Summer time at our Children's Centres Children's centres provide a valuable range of advice and support for parents and carers. Their services are available to you from pregnancy and until your child goes into reception class at primary school. Children’s centres are the focus for many support agencies, from health visitors providing baby clinics to job centre representatives. You can get professional advice on health and family matters, learn about training and job opportunities or just socialise with other people. Your child can make friends there and learn as they play. Children’s centres all respond to the needs of the local community; each one is not necessarily the same. Some operate in groups, or ‘clusters’ with a main centre plus outreach venues, often in more rural areas. Some centres will offer additional services, such as a ‘stop smoking’ clinic or help for parents of children with learning difficulties or disabilities. Many of the services are free; a small voluntary donation may be requested for some activities. Call to find out more about what’s on at your local children’s centres this school summer holiday. Many of the main centres are open all day as usual, many with special days planned for the summer holiday period. Others might have reduced opening hours or just specific sessions available. A summer message from the team at Dovers Green We are open all year round, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm and our regular activities will continue through the schools summer holidays. We are busy with ‘School Readiness’ activities for our children starting school in September, as encouraging your child to be as independent as possible will really help them get off to a great start in Reception! We are currently planning a two-hour First Aid course with the Red Cross for children aged 7+yrs. This will be a basic ‘first response’ training, teaching children what to do in a medical emergency. We are also looking to hold a couple of ‘Picnic in the Park’ play sessions during August, held locally in Woodhatch and Reigate. All our courses resume in September, including Post Natal and Parenting Puzzle.
