To bridge the gap between education and the built environment, Fanning Howey developed an exclusive relationship with the visioning and professional development firm, Partners for Authentic Learning and Leadership.
Partnerships for Authentic Learning and Leadership is a non-profit organization founded by educational leaders who envision schools where learning is irresistible. They help make this possible through authentic learning strategies such as service-learning which enhance academic achievement, social-emotional learning, civic engagement, career development and student empowerment.
As part of Fanning Howey’s planning and design process, Partnerships provides the following services:
• Review and analyze student and campus data and stakeholder input to identify trends and opportunities for design planning
• Assist with visioning sessions to identify how educational goals should inform design strategies;
• Engage with clients to discern their curricular intentions and illustrate the functionality of facility designs in relation to their programs;
• Create visioning, leadership, and instructional plans to support the pedagogical desires of a client, helping to increase the likelihood that a new learning facility will be used as originally intended.
Executive Director of Partnerships for Learning, Emmy Beeson is a former school superintendent and Career-Technical center director.

Cyprus High School
Magna, UT
Design of the new Skyline High School and Cyprus High School is redefining the district's approach to high school education.
Early visioning and planning sessions involved District administrators, as well as leaders and faculty from both schools, to build a common vision. Over the course of several months, Fanning Howey and local architecture firm Naylor Wentworth Lund created a program centered around Granite's central vision of flexibility, while allowing for customization at each site.
The design allows Granite to continue its departmental approach to high school education, but with an emphasis on next generation learning. In a break from the district's traditional double-loaded corridor schools, the design creates flexible, open space at the center of each learning community. The design increases the visibility of the school's media program by positioning it next to a study café, directly on the public square of the building.
