Father Ryan's 97th Graduating Class
On Saturday, May 13, we welcomed graduates of the Class of 2023 into the Father Ryan Alumni Association. This class was filled with scholars, artists, athletes, and servants whose talents and successes in the classrooms and throughout our community will take them to new heights. We are so proud of the Class of 2023 for the hard work they have put in over the last four years, and for the impact they have made on the Father Ryan community forever.

These graduates earned over $34 million in scholarships, an average of more than $152,000 per graduate
The members of the Class of 2023 were accepted to 255 unique colleges and universities and will attend 88 different institutions across 31 states
In addition, the class showed its commitment to volunteerism, completing 12,334 service hours during their time at Father Ryan.
Father Ryan High School's Relay for Life raised more than $183,542 for cancer research and was named the #1 Student-Led Relay for Life in the country!
At graduation, Salutatorian Mark Ciampa (Vanderbilt University) kicked off the ceremony with an uplifting speech, reflecting on how the Class of 2023 defied convention by forging their unique identities to make an impact on Father Ryan’s history. Valedictorian Katie Cummings (University of Michigan) took her peers on a journey throughout Father Ryan’s campus with reminders of the memories they have made and the positive impact of their relationships with their teachers.

Irish Alumnus Named Teacher of the Year
In addition to celebrating the outstanding men and women in the Class of 2023 over graduation weekend, we celebrated Coach Patrick Simpson '74, who was named the Bishop Alphonse J. Smith Teacher of the Year. This Irish alumnus serves as a Social Sciences teacher and Head Wrestling Coach and has been making a positive impact on the Father Ryan community since he joined us in 1979.

The Bishop Smith Outstanding Teacher Award is an award that was established in 2011. Its purpose is to recognize the teacher, nominated by the faculty and staff, who best embodies the school’s mission “to be an experience of the living Gospel while challenging students to reach their spiritual, academic, and personal potential.” This person lives out the ideals of faith, knowledge, and service in his/her daily life.

Coach Simpson was nominated due to his hard work, commitment, and dedication to motivating students inside and outside the classroom. Nominating faculty and staff members wrote, “He is a role model for students, athletes, and colleagues. My day is always made better by the kindness shown to me by Pat. Faith is always at the center of everything he does.” From his success on the wrestling mat as a two-time National Wrestling Coach of the Year to his success in the classroom motivating students to put forth their best academic effort, he is incredibly deserving of this honor.
Congratulations, Coach Simpson, on an honor well-deserved. Thank you so much for all you do!

Junior Irish Night
With graduation ceremonies behind us and another action-packed school year in the books, we can look forward to summer for some much-needed warm weather, quieter days, and time to reflect.
Our students are truly exceptional young men and women who are learning, growing, and teaching us every day about what it means to embody lives of Faith, Knowledge, and Service. It is an honor to serve them and our Junior Irish families throughout the year. We will return with the next issue of Junior Irish News in September. Until then, if you need to reach either of us for any reason, do not hesitate to call us at 615-383-4200.
