SILHOUETTES & ILLUSTRATIONS FORECAST A / W ’15-16 & S/S '16 The international runway reports are carefully consolidated and put together after reviewing the runway shows of the top fashion capitals in the world- New York, London, Milan, Paris and Miami for Swimwear. There are themes, general looks, silhouettes, prints, colours and detail trends that are picked out, separately for womenswear by analyzing all the shows, keeping the best- selling and most popular trends of the season in mind. The menswear show for spring summer 2015 revolved around London’s mix of tradition and contemporary designs to a sober tour in Milan, to a complete rock fest at our final destination of Paris. For womenswear, it was all about dialing back to the 70’s. The cities gave a choice between disco and Woodstock bohemia in their own distinct ways.

ROBE COAT 2

Leaving last Fall’s fascination with the bulky blanket coats behind, next Fall, the runway will be flooded with the robe coat. The uncomplicated silhouette achieves novelty through different prints and fabrics- fuzzy emerald coloured, cinched with a leather belt, or oversized in plaid checks. Fabric belts tighten the waist, keeping the cozy in, while exaggeration can be achieved by opting for bigger lapels in a solid colour blocked version.

LAYERED KNIT A layered sweater dress has all the qualities of a stellar, ready-to-wear separate. Uncomplicated construction aside, what makes this trend even more viable is its direct association with the much-accepted phenomenon of relaxed contours. Most versions can keep the silhouette devoid of any fit as the silhouette mostly knocks on knits and chunky woollens for its slack structure.

KNIT CAPE From cape coats, designers have transcended to knits for constructing roomy throwovers with a visibly cozy demeanour. While the ones in flat knits have come across as sweater kimonos, in some cases printed, and in others with thick cable and circular knits, will make a promising appearance. Form-fitting pullovers with an attached shoulder trail, or ponchos in blanket fabric and ending in tassels, the circular knit styles appeal for their lighter structure and contoured fit.

ASYMMETRIC DRESS Sharp edges, uneven hemlines, languid necklines, folding and overturning are adopted so the silhouette conforms to the mismatched and unequal trend on skirts or dresses that are cut in angular shapes. Spliced fabrics can be reassembled in geometric shapes on sheer bases, bias cut forms presented on skirts, uneven hemlines defining the dresses, one-shoulder garments and multiple layers render a sense of unevenness to the garment.

SKATER SKIRT Skater skirts and dresses whirled on the Fall runway as designers make the circular silhouette more wearable. Alternating between mild to heavy, the waist accentuating flare of the skater is delivered in winter appropriate longer hems; some couturiers go the dramatic route with their overblown dresses and skirts. The rendition of the trend in leather (suede and soft qualities) call out to the rocker chic, while fine twill and tweed celebrate vintage glamour.

CROP TOP & WIDE LEGGED PANTS The 1990s trend of high-waisted trousers and Spice Girl inspired crop tops will make a comeback this year, with the top being loose-fitted focusing on comfort and the sleeves bordering on rigid and structured. The cropped top can have details on the back or a layered top over it for a sporty vibe. Relaxed wide-legged pants accompany the top perfectly as they create ease in movement and functionality.
