Innovative Learning at Hilliard City Schools

The Hilliard Learning Hub offers students unique learning opportunities in a multidisciplinary setting.

To expand their Innovation Campus, Hilliard City Schools collaborated with Fanning Howey to transform a former elementary school into a project-based learning environment for grades 6-12.

The cost-conscious approach renovated the entire building for less than $1.5 million without moving a single wall.

The design of the space provides a flexible and collaborative environment for diverse learning objectives, and integrated technology supports the district’s focus on preparing for the future.

A Cost-Concious Approach to Transformation

AFTER

Working with a small budget, Fanning Howey’s interior designers focused on strategic improvements to support project-based learning. The addition of flexible furniture allows students to rearrange their spaces to meet the day-to-day needs. The design converts several areas to support additional collaboration space. A former cafeteria stage is now small group seating. A former classroom is now a digital media lab. And a traditional media center is now a large innovation zone.

Collaboration with students resulted in a series of dramatic murals throughout the central corridor. The murals express the culture and mindset of the Hilliard Innovative Learning Hub.
