School board sees changes

On Dec. 9, out going Lunenburg School Board members Elizabeth Williams and Ada Whitehead were honored for their service with a reception before the meeting and received a standing ovation during the meeting. Williams has served for 20 years, representing Love’s Mill – District 5, and Whitehead has served for eight years, representing Rehoboth – District 4.

Also recognized were Ruby Ingram who was elected to represent Love’s Mill – District 5 and Melanie Currin was elected to represent Rehoboth – District 4

Educators participate in UVA research project

Staff members of the Teachers in the Movement Project interviewed teachers, who taught in Lunenburg County between the 1950s and the 1980s, at the Victoria Public Library in Victoria on Friday, Nov. 8.

Teachers in the Movement is a research project guided by University of Virginia Professor Dr. Derrick P. Alridge.

The teacher interviews included several questions: Who were

the teachers in the civil rights era? What, how, and why did these teachers teach?

How can recovering teachers’ stories inform teaching and school and impact teaching today?

The project website, teachersinthemovement.com, will serve as a repository hous-

ing the project’s oral histories and curricular materials that will be of significance for k-12 education and university students and teachers in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the United States and beyond.
