FARWEST HERALD CANADIANS CELEBRATE FIRST FILIPINO HERITAGE MONTH IN JUNE FROM COAST TO COAST

Vibrant. Pulsating. Resolute. Filipino Canadian associations, across Canada, continue to hold cultural festivities serving as platforms in showcasing Filipino heritage thru art, music, dance, fashion, culinary arts. This month of June started off with a robust celebration of the following milestones: 1. The National Filipino Heritage Month, pursuant to Private Members’ Business M-155 introduced in the House of Commons in October 2018- declaring the month of June as Filipino Heritage Month across Canada. 2. June 12, 2019 is the 121st anniversary of Philippine Independence Day 3. The commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Canada diplomatic relations. These festivities alongside flag raising ceremonies aim to inform and elevate awareness of the Philippine heritage and culture to the mainstream society and gearing towards the benefit of the younger generation.

70 REASONS AND MORE TO CELEBRATE FILIPINOS IN CANADA The year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and the Philippines which range from people-to-people cooperation, education, and trade.

Other Activities Marking Philippine Independence Day and Filipino Heritage Month The Consulate General attended the reception launching the photo exhibit ``Larawan``, meaning portrait. The event was organized by Philippine Advancement Through Arts and Culture (PATAC) as part of the Filipino Heritage Month celebration. The exhibit will feature portraits of Filipino-Canadians whose work and story has inspired the Filipino community and highlight their positive contributions to Toronto, Canada. The portraits were taken by Christian Ryan, PATAC`s feature artist for 2019 and will be displayed in various locations across Toronto.
