01CYBERWALK SHOPPING COMPLEX CHANDIGARH, INDIA

Among my design projects was a design proposal for Shopping Mall/ Commercial Complex.

The project focuses on reviving the current depriciating structure of commercial centres, shopping malls due to the online shift of retail structure worldwide.

The main idea behind the project was to attract consumers by creating Pseudo-Public centric spaces within the shopping complex with a vision 20 years ahead in time adding the indulgence of revolutionizing technology and emphasizing the space as a “Socialeisure” for the community.

The access to the site has been taken from the main highway by bifurcating the route through the 18.2m wide service lane, where the traffic gets refined and segregated from the main arterial road.

Zoning of the site is done in a way that the commercially zoned periphery (NW) is shared by the Office Building, where the access is taken through the road running along the NW periphery.

The main Shopping Complex is zoned in the middle of the site between both Office and Hotel Building, firstly to segregate the traffic going to the hotel building, and also giving the shopping complex an easy access from the Office building and facing the shopping complex towards the main arterial road would attract the heavy flow of consumers.

The site has three access roads running along the peripheries, access from the nothern periphery has been chosen according to the norms stating, the site cannot have a direct access from the main sub-arterial road, hence the 60 feet wide road is used for access, which also serves better. A single 40 feet wide road has been run along the site with an access to all the residential units, this approach increases feasibility and ease in access leading to a single entry and exit point.
