Many thanks to our wonderful volunteer, Syajah Wrighton, who has been diligently working to replenish the seeds in our seed library. Most of the vegetable varieties we had before will be available again, along with several new seed types. We will also have herb and flower seeds!

February Events

Celebrate the joy of friendship at the Library! While the name suggests gals, this event is open to any adult who wants to make a new friend

Tea and treats will be served, but feel free to bring a favorite from home to share with the group.

“Know It, Control It" is a program designed to help people self-monitor their blood pressure and make healthy lifestyle changes to control it.

This program runs 8 weeks on Wednesday mornings at 10am beginning March 5 and ending April 23. Each week, a different topic will be discussed and incentives with be given away to assist participants with implementing the strategies.

Be Your Own Hero: Paper Bag Princess Day

Join us for Paper Bag Princess Day: Be Your Own Hero We'll meet heroes-from local first responders to a superhero, We'll also read The Paper Bag Princess. The morning includes crafts, meet and greets with our heroes, and more. Participants are invited to dress up as a princess, prince, dragon, or hero (real or super).

LEGO Build: Dragon

Are you brave enough to stand up to a dragon? In The Paper Bag Princess, Elizabeth rescues herself and stands up to the dragon Before we can stand up to the dragon, we’ll need to build one! We'll work together using the LEGO Build app to complete a dragon and talk about what it means to be your own hero and stand up to the dragons in our lives.

Storytime

Toddler Storytime at 10:30 am

Kids can waddle, toddle and wiggle during Toddler Time for ages 1-3. The 30-minute program includes a read-together book, lap bounces, music, and movement with shaker eggs and scarves, and concludes with the bubble dance. Each family is provided a copy of the featured Read Together book to share during the program.

Lapsit Storytime at 9:30 am

This interactive program between children and their caregivers features ageappropriate activities for ages birth to 15 months. The 30-minute program includes a read-together book, lap bounces, music, and movement with shaker eggs and scarves, and concludes with the bubble dance. Each family is provided a copy of the featured Read Together book to share during the program.

Preschool Storytime at 10:30 am

Preschool Storytime features early literacy activities for ages 3-5 including a picture book read aloud, music and movement, and a hands-on activity including STEM and art projects.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program designed to introduce literacy skills to children before they start kindergarten. The program provides a way to strengthen bonds, increases attention spans, develops speaking/speech patterns, and allows for a safe way to explore the world.

Families with children ages 0-5 are invited to sign-up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. Participants will receive a tote bag with goodies to begin the reading journey toward reading 1,000 books.

Art from the Heart

All ages are invited to join us in for a program just in time for Valentine’s Day! Author and illustrator Abriana Johnson will guide participants in painting a colorful heart based on the artwork of Alma Thomas. The featured read-aloud is Ablaze with Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas.

Celebrate Black American's role in aviation by making and testing several types of airplanes. We'll learn about aviation pioneers including the Tuskegee Airman and Bessie Coleman..

Snake: Lunar Year Celebration!

All ages are invited to celebrate the culture and traditions of Lunar New Year.

5pm-6pm Lantern Make and Take in the program room

5pm Storytime with Snakes Meet snakes from Sylvan Heights and listen to books about Lunar New Year!

5:30pm Animals of the Chinese Zodiac with Live Snakes Learn about snakes found in NC, the significance of animals of the Chinese zodiac, and Asian Culture with guest speakers Julia, Education Coordinator at Sylvan Heights Bird Park, Ken Tseng, teaching assistant professor at ECU

and Dr. John Tucker, Asian Studies Director at ECU.

Our neighbors at Farmville Pizza will be offering an in-store special of pizza by the slice starting at $2 for those who attend the program.

TCG Tournament and Card Swap

Fri, Feb 28 from 6pm-7:30pm

Players of all ages and experience levels are invited to Pokémon Night. We’ll have a presentation from Blue Ox Games on fair trading, how to spot fake cards, and tips on becoming a Pokémon Master. There will be a Pokémon TCG Tournament and a card swap. Cards will be provided for the tournament. Other activities include BINGO and Make Your Own Poké Ball.

Participants should bring their own cards to trade. Blue Ox staff will offer advice on trading but parents/caregivers will supervise their child’s trades. The staff of the library and Blue Ox are not responsible for anyone's cards or trades.

Volunteers are needed for the event. Contact Heather for details.

Classic Film Club

Monday, February 10 at 6:30pm

Our movie this month stars James Stewart as an 1890's cowboy. He and his pals, Jeb Webster and Walter Brennan, drive cattle from Wyoming to Alaska, where a corrupt sheriff steals their herd and they tangle with him to get it back.

Bring your own snacks and drinks with lids, and as always, feel free to bring your comfy chair along, too

Stitch’n Together

All adults are welcome to join us at our monthly Craft Night! We're learning how to make origami cranes and bookmarks in February. All craft enthusiasts are welcome!

The start of a new year is a perfect time to set yourself on a healthy lifestyle pathway This session will provide tips to help you start the year off right with healthy food, physical activity and attention to your overall well being. We will also discuss the importance of staying mindful in 2025 and being honest with yourself about what goals are realistic to achieve. Let’s make 2025 the year of positive changes!
