For the last 7 years, the undead have been walking through Basel’s little lanes and streets on an October evening on Halloween. These include young people, adults and families from all over Switzerland and from bordering Germany / France. Together they share the fun of creative dressing up and experience in the group the scary feeling for Halloween.

Swiss Domino Effect

For the first time ever, we welcome the two guys from the Swiss Domino Effect at FANTASY BASEL – The Swiss Comic Con. Their dominoes have already fallen at the Eurovision Song Contest, the biggest Swiss talents and other big projects like the dot.swiss campaign. This year in Basel they will build up a chain reaction of around 30,000 dominoes over the course of three days and in the end bring everything down.

Ian Beattie became known worldwide for his role as King of the Kings Meryn Trant in the hit series Game of Thrones where he played the role of the cruel knight between 2011 and 2015. The Belfast-born actor has also starred in TV series such as The Tudors, Number 2s, Vikings and the awardwinning series Line of Duty, while his big screen credits include Oliver Stone’s epic «Alexander» and the critically-acclaimed prison drama Starred Up.

Toby Sebastian

The native Englishman Toby Sebastian played in Game of Thrones the prince and eldest son of the heir of Prince Doran Martell. Since the death of his character Sebastian is involved in various film productions worldwide and will soon be back on screens.

The Swiss actress Carla Juri is predicted a great career. The two-time winner of the Swiss Film Award played an important role in Blade Runner 2049. At FANTASY BASEL - The Swiss Comic Con, Juri will be talking about what it’s like at a blockbuster filmset and her experiences in working with stars like Ryan Gosling and director Denis Villeneuve. Royd Tolkien

Royd Tolkien is coming to Basel and will give us insights into Tolkien’s world, present his latest projects and answer fans’ questions. The Englishman grew up in the middle of the Tolkien clan and knows not only the works of his great - grandfather inside out, but also the appropriate anecdotes and stories about them.

Netflix recently revealed that Jim Henson and Frank Oz’s seminal 1982 film The Dark Crystal is being remade as a TV series.

Actor and stuntman Kiran Shah embodied the main character in the original movie and worked closely with Jim Henson and Frank Oz. At FANTASY BASEL - The Swiss Comic Con he will be holding a special Dark Crystal panel in connection with an exhibition dedicated to the Dark Crystal Universe and will be signing autographs.

Tom Wilton

The Englishman Tom Wilton has thrilled us by creating perfect looking creatures in many blockbusters. His last job was big in every sense of the word: In Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Tom breathed life into the dinosaurs and «taught» them all the right moves. Wilton will be on site on Saturday and gives us an insight into his work at movie sets.

John Howe John Howe is considered one of the most influential illustrators of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Among other things, the Canadian has created many illustrations for Tolkien’s Middle-earth. As concept artist, much of what you see in the two film trilogies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, comes from his pen. His distinctive style of Fantastic Realism is known worldwide and immortalized in many books.

At FANTASY BASEL – The Swiss Comic Con 2018 John Howe will be on site on all three days, signing books for his fans and talking about his life and work on world famous projects. In addition, the Canadian will give an exclusive workshop for selected illustrators on all three days!

Brian Ian Muir has been working in the film industry for over 48 years and is one of the most respected sculptors and artists.

BRAINFART is not just their name; it’s their credo as well. They love to present their neural flatulence on paper, screen or in the sticker magazine and stand by their Zurich roots and influences.

TamaishiDesign

The Hungarian Barbara Németh studies graphic design and lives in Budapest. Manga has always been her favorite style. In 2010 she opened the small shop «TamaishiDesign» together with some friends, where you can find bags, T-shirts, stickers and buttons in this style.

Since the discovery of the first exoplanet around a sun-like star in 1995, the number of known planets outside our solar system has grown to over 3000 today. Could life possibly exist on such an exoplanet? Are there planets orbiting 2 stars? How is it possible to discover planets orbiting around another star? Where does science end, where does fiction begin? The scientists of PlanetS will be present at FANTASY BASEL - The Swiss Comic Con on all 3 days and answer such questions. In addition, they will explore a cutaway model of the CHEOPS telescope. CHEOPS is the first ESA mission to be entirely planned and conducted under Swiss management. The NCCR-PlanetS is a project of the Universities of Bern, Geneva and Zurich, as well as the ETHZ and EPFL. PlanetS is financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
