Performing to Royal Marine standards Following the Fastener Industry Five A Side football tournament in July, male testosterone (if not sanity) was clearly running high at Performance Fasteners. The team came up with one of ‘those’ ideas for raising money for charity: The Royal Marines 10 kilometre Commando Challenge.

he event is held every year to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance and the Royal Marines Trust Fund. The grueling challenge involves a 3km mountain run, a 4km Marine assault course (involving underground tunnels, wading through mud and the infamous sheep dip tunnel dunk) to be finished off with a 3km return mountain run. On Saturday 6th October Cliff Roberts, director of Performance Fasteners Ltd, and his team completed The Royal Marine Commando Challenge in Exeter. They finished the course in a remarkable time of 1 hour 54 minutes and, to their astonishment, finished eight out of 128 teams. Some performance for a bunch of old guys! Cliff says there are lots of photos of their punishment for your amusement by emailing him at cliff@performancefastenersltd.co.uk He added: “For charity I’ve climbed Ben Nevis, completed a Royal Marine Course and now I’m getting a little old so if anyone has any more charity ideas can it please be land based and a slow pace!” Performance Fasteners would like to thank all in our trade who sponsored Cliff and the boys. The team raised over GB£1,300, which contributed to a weekend total of just under GB£250,000 for the charities.
