. Thank you to all First Responders for your continuous bravery and service to your communities.
In making the announcement, Principal Frank Espinosa said, "When you think about the gravity of this accomplishment, approximately 1.6 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT in their junior year of high school, and of those students, Father Ryan High School has five students receiving National Merit recognition. Of the five, four are recognized as Commended Scholars who scored in the top 3-4% of the PSAT/NMSQT, and one student has qualified as a Semi-Finalist scoring in the top 1% of the 1.6 million junior students who sat for the same exam. This is a wonderful achievement and one that enhances the capacity of our students." To learn more about each of these outstanding students and their accomplishments, click here.
Department Spotlight: Personal Counseling The Father Ryan Personal Counseling team provides information and support that encourage the development of healthy habits and skills in order to maintain and achieve academic success and personal growth. The department offers classroom and small group presentations, individual counseling, crisis intervention, referrals to outside support, and collaboration with parents, teachers, and school administration.
Homecoming 2023 The week of Homecoming is always one of the most exciting times in Ryan Nation! We kicked off the celebration with Spirit Week, a week of themed days where students can dress up to win participation points for their House. From USA Day to Gone Fishin', students, faculty, and staff loved celebrating in their creative outfits!
Additionally, the Personal Counseling department offers a peer mentoring program to support students who are new or transferring to Father Ryan. Our Peer Mentors act as guides and leaders to promote the academic, social, and emotional adjustment of new students. These individuals are upperclassmen who have displayed leadership skills, a service attitude, and a desire to help. Each Peer Mentor is recruited, screened, trained, and supported by the Personal Counseling staff.
After a half day of classes on Friday, our students enjoyed a special Homecoming Lunch with 13 food trucks on campus, followed by House Games. During House Games, students select various academic, artistic, and athletic events to participate in to win House points. Our House System Motto - 6 Houses. All Irish. - is never more true than it is on Homecoming. On Friday, students came together to cheer on the Irish at the football game! Our "Purple Out" student section enjoyed watching the game and celebrating our new Homecoming Queen, Katie Green '24 from Emerald House. The addition of 1,300+ Junior Irish members at Junior Irish Night made Homecoming even more special! With carnival games, a DJ, swag bags, and more, it was one of our favorite nights at Father Ryan yet. We extend a special thank you to the six schools that hosted booths at the event, Christ the King School, Holy Rosary Academy, St. Bernard Academy, St. Edward School, St. Joseph School, and St. Rose of Lima School. To wrap up one of the best weeks of the year, our students attended the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night on the Academic Lawn. It was a beautiful night to dance under the stars after a successful Homecoming Week!
