Technology and its impact on Healthcare

The integration of technology in our daily life has been immaculate in the upgradation of our standards of living in the past decade. Keeping in line with the trend, more and more technological innovations are finding their way into the field of medicine.

Nowadays, with the help of virtual medicine, a patient can consult a doctor on the other side of the globe, and have diagnoses and medicines with the help of a robotic pharmacy. The pharmacies in Dubai are making what seems like science fiction turn into reality

Telemedicine:

Telemedicine is the process of providing remote clinical services, via a real-time two-way communication system, using audio and visual means. It allows the patient to seek the doctor's advice virtually for nonemergency complications.

The Dubai RoboDoc initiative is one of the first such telemedicine projects which has been approved to be rolled out across the Dubai Health Authority Facilities(DHA).

3D modelling:

Around the world healthcare professionals are using 3D printing and modelling as reference tools for preoperative planning, It's slowly taking its place as a crucial mandate in complex surgeries. Being able to visualize the patient's condition and practising beforehand gives an advantage to the doctors prior to surgery.

Robotic pharmacy :

We have all been a victim of long lines at the pharmacy. A solution to this is the robotic pharmacy. Approved by the DHA the automated dispensaries are capable of satisfying 12 prescriptions per minute. Everything is automated thereby reducing human errors, with greater speed and efficiency. Now you can walk into any clinic in Barsha and expect to have the right dose of your medicines sorted by a robot.

5

Digitisation :

UAE has been striving towards the digitization of patient records into a paperless system. Shifting to a paperless system will improve the patient experience by making it easier to dispense services more quickly.

Also, it makes it easier to share data between medical institutes and provides a seamless experience for the patients.

6

Health Apps:

Health apps are the new norm nowadays. One is able to find a wide variety of apps on the app store which can do various tasks such as tracking stages of pregnancy or making it fun for your children to drink water. Such apps also help you to track your meetings with doctors and provide a wealth of medical information in the form of videos, articles, audio, etc.

7

Security Measures:

Sifting all data to a digital platform comes with the responsibility of cybersecurity. The UAE is taking various steps to bolster its cybersecurity department. Various security projects are already underway as per the guidelines of the DHA.

All in all, technology has a great role to play in the medical field. The day is not far when you can consult any doctor around the globe from the comfort of your own home or while enjoying time in a shopping centre Dubai. From saving patients during surgeries to healthcare at your doorstep, there is a lot of growth potential in this sector.
