I got into hosting simply scrolling the internet for help. I didn?t understand my mood after the Marine Corps. I had broken shoulders and a broken heart leaving what I knew for 10 years was incredibly difficult mentally.

Yes, Local Veteran Owned & Operated is always my first step.It my way of networking with other Veterans who almost Always relate to the 22 to 0 cause. Sam?s Club, Jimmie Johns, Krispy Kreme, McDonald?s, Big Joes BBQ, Bio Plasma to name a few have sponsored and donated since 2015.

Covid changed every dynamic of the hike. The total amount of participants means more rules and regulations to abide by. We had a water and sanitation station at every single stop, and we utilize the empty parking lots for more wipes, mask, and gloves. This year the donations requested changes from snacks to hand sanitizer. Which was fine because Safety

is Paramount in my book. Although everyone was excited, we had to do it the safest way possible. This meant setting up screening temp areas and giving a masking to every single person at the park. A local veteran designer donated 250 mask towards the event. (At once designs)

e didn?t budge until everyone was screened and you had to have an initialed wrist band or you could cross over to the safe area. It was harder but the most well behaved crowd we had in five years What does the future hold for DWAY? More stability for Dway?s Event Planning.

Do you have other events planned for 2020?

We have a Silkies Community Clean Up in October that I?d like to see grow. It?s our community why not take pride in it?

Current working on a big event for the local young ladies of the community.

Graves, Sr. This past June, I had the honor of shadowing Onslow County?s first M.A.D.S. Summer Program created by owners of FTM Fashion Week (Final Touch Models), Lat oya Scot t (original founder) and partner Lat ash a Br ook s.

The program, Final Touch Performing Arts Studio, Inc. (finaltouchperformingartsstudio.org) is just one of the nonprofit (501c3) organizations Scott and Brooks established as a community-based organization. Fashion meets Philanthropy! Its mission is to encourage each individual to work in a creative, cooperative, and collaborative manner while promoting independent thinking. M.A.D.S. means Modeling, Acting, Dancing, and Sewing. What originally was a four week summer trial program (June 15 - July 10) was extended another week ending on July 17. The concept of M.A.D.S. is educationally sound.

Each week provided local guest celebrities, business owners, makeup artists, photographers, bloggers, hair stylists, award winning designers,

dance and Yoga instructors, parent volunteers, college interns, educators, marketing specialists, entrepreneurs, pillars from the community, and even a local and national Queen to come speak with the children to either showcase their skills and talents, teach them their craft, or to contribute to this vital community summer program. Each week brought new experiences and opportunities for the children to discover their talents within. Final Touch Models provides skills needed to succeed from Modeling, Personal Image Development (Branding), Professional Acting, Make-up Artistry, and Fashion. Here?s the weekly breakdown of activities: ¡Week #1 M odelin g- The first week the children were introduced to the World of Fashion, Fashion Magazines, and Modeling. Who better than to teach them than Latoya Scott herself! Known for wearing many businesses and community hats such as 2020 AFI Camp Lejeune Military Spouse of

the Year, than the founder of Final Touch Models, FTM Fashion Week NC now in its eighth season held in Jacksonville, NC, and FARBE Magazine?s Editor-in-Chief. This seasonal model and actress taught skills to help the children learn the basic runway techniques, poses, and commercial work. Why? The children will be incorporating everything learned into their graduation fashion show.

howed off her artistic talents to the children who were interested in becoming future MUA. The entire class was shown the process of creating a full face for clients (demonstrated on Scott and Collins-Windle for a professional photo-shoot) and were introduced to the basic tools MUAs need. (@Denelle.lunsford) I originally was invited to speak to the children about being an online blogger and a contributor writer for FARBE Magazine and stayed to support and write on the program.

Which brought me back each week throughout the week curious to talk to the children, guests, parents, and staff. This was a great group of children! ¡Week #2 Act in g- This week again had Scott and staff wearing many hats. Everything from basic Acting techniques including Improvisation, Public Speaking, Building Confidence

Techniques, Writing Original Scripts, Sound Checks, Stage and Set, Production and Director roles. ¡Week #3 Dan cin gThis week the children were introduced to their dance routine by program instructor,Dian e Hear d. They proudly executed the routine at their graduation ceremony held on July 10 in front of family and friends. One morning was set aside for a Zumba class instructed

by M ich elle Collin s-Win dle. Local Yoga teacher at Infinite Yoga & Wellness, Ceramic Artist, and volunteer at Council for the Arts,Cat h r yn ?M s.

Cat ? Ak er m an , @cathryn.akerman taught two amazing days of ?kid yoga.? She introduced the children to exciting and fun basics of yoga through posing, relaxation, a mixture of body positivity, how to be kind to yourself and others, kid friendly affirmations, fun

breathing exercises with a mixture of distilled water and Lavender oil, and the use of a yoga bowl for sound meditation known as a Tibetan Meditation Singing Bowl. By the end of day two, the children were experts in the practice of using the Lavender

oil water mixture sprayed on their new fuzzy ?pom pom? to help control breathing and relax their minds towards the end of each class. They definitely loved listening to the serene sounds of the singing bowl. The last week of the program, the

children were treated to their own individual Lavender oil water mix in a spray bottle and enough rainbow ?pom poms? to continue practicing their fun breathing exercises at home.

Michelle Windle spent the entire week instructing the children on how to make their graduation performance and modeling outfits. Not only did she instruct, but she provided some of the sewing machines while the remainder were provided by Final Touch Performing Arts Studio. Watching the children really focus on designing and sewing their own masks, for the young men their bow-ties and cummerbunds, the young ladies their shirts and matching ballerina tutu skirts made out of tulle material. This really showed me and the parents the connection between sewing, creativity, and confidence. The two young men amongst the six young ladies really highlighted their discipline and focus. I believe they understood sewing from a mechanical hands on approach to creativity. ¡Week #5 You n g En t r epr en eu r ial Week This was a bonus week to allow the children to showcase their business knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit while providing an opportunity for them to earn money. With the help of Scott, Heard, Collins-Windle, and Nell Waller (a marketing intern), the children put together a business plan, was taught how to brand themselves, created business logos, promotions, marketing tips, customer service, how supply and demand works in correlation to their

product or services, and how to sell their product or services through being a vendor. All this was encompassed into one big (safe) vending event with promotion, table set up, product and services displayed, and family and friends coming in as actual consumers. Another exciting activity this week for the children was a surprise visit from Love Batts, CEO/Founder of L.O.V.E. (Locally Operated Venue & Events) (www.facebook.com/loveventblog), certified Hip Hop Yoga Instructor, and Montford Point Marine Assoc., Inc. Camp Lejeune Chapter 10 & Auxiliary?s local reigning Queen and Lifetime Member and Past National Montford Point Marine Assoc., Inc. Queen. Batts shared her family?s history connection to Montford Point, Camp Johnson, and her business knowledge with the children. She showed up in one of three crowns and her National Queen?s sash. If the name Batts ring a local bell it should. Her grandfather is the late Rev. Adner Batts who was an Original Montford Point Marine and who

served in ministry for over 50 years in the Onslow County community. Rev. Batts was among the hundreds of Original Montford Point Marines to be recognized and receive a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the United States Congress.

To learn more about the Montford Point Marines go to: www.montfordpointmarines.org Due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, the initial program could only allow eight students whose ages ranged from 5 years ? 13 years old. The cost was $75 per week, but scholarships are available to those parents or guardians who can show a financial need. The program operated Monday ? Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The children are fed a nice breakfast, daily lunch varieties, and a snack. This year ?s initial program was held at The Father ?s House Church (www.livinginhishouse.com) located at 217 Henderson Dr. and Pastored and Co-Pastored

Masks, washing hands, hand sanitizer stations, daily sanitation check lists, social distancing and temperature checks were adhered to when feasible. There were no outbreaks or any cases

of the virus reported as of the date of this article. This was an extremely safe and sanitized environment.

Seeing the children stay energetically motivated and listening to the parent?s praises and stories of how their child (ren) had blossomed and looked forward to returning back to the program daily was inspiration to my spirit. By the end of the program, it was the children who taught me how to truly enjoy life day by day.

This specialized program not only showed Scott and Brooks how vital a summer program in Onslow County such as M.A.D.S. is, but the

interest in surrounding communities grew. Due to popular demand, the program has been expanded from a four week program to a six week program. M.A.D.S. have been renamed to D.R.E.A.M.S. (President Brooks and Vice President Scott) which now includes ROI (Return on Investment) and Entrepreneurship and is slotted to be in four surrounding counties in 2021.

One of the key successes to the program was the definite support of the parents! One in particular, local business owner of Ally Bail Bonds (www.allybailbond.com) and momprenuer, Joselyn Edwards Hillmon, whose daughter and niece attended the program. Mrs. Hillmon made sure the children, staff, guests, and other parents were treated to weekly delicacies. I am pretty sure that is how I gained those extra pounds during those weeks. All jokes aside, Hillmon, treated the entire

graduating Class of 2020 and families to delicious cool treats at a local favorite, YoBre?z Frozen Dessert Bar, (www.yobrezfrozendessert.com) which is owned and operated by Breon Williams. Did you know they have a cool selfie station? This is definitely on my places to go list!

elcome to the first of many ?The Taste of ? segments. I am writing on Momma Africa.

Africa is a continent boosting 54 countries. The one country I have been intrigued by is Nigeria (the richest country in Africa). Through YouTube, Nollywood, and Instagram, I have been introduced to a whole new world of creating and developing ?human? connections. Familiarizing myself with African culture and being introduced to different languages.

These connections have developed into fans, followers, and pen pals.

The amazing part that has developed from a wonderfully talented few is genuine friendship.

Talented souls filled with extreme passion for their crafts. I would

introduce them to you by using such word groupings as: poetic geniuses, uber skilled and talented, colorful, energetic, cultured, well-traveled, resourceful, business minded, spiritual, sophisticated, humorists, a master at their craft, legendary, leaders in their field or industry, political, spiritual, forward thinkers, humbled, community service orientated, financially sound, meticulous, and extremely educated.

This is why I choose my Igbo Nigerian friend, Frederick Nnaemeka Leonard as the first person to interview for this segment.

Leonard is a solid fixture in the Nigerian film industry known as ?Nollywood?. The term was coined by New York Times journalist Norimitsu Onishi in 2002 after he observed a

spike in film-making activities in Lagos, Nigeria. Nollywood combines two of Nigeria?s film productions: The large pool of talented, funny, intelligent, and fashionable actors and actresses and the vast collection of thousands of movies that have been made. Really, Onishi observed a production environment that seemed impossible to grow and develop.

He coined the term, ?Nollywood? to mean ?nothing wood?, i.e. creating something out of nothing.

Nollywood developed and thrived and started reaching new audiences abroad. Prior to mass production of Nigerian movies, Africans and people of African descent had only been able to watch movies or videos produced by either Europeans or Americans. Nollywood makes it possible for Africans to view films made by fellow Africans on a huge global scale. As of 2018, Nollywood is now the second largest movie industry in the world in terms of the film volume output producing over 1,000 films per year. Surpassing Hollywood (the world?s oldest national film industry and biggest by revenue) and second only to India?s Bollywood.

Iroko TV, FilmHouse (app), YouTube, and ?Welcome to Nollywood? on Prime Video (Amazon.com). I discovered Nollywood four years ago on You Tube. One of the resurfacing main character leading male actors in majority of the movies that held my attention was: Frederick Leonard. I have eyes, yes! He?s exquisitely handsome and oozes a massive amount of confidence and caring charm. Leonard?s astute acting abilities and pin point interpretation of movie roles are remarkable and has helped him create his own niche in Nollywood. Going from supporting

roles to leading roles to writing roles. Gifted, skillful, creative, intelligent, and talented, his connection to the characters he portrays is crystal clear.

He was the first Nollywood actor I was fascinated with and to follow on Instagram.

I was impressed with his humbleness and his daily socialization with his followers. Down to Earth. Political. Intuitive.

Intelligent. Sarcastic.

Real. Raw. Protective Personality. Cleverly funny. Yes, he has a beautiful smirk and

smile. Dreamy brown eyes and his tongue commands his words as his charm commands your full attention. The sexiest thing to me about him is his brain!

I started to feel there was more ?substance? to my new favorite male Nollywood actor. Being a Legal Research Paralegal, I found myself more and more intrigued. The basic research produced the normal outcome.

Legendary Award Winning Influential Actor. Movie Producer.

Popular TV Personality.

The first born son to Mr. Ositadinma Leonard and Mrs. Josephine Ogochukwu Leonard. Younger sister. From Anambra State in the south eastern part of Nigeria.

Leonard attended Kaduna State Polytechnic and graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Biochemistry. Wait a minute!

Biochemistry? There?s that intelligent sexy brain. He started his acting career in 2001 and featured in minor

characters. After which he went back to school to complete his education and to pursue modeling. After completing his tertiary education, in 2008, he made a comeback to Nollywood.

The Nigerian blockbuster movie, ?Indian Doctor ? propelled him into the spotlight. Over the years, I have transitioned from a fan, to a follower, to a friend. One major consistency in his life is he is a very cautious private man.

Just like Nollywood, Leonard has thrived to become Nigeria?s most famous and influential professional actors. His passions for the Arts and belief in impacting society at large has led him to launch his own audio-visual movie production company in 2017: Cineworx Entertainment.

With the movie, Grey (a romantic comedy), Leonard starred in the movie and made his debut as a film producer (CEO of Cineworx Entertainment). Grey was released in late 2018 to an astounding success followed with another successful movie, Void.

Void (a thrilling love story) was his second movie as a producer.

Not only did he do the casting, he co-wrote several songs off the soundtrack. Did I mention that

he is also a big tease and a self-mastered public relations expert?

With over a decade in the modeling industry securely cemented, he became the first brand Ambassador of Diamond Ark Lifestyle in May 2018.

Leonard is internationally known for his fashion tastes! Tastes cultivated by his mother from a young age. He is fine and sophisticated in designer brands or in non-brands because of his confidence. He firmly believes in the growth of the African Cinema, not just because of its undeniable ability to contribute to the growth of Nigeria, but believes in its strong medium through which Nigerians can tell their stories, inform and market the culture and value as Africans to the world.

As an actor, model, film producer, Leonard delivers! What will you receive if you follow him daily on his social media forums?

Encouragement. Laughs. His beliefs on different subject matters. Shoot from the hip life, relationship, and political advice.

It is through his daily interactions with his followers (over 1.4 million on the ?gram?) will you truly see the ?substance? I

mentioned earlier. Every now and then, you will see his ?gracious heart and spirit? come forth with practical encouragements like: 路I?m the songwriter. I decide when to change the lyrics. 路I?m a man who worked hard to develop the TALENT given to him

by God. 路I believe in myself and the goodness of others. 路Hold forth, stay focused, and remain consistent. Caring and encouraging words from his late beautiful and loving mother.

Great words from Mrs. Leonard to encourage all of us even now as we continue to reshape our ?new normal? under a pandemic.

What are some of the things Leonard looks for in a lovable soul mate or life partner, i.e. a wife? A woman who understands family values, what keeps partners in a marriage, what makes a relationship work besides love, a woman who life is patterned after his. A woman who is willing to work daily towards the relationship through love, affection, humility, bonding, understanding, tolerance, and compromise. She values her husband.

Believe it or not, this bachelor is a focused devoted man to his career, forging ahead in Nollywood. How does he unwind or relax? He mainly stay indoors.

Not the party type. He doesn?t fancy drinking or smoking. He stays in touch with a very small circle of family, church family, and friends. For Leonard, filming is tediously very stressful, but views it as extremely rewarding and fun.

Due to Covid-19, the fashion industry has been faced with a lot of challenges. Many major brands have lost a lot of money because of consumers being laid off from their jobs and having to funnel their funds to necessities. According to BBC, clothing sales plummeted by 34 % back in March of 2020. However, this pandemic opened doors for the fashion industry to get creative. The fashion industry is diving deeper into the digital world! For some, fashion weeks are now virtual! Companies like HFW?s Digital Village have digital only collections. This allows their customers to pre order garments or purchase limited edition garments after the show. For Paris, London and Milan Fashion Weeks decided to continue on with physical shows this year. FTM Fashion Week is also continue this year too. Of course, there are safety measures that will be taken. All guests will be 6 feet apart and masks are required. By taking this precaution, it decreases the amount of tickets being sold this year. Hand sanitizers will be readily available throughout the venue. Founder Latoya Scott is overjoyed with this years?ground work and is looking forward to another successful fashion week.
